Hmm, let me see...'fight for his place at Utd for 6 months' in other words, warm the treatment bench for 6 months or have an opportunity to demonstrate his lethargy at another club? Which option will he take?
And of course he's not going to be willing to leave in January when he's set to earn another £5m between now and the summer.
No other club is going to pay him a fraction of that. Financially he'd be better off freeloading here for the last 6 months of his deal and then retiring than playing another 5 seasons at his market value wages.
Same, we know there are limits and issues with the ownership structure and if we're forced to keep him for whatever reason then hopes for any meaningful change under this model will feel even more clearly unrealistic. If we keep him beyond the summer then any faith in Ineos will instantly vanish
Injuries destroyed him. He was probably our best player in 19/20, but then in 20/21 his form fell off spectacularly and he was shit. We later found out he was playing through injury and could barely sprint, but kept playing because Ole told him we needed him. That season ended with a torn knee ligament (not sure if it was the injury he'd been struggling with all season getting worse or if it was a new injury) and he's never been remotely the same since. He's spent the last three and a half years constantly injured and lost a lot of the speed and agility that he had when younger. How come his form deteriorated so badly? I still remember the promising youngster
in days of yore he'd be due a testimonial next year... Let that one sink in
Probably still more than a Phil Jones testimonial- a player who actually won trophies and achieved titles with the club.Signing in 2015. Hopefully he doesn't get to 10 years.
You imagine how many people would be at an Anthony Martial testimonial?
Lucky to get 10k with free tickets.
I very much doubt any club would be prepared to offer him a 4 year deal at his age and with his injury record over the last couple of years. I also doubt he'll receive an offer as lucrative as the one he'll be on for the remaining 6 months of his deal here. What an idiot, he is obviously in a position to ask for 3-4 years elsewhere and a less demanding league will probably mean the buying team gets a lot out of him. A 4 year contract at whatever wage is going to be worth more in signing bonuses etc. than 6 months here where there is no chance he gets renewed.
Makes sense for him as he's unlikely to make a good enough impression at any of the teams interested to change ManUtds mind to extend the contract, by staying he can maybe have a purple patch or move some strings at a personal level to get that one year extension.
Anyway by any means we shouldn't extend his contract, he's mostly unavailable due to injures or fitness and when he plays his body language is awful plays like he doesn't care. Waste of wages and promotes an awful culture. Players like this need to go, we have way too many passengers in the team earning top wages which inevitably leads to increase the wages of the squad.
Don't really blame him for sticking around. He's on a ridiculous contract and is still better than Hojlund at the moment.
More to the game than running fast.Is he feck. How can a player with a terrible attitude, no work ethic, who can't sprint better? He's shite.

Why brings nothing to the team, I’d rather have ten men out thereWe might as well keep him in the summer as we have no other options upfront right now and poor Rasmy isnt quite ready yet.
He is well and truely shafting us by staying, he clearly doesnt want us to get a transfer fee for him and knows he wont get the wages he is on at any other club.
Give out stupid contracts, pay the price when we can't get rid. Not his problem. He is well and truely shafting us by staying, he clearly doesnt want us to get a transfer fee for him and knows he wont get the wages he is on at any other club.
He doesn't want to play. He wants to collect his fat check and hang out with his mates. Jose was right about him from the start.

Out of the two I know who I'd trust to put the ball in the net when presented with a good chance and sadly it isn't Rasmus.
We shafted ourselves by having him at United for the past 9 years.
What difference does another few months make? He wont get a new contract and no one would buy him at this point, knowing he is on a free in 5 months time.
The last thing he wants to do it put himself in the shop window by going on loan and failing. Or even worse, get an injury.
Best for him to keep calling in sick and not playing.
Ed has a lot to answer for.9 years??? That is truly a self-shaft job by United.
Yes being available is pretty important, Martial fails that test.More to the game than running fast.
