If Martial is injured, Greenwood shall start as a 9 against the Saints

Nah, not seeing it.

It'll be Rashy up top, with JLingz, Pereira and James behind him. But Greenwood will be in the fray by 60-70mins probably in place of the aforementioned JLingz.

Mason joined United at the age of 6, and has been practicing seriously for 12 years now. Now, it is his time.

Don't think he'll start.

It'll be James, Rashford and Lingard front 3 with Mata at 10.

I think that will be the front 3 but with Pereira not Mata because we will want more in midfield away from home.

From Rooney, Tevez & Ronaldo to James, Rashford & Lingard...

I don't want to live in this world.

Please don't call him JLingz. He hasn't earned a nickname.

Southampton 1:1 Man Utd
Just start him... Pereira has had his chance and has been terrible. Lingard has had multiple chances and wasted them all.

Greenwood atleast had a decent shot on goal today.. just start him, nothing to lose. If people complain how a 17 year old wont be deciding games it just shows how stupid they are and since Pereira or Lingard wont decide games either it makes no difference anyway.

I’d drop Rashford too once martial is back.

James ——Martial ——-Greenwood

Give feckin Gomes a chance in that 10 role.

Management of this lad is baffling. Ole talks, talks and talks him up, then keeps shunting him wide with a only few minutes to do anything.

It’s not baffling at all, we’re 4 games into the season, he’s 17 and it’s his first season in the first team. It’s the sensible approach.

It works both ways though. When you sell off the rest of your attacking numbers, you elevate players like Greenwood from simply young talents, to actual genuine first team squad players.

It’s not like fans are angry youngsters aren’t playing, it’s that the players ahead of them aren’t playing well. Combine this with the simple fact these youngsters are literally the only other options, you can kind of see why the sensible approach may not fit.

Greenwood showed more in 10 minutes than Lingard in 4 games. It’s quite telling actually - for everyone except our manager

He is a first team player though, he’s been on the bench in each game up to now.

All I’m saying is, it’s 4 games in and he’s never played at the level and in front of so many people, it’s daunting and he needs to be eased in. I can guarantee he will play during the season, but it appears as though Ole isn’t rushing him in, which is sensible.

The curler he got off was one of the few positives of today's game at Southampton. I'd be tempted to start him centrally if Rashford's poor form continues. It sounds stupid but, hey, didn't Michael Owen get started at 17? Given we've gone through full Liverpoolisation we may as well try it!

shouldve started centrally. Shifting around the front 3 didnt work. Rashford is prob our 3rd best CF right now. Keep him on the left.

looked sharp when he came on

surely moving ahead of Pereira and Lingard to start on the right sooner or later

He is an obvious talent but clearly nowhere near ready to start in the PL, which was a given considering his age.

Should never have been relied upon as a top rotational option because he will be under immense pressure to perform and score goals despite never having done so at the top level before.

Absolutely mad to gamble on him being another Rooney but hopefully his confidence isn't shattered by playing in all these shite games and team.

Should play ahead of anybody else on the right side, in possibly a 433 formation. 4231 doesnt suit us when our number 10 options are so bad.

Impressive cameo. Should have started, but Ole is a coward.

for not starting a 17 year old?

What a moronic post, if he started him and not played well then I wouldn't be surprised if you posted calling Ole naive for playing a 17 year old.

Not that moronic from the poster when you consider how highly Ole has praised him, and how Ole name dropped him frequently when the press questioned whether its smart shipping Lukaku and not finding a replacement.

If Greenwood wasn't so hyped by his own manager I dont think anyone would have cared if he started or not. But it looks his omission was still some sort of surprise when the team sheet came out and he wasn't brought on until the last segment of the game.

Whats wrong with praising a player? A 17 year old gets mins under his belt (with these type of cameos) and could potentially start games in EL, Cup games and potentially prem games as he becomes accustomed to this league.

He's not just praising a player. He's literally gone out and pointed to Greenwood as a player who will contribute to the goals we will miss by shipping Lukaku. Sure martial and Rashford too but the change this season is Lukaku out and Greenwood in. Thats more than just praise. That's banking on a 17 year old, which can be well justified or appear moronic (to use your own word).

Now when he name drops Greenwood (again) in the pre match presser as the man to step up and with Martial out, and then goes on not to start him, reducing him to a 13 minute cameo, you can understand some fan discontent. Either don't mention him every time you're quizzed for goals and let him play in without pressure, or play him more when you clearly need goals. He just looked confused, and it's not like playing Greenwood would have been a bigger risk than playing Pereira, who has been a consistent let down for over a year.

So he's basically praising a 17 year old? once again whats wrong with that?.....He's replaced lukaku, it doesn't mean he'll play from the go when you have Rashford as a striker even when Martial is injured.

Are you really comparing a player who has played in prem before plus in spain vs a 17 year old? Some really think this is like fifa as young players won't feel the physicality of it.
