Martin Ødegaard | Arsenal player

Was really very average yesterday - looked like he was carrying a knock.

Hes been quality for Arsenal and his form combined with the arrival of Jesus has been a massive part of their great form this season.

I honestly didn't think Jesus was a good buy or that he would do much at Arsenal based on his City form but hes been a very shrewd signing. Think he would have done really well at United as well. Him and Martial as our CF options would have been great.

A lot of plaudits for Jesus but I thought he was far more dangerous for Arsenal and them scoring looked likely through him.
Wouldn’t mind us signing him in the future as a replacement for Eriksen. He would be a good fit in an Erik Ten Hag side.

I might even prefer him to De Jong since he’s Premier League proven already. Dubai needs to get their cheque books out next season…

Didn’t think he was that good to be honest. Fluffed a chance which almost hit the corner flag and was lazy in tracking Eriksen (his man) which allowed him to get pockets of space to influence the game when we got the ball.

I thought he was really good yesterday. Really like him a lot. We need someone like him in our team to be honest but not sure how likely will that be.

I hate to compare but I wish we had a No.10/ advanced No.8 of his type in our team. Knits the play for Arsenal so well.

It would be nonsense if Norway with players like Odegaard or Haaland don't start at least qualifying for the next Euros, but even 16 spots being available for UEFA teams for 2026 WC it's not as if they have worse players than Iceland had in 2016 or 2018 isn't it?

By the way Odegaard is reaching the level it was expected when he was younger, people jumped off to wrong conclusions based on not making it at Real Madrid.

Very good to watch. His playmaking abilities are amongst the best in the league, especially his short range game. Top player!

He’s pretty good but think you guys overhype him slightly. Can still go missing on occasion but credit due he turned up today.

Yeah, he's been class this season. That said, that assist to Saka ... not intentional, right?

really impressed by his pass selection and positioning the whole game. He's what we hoped Bruno would be for us

Just a talented, talented footballer. One of those gifted footballers when they play with a picture in their head and know exactly what to do with the ball even before they receive it.

Best I've seen him play. Pretty much won Arsenal that game by himself

Doesn't often lose possession from what I can observe. This is crucial to the midfield. Contrast it with Bruno who is likely the higher rated player (age exp) but when it comes to tactical influence and balance of play Odegaard is fundamentally sound to a team that maintains possession like Arsenal.

I understand the rivalry between Arsenal and United and while many will be biased Arteta really has done things the right way. All these young players coming through and the quality of football. It's a great time I'd imagine to be a season ticket holder and a fan of the club after the years of mediocrity.

2 players don't make a team.

Also it depends what group Norway get, it's not like they have 11 top players to easily beat other medium teams.

They have more than 2 players. No excuses for not making a 24 team Euros at least.

Two players should sort that out for us? It’s not as if we managed to qualify when we had Hangeland, Riise, Carew, Pedersen, etc. Those two are a cut above but they can’t do it alone.

Also, Ødegaard has largely been underwhelming for Norway. Not a liability, but he’s rarely stood out either.

Norway doesn't have only 2 good players, isn't it? You can say they don't have 2 players of this level, but come on, are you saying to me 2016 or 2018 Iceland NT had more quality than Norway?

Football doesn’t work that way, though. Otherwise Greece should have had no chance at winning the Euros.

I’m not saying we have no chance. I’m just saying that Ødegaard and Haaland are no guarantee.

We also tend to have shit luck. Playoffs for 2004 gave us Spain. Ahead of 2006 we got Czech Republic, and as a bonus Nedved decided to come out of retirement. If that kind of shit doesn’t happen we get Thomas Myhre forgetting how to goalkeep and conceding two :wenger: goals to throw away a lead that makes us favourites to go through.

Hell, this qualifier we looked solid. Beat Sweden twice, Serbia away from home… get match ball against Serbia at home and we buckle, 0-2 loss. We always feck up.

Take it from the people who have watched every fecking Norway match for the past two decades, there’s no reason for optimism, we will find a way to feck it up. Even with 24 I don’t dare taking anything for granted.

Sorry about the pissy tone. Having WC98 be my first WC and then seeing us fall apart right after and not get up for two decades has been frustrating.

Ahaha, it looks my pessimism around here regarding big tournaments for Portugal, particularly last years under Santos, we already know something stupid will happen to us even if on paper we look good. I know that feeling very well.

:D

As a Norwegian I get annoyed hearing about bigger nations getting sad about not making it to the semis or what have you. We just wanna go to the big show :(

On the plus side, I’d have dealt with the past 9 years as a United fan much more poorly if Norway hadn’t softened me up beforehand, so there is that

Schjelderup is gem.

Think Sander Berge is primed for a bigger club if he stays fit.
