Mason Greenwood | Officially a Marseille player

It’s not nonsense though? It’s something that is completely overlooked. I’ve seen the hatred already all over social media and on her friends accounts, this is a snippet of what would happen if he was sold and was successful at a big club elsewhere. It would be never ending every time he played well.

That should not be a factor in whether the club brings him back.

And here is actually one of the things that is incredibly grating about this. United is a football club. It shouldn't and doesn't have to make decisions based on harassment the wife of an employee could face at the hands of social media eejits. And it definitely shouldn't have to make decisions based on the failings of the court system. "Oh, the courts and police didn't do our job so we have to overcompensate to send a message that DV is serious" no one needs that from the club

It should be left to focus on football and make the Mason Greenwood decision based on the following: what can we do here that maximizes our chances of success on the pitch (either using him, or selling him for a high profit that we can re-invest or can use for FFP)... The idea of the board giving a feck about anything else is why we're behind the pack.

Having a separate conversation about Greenwood and football strictly (as was attempted in the other thread that was closed due to an, um, episode of sorts) reflects poorly on the forum or United
This is what I don't understand. We aren't discussing a nomination for Man of the Year; it's football. The idea that a footballer's transgressions must always be brought up in the context of his footballing ability is looney tunes. It's about crafting a specific narrative, not morality.

Personally, I don't care that much if he comes back or not, but I do have a curiosity about how his footballing career turns out because of how talented he was/is.

The anti-Greenwood censoring in this thread from mods means it's not representative at all of the real opinion on him coming back. From my conversations with people in real life they haven't been keepng up with it much and change their opinions on him completely once they find out he's back with his missus and has a baby with her. It's funny the loudest voices in this thread think they know what is better for his partner than the people themselves or their families (who have the full context ).

It is looney tunes.

It also (partly) explains why discussion on the matter concerning a player still under contract with Manchester United was banned from this supposedly Manchester United forum for what, more than a year?

But it's a private forum and we're little more than passengers. So it is what it is

What's funny about that? My understanding is that the forum had to cease talk about Greenwood while the case/investigation was ongoing otherwise there were legal implications.

You are more than welcome to talk about his performances. Just as others are more than welcome to talk about why they don't want to see him at the club anymore.

I've come to terms with it. It's just bizarre seeing the foaming at the mouth towards people who a) don't want to tar and feather Greenwood b) want him back and/or c) are interested in how he kicks on from this.

There is very little censoring in this thread, barring the odd egregious or libellous post that is deleted.

Challenging and disagreeing with are very different to censoring.

Those two things aren't related.

Person A: "He looks like he's improved his passing and off-ball movement."
Person B: "Who cares, he's a rapist."

Sorry to break it to you but that's a recipe for constant derailment and trolling. Unless the goal is to attach that particular narrative in every mention of Greenwood is serves no purpose.

Why do you care though? Just ignore posters who irritate you. Problem solved.

I simply explained why I find the reactions bizarre and don't understand the coupling of two unrelating things. No mentions of caring or being irritated.
Ah ok. Well for many fans of the club, what Greenwood allegedly did off the pitch and being forced to support him if he returns can't really be uncoupled, so that would be your answer. Football support and being a fan is an emotive experience so for many, turning that on and off is not realistic.

That's the thing. Curiosity about how his career develops isn't supporting him and has nothing to do with what he allegedly did.

No, even after the case was closed.

And discussion of the issue occurred after the case was closed elsewhere on the Internet. I am not aware of a single site getting into trouble over discussions getting out of hand.

But if you think certain parts of the discussion make the site "look bad" then it makes sense.

Many thousands of angry incel fans, 100%. The type of person to send a death threat because of a string of bad performances.

They should not be a factor in the club's decision making. I'd be furious if the club cited that as a reason for bringing him back, like we're doomed until everyone with decision making power is ejected from the club (through a cannon)

I believe the owner or admin received a warning from the Greenwood legal team while the case was ongoing and the discussion was live on this website (i may be recalling incorrectly though), so i don't blame them for being overly-cautious. I don't think the decision-making was based on how the site looked - that it was a bad look was an observation by some of the posters in this thread and others, not by the admin team.

To be fair, when Greenwood was sent on loan ay the start of the season, discussion opened back up.

Not that I’d be a fan of him coming back, but can he in theory be recalled this month?

If the INEOS boys are harbouring any thoughts of bringing Greenwood back into the team, this January could be the time. Do it now, they can apportion blame to the Glazers who won’t give two shits what people think. Do it in the summer, Sir Jim & Co get it in the neck.

Just a thought. Still fecks me off how good he was shaping up to be for us and now we are lumbered with Ol’ One Peg stinking out the right flank.

It was a mod who made that observation.

But yes that's also a possibility, that there was a warning from the legal team that prompted the forum to shut down all conversation. Crazy they bypassed Twitter and Reddit though.

Surely this window is time to cash in. Get him sold while teams are desperate and use his transfer fee to improve our squad.

arsenal could be in for him. partey is rumoured to be off, so they may have some kind of quota that they need to fill.

There was no contact. Debate was simply paused during the legal case as a precautionary measure to conform with UK traditions of not discussing ongoing cases in public.

That obviously doesn't always work given that the internet is international and those on it routinely communicate across borders, but to play it on the safe side, we paused debate and then reopened it once the club made a statement about his future.

So, by that logic Everton were wrong to get shot of Sigurdson (or whatever his name was) for having child porn on his computer. Looney tunes

The owner took the very clear decision to shut down all talk. We decided to relax it later.
@Raoul said it better

It sounds like a decision based off of anything outside of football related matters will rub you up the wrong way. It’s just completely unrealistic at this stage. He’d be back tomorrow if that was the case.

and both can be true. There likely are a lot of fans that don't want him back and a lot of fans that wouldn't mind him back. Probably also a lot of fans who will accept whatever the club's decision is. I think trying to frame the narrative to suggest that the majority of United fans wouldn't accept him back is disingenuous, just as proposing the oppposite would be. Redcafe's own polls suggested it wasnt as clear cut as some would try and make it out to be.

We did a poll a while back and it was basically 50/50 - that was before he started playing again so I would suspect it would narrowly move to a few more wanting him back based on seeing him in action again.

What’s best for her has to be a priority in my eyes.

Bizarre logic. You can’t make footballing decisions or any decisions for that matter just because it might make some losers angry. That way they win.

"Take Greenwood back or else his "fans" will hurt his wife" is not a very convincing argument in advocating for bringing him, and his "fans", to the club.

The last thing a club in our state needs is accounting for non football matters in making football making decisions.

The one thing that this thread has thought me, and reading all the posts on social media with regards to Joey Barton and his opinions on women, is that I'm shocked at the amount of men out there who really don't give a shite about women, that they will find any excuse to defend the man in situations like this one with Greenwood. I mean is there really that many men out there that hate women that much?

Going by Barton’s social media it would seem so

Yeh that's what I mean, I was shocked by the amount of support he's getting for his ridiculous views, didn't think there was that many of that opinion out there.
It’s depressing that the world is regressing in its views and actions. Too many angry people out there
