Mason Greenwood

A lot of talk about keeping him away from the toxicity of the first team which I can understand; however, surely our ultimate goal is improving the first team and this guy could provide the spark and energy we've been sorely missing! Greenwood, Rashford and Lingard/ Martial could be a great interchangeable front three!

There is certainly a spot for him cutting in off the right flank!

Is he as promising as Ravel?

Very different players! I doubt there will ever be a player as technically gifted and with as much flair as Ravel had, although he also had major flaws (strength and obviously temprement) which meant he couldn't transfer it to the seniors! Mason looks to be a polite/ hardworking boy if reports are to be believed and already has a mans physique. I love how direct he is; always on the front foot!

I'm suspecting he is the most deadly since Rossi and pre injury Will Keane

If you look at his goalscoringstats - he is much better than Rossi (but Rossi had a lot of assists). I can't remember exactly the numbers but I do seem to recall that the 2 best strikers in terms of goals at youth/reserve-Level over the last 20 years were actually Frazier Campbell and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake who both scored a lot. But this is based on my memory rather than definitive proof. But I think they were the best

My plan for this season:

Sack Jose now and appoint Carrick/McKenna as caretaker managers until end of season

And play Rashford, Greenwood and Martial as our attacking three.

Why not.

My mate who’s a Chelsea fan got a warning earlier “watch out for the lad Greenwood” oh he knows about him now :D

The kid is absolute dynamite. The best youth team player I ever remember seeing for united so far. His consistency for his age is staggering.

When Greenwood had the ball 30 yards from goal prior to the 4th goal - I almost celebrated before the took the Chelsea-player on. You just know it is gonna be a goal

Iirc Wilson had excellent record in that u18 season where he dominated as well. Scored 5 goals once against Newcastle.

But got injured somewhere again. Had about goal a game ratio ratio though.

I believe so too

Surely we should be able to get him a decent loan in January? He needs consistent games against proper defences and not just the odd game here. Give him half a season away to see how he copes

I can just imagine him being put into a team with other second stringers, but put on the right side of midfield, then taken off at 45 minutes and us being told 'he didnt work or take his chance'.

Very exciting prospect but no need to rush him into the first team. He needs to be given a chance to come in as a sub when we have the right manager and the team is in good spirits. He should be nowhere near the first team at the moment, the negativity will ruin him. Just let him keep on flourishing in the youth team banging in goals left right and centre and he will be given his chance.

This perfect scenario thing is likely mythical. United is a high pressure club. If you want to wait until the next time we are in City’s position to play him then just sell him now. Besides, he works for us anyway, not as much the other way round. He should play when he’s ready to help the team, be that now or next year.

It's got to the point where if he gets a chance and doesn't score i'm a bit disappointed. That shouldn't be possible with a 17 year old

I pray he stays clear of injury. Im still kinda hurt broke over Will Keane and Rossi's careers

And more recently, James Wilson. I remember Wilson was putting in these type of goal scoring performances regularly and completely faded away soon after. He scored 4 goals against City youths after an incredible season and the hype train was in full flow.

Excellent stats given he is 19.

How good was his goal scoring last year?
He's 17.

For context, he was born after 9/11. He almost certainly doesn't remember Beckham playing for United, likely neither for Real

Rossi's goalscoring record was better than anyone we have had in last 20+ years.

He played two seasons in our juniors/reserves and scored over 30 goals in each season. Blake, Campbell, Keane and others come nowhere near that number.

How long does the youth season run until? Looks like Greenwood is well on his way to 30 goals.

In terms of what he did on the pitch...Morrison was incredibly strong on the ball and his temperament was fine. In fact, for a pretty skinny lad opponents found it very hard to knock him off the ball.

He worked really hard whilst playing and was definitely a team player.

Off the pitch was obviously a different issue temperament wise.

If he does it this season and then next season in the Reserves then he will be in the Rossi category in terms of output.

Rossi was elevated into the Reserves much quicker though.

Greenwood has all the capability to surpass Rossi's record...but going back in time, loads of young strikers were scoring 40+ goals a s season as the norm.

Dont promote him yet.. Let him play with the u18s this season and then maybe promote him next season by offering him occasional games in carabao cup and stuff (with a more friendly and motivational manager).

the worst things possible to happen right now are to him get a tragic injury at such a young age (hes 17...) or have his confidence killed by Jose mourinho. The latter which is extremely likely

We have struggled with strikers (or more than one) for years now.

No idea why.

The reserve side Rossi played in was the best post Co92? Didn't it have Pique, Evans, Gibson, Welbeck IIRC and they won every competition they entered one year. Rossi was an big part of that of course. That said, I believe Rossi wasn't far off being an elite professional if his career hadn't been blighted by serious injuries.

I stand corrected - my mind was apparently wrong...but I am still pretty certain that both Campbell and Blake were high in the 20s

The lad was endorsed by Messi himself as a star of the future. It's a pity what injury has done to our best recent youth forwards
