Martin Ødegaard | Arsenal player

Mmm, i think his real sociedad loan got/gets bigged up beyond his actual performances due to his own hype and real madrid's. He was great(before the injury), but, not De Bruyne-at-wolfsburg levels of "holy llama this is a god among men"

Or Graelish for villa last season as another example

Oh no, now he was Pogba Juve amazing and KdB Wolfsburg amazing, not bigged up at all.

He's been good today but the space he's been afforded and the abysmal turning over of the ball from Leeds in the first half have been early Christmas gifts for him.

Aye today was a particularly easy game for him, but he’s been good in general recently after an underwhelming start to the season.

Aye can't deny it. Good passing and a good eye for goal, a little bit of what many of us expected from Donny perhaps.

Agree. It seems he is on a good path in form, fitness and condidence. The english league is propably not the one that fits Ødegaard best, but he fits quite well in in Arsenal. Real Madrid might soon regret letting him go for that relatively small fee.

Been in much improved form recently.

True, but he's extremely underwhelming considering the crazy hype around him. Leeds isn't a great barometer, as plenty of our players have looked like Gods against them. He has been decent recently in general, though.

I think he’s going to go from strength to strength myself looking more confident every game I see him in.

That's the thing about him, it seems that every time he has an injury that sets him back, it takes a long time to reach that consistent top level again.

I really enjoy watching him play when he is on form but if he ever wants to be considered one of the best in his position he will need to learn to dictate games. Some players can control a game from start to finish whereas with Odegaard he seems to drift in and out of games.

I actually thought he was pretty good against us but thankfully made that brain dead challenge that won us the game. Will be interesting to see if he develops into a top player at Arsenal and then whether they can keep him.

Nice run of form he's on now. Think no Aubameyang in front 3 is really helping as pretty static with him up there.

Lego gets lucky as Aubameyang being ill disciplined let’s him fall on a selection of players that’s working together.

Not like Arteta actually made the call to cut Auba despite many people slating him for it is it..

The life of endless managers.

This is template for Arsenal though. Odegaard with 3 mobile players infront of him. You already have it with Saka, Martinelli and Smith Rowe so add a CF who can work the line and that's a very good forward unit for next 5 years with Lacazette and Auba wages off the bill.

He's grown into his role and this league. Fantastic player. Wonderful to watch.

He’s a proper #10. Dictionary definition of the role, just like the greats I grew up on.

Pretty sure there were a few Gooners on here this time last year not wanting to sign him on a perm or even why he was signed.

Fair to say getting shot of likes of WIllian and Ozil and getting in Odegaard is part of the reason why they're seriously going for 4th now.

Really intrigued to see who they select as new CF. I would honestly go all out for Isak given he's linked up well with Odegaard in the past.

With him, Martinelli, Saka and Smith Rowe it's just an exciting forward line.

Brilliant player. He's a little like David Silva in that he looks like a 10 in the attacking third but he is also really adept at controlling the tempo of the game in the middle third, finding solutions for the team when we're having trouble progressing the ball, knowing when to go slow and when to go fast, when to just switch the play and start over, etc. His understanding with Saka on the right side of attack and Partey in the middle of the pitch is really something. He also runs non-stop defensively from the first minute to the 90th.

I think he'll be named our next permanent captain in the summer.

I remember seeing some fans saying that we shouldn’t have loaned Odegaard from Madrid without a purchase option because we are not a small club that develops players for other clubs. What a brilliant move that turned out to be.

I never understand the concept of "develop" players for other club. You loan a player because you have a hole or a gap in the squad you need to fill right now, and the loaned player is the best option the club can find. The club is not doing charity work. It is a win win situation for all three parties (both clubs and the player) involved.

Yeah, from the other side this one is starting to hurt...

Not really. There is zero chance for him to start ahead of Modric in Madrid. Real Madrid took the money and will invest it on Mbappe.

Give him a couple more years to develop and when you're ready to re-sign him, assuming he continues his development, I am sure he'll be keen for a return as he might feel like he has unfinished business. Either that or he'll be too pissed off with you and not want to return . You'll need to spend a bit more to get him back, of course.

He's 24 and Modric is 36 and Kroos 32. Playing at this level he easily would have started over Asensio and Rodrygo this season, and next season in midfield

Real Madrid couldn't give him the stability and game time to develop, won't allow him to make mistakes. He won't be the same player you see today sitting on Madrid's bench or go on loan to another team with a different manager and different tactic every season.

Reminds me of Ozil, his little dinks and chips are quality.

He is playing well in a team still has a role for #10. This role doesn't exist in many teams anymore when everyone copies and play 433.

Takes up great positions on the pitch in which you’d think he’d lose it, but retains possession and creates attacks. Looks like he’s going to be a very good player for years to come.

He has been fantastic - quietly become their most important player. Saka, ESR etc. look a bit iffy these days.

yes. but he is still playing as a #10, is he not? His role is nothing like Liverpool's midfield 3.

I'd say more the right sided midfielder in the 4-3-3, but he drifts in and out. Sort of a mix between the two.

You are right. no argument here. He plays more advanced than Xhaka on the right, and Partey sit back as DM for the midfield 3.

They were describing it as more like a 4141 / 433 hybrid yesterday.

Partey is defo sitting as the lone 6, with Xhaka pushed further up left and Odegaard slightly right.

Great investment there never really was any doubt in quality rather in his mentality and adaptability , great resell value as well .
