Mario Götze

I'd be curious what Pep has to say on the player (apart from him being a professional player) because you never see a midfielder go backwards under him

Thiago... sadly.

Is that mostly cos of injuries? Though in fairness, I never was a big fan of his at Barca. Would give the ball away very cheaply..usually after doing something decent.

I don't think it is. Both Götze and Thiago were unlucky with injuries, Thiago even more. But both had enough chances to become key players during healthy spells in the last 3 years and neither took the chance. Thiago's last season was simply underwhelming, especially in tough games where he was often something between invisible and a liability.

But he DID take a step backwards under Pep.
Do you think Martinez has also been moved around too much for his own good? I know he has had injury issues but I rarely see him play in midfield for Bayern and he seems to have taken a step back since Pep joined.

Martinez has hardly played matches the recent three seasons. The midfield question was never an issue recently as we had so many problems in defense and recently none in central or defensive midfield.

So according to Kicker -> Dortmund want now Götze back and are ready to spend €25-30m on him.

They're also interested in Schürrle but that is actually only Tuchel's big wish (Watzke & Zorc are not fans of him) and he would cost too much (€30-35m).

Latest Bild-rumor: Götze has announced he will leave. Possible destination...

...wait for it...

...Tottenham.
:wenger:

He is desperate. 3 years at Bayern doing feck all, dont expect top clubs to be after you.
Well he could have gone back to Dortmund, at least it was my impression they would have taken him back. A Tottenham move has shades of Shaqiri.

I was excited about him when he first broke onto the scene for Dortmund, but as time has passed and I've seen him more and more, I'm no longer that impressed by him. Tottenham might get a tune out of him by their standards, but he'll never take then to the next level or anything like that.

I am not even seeing the immense talent he showed when he was a teenager.
He has regressed badly.

Who's he displacing out of Eriksen, Lamela and Alli?

Not really bothered if Spurs sign him.

Yeah, that rumor has been going around since last night. I think he is too wary about being accepted by Dortmund fans & prefers Spurs due to them being in CL. I think he would go to BVB eventually.

Bench of course, how could he possibly start in that immense Spurs midfield

IF he came to Spurs - and I'm sceptical at this point - he's not necessarily displacing anyone in the Spurs attacking three behind Kane. And nor is he necessarily going to sit on the bench.

Obviously it all would depend on how well he and the others perform. Is there anything wrong with that?

I'd like to see him going to Tottenham, he might thrive under Poch. Definitely a better option than most of the teams he's been linked with.

Tottenham would be another bad move for Götze.

No I think it will be a good one. Pochettino has been instrumental in reviving careers of lots of players. Lamela walker Rose Kane Dembele Dier and getting Alli to be potentially England's best MF from a league 1 midfielder. It may possibly be better than vying for a spot in Dortmund.

Götze must be a starter in his next club and i can't see that at Tottenham.

He wouldn't start at Dortmund either. Frankly I think he will have to contend with fighting for a place whichever club he goes to.

At the start of last season even dembele didn't start but he was their key player later on. I think pochettino could possibly motivate a good player out of him. If he gets back to even a good level he will be better than eriksen. Of course it all depends on his motivation.

Götze won't be a starter at Spurs. At the moment with that awesome midfield they have only peak Modric can possibly earn a start or two.

Putting Götze into that starting line up would be an insult to Lamela, Eriksen or the others part of the best midfield line the Premiership has seen since its inception.

Signing Götze means that they will probably try to boost the competition in their reserve squad.

He would take Mkhitaryan's place.

Not sure about that. I think he'd fight with Kagawa for the AM spot. I expect Castro to take Mkhi's place unless Dembele starts the season on fire and can make that right wing position his own. It also depends on how long Reus is out injured of course.

I like both rumoured clubs for Götze. Both Tuchel and Pocchetino are good managers for him and both squads are strong but not full of big names, so he has a good chance to become a regular starter but he has to fight for it and won't just walk into the first eleven. I really hope he can turn his career around.

No one is impressed by him these days. The early move to Bayern, Guardiola not beeing a fan of him, beeing converted from a #10 to a false #9 and some injuries really broke his career so far. And at this EUROs even Joachim Löw stopped backing him. 3 years ago he was rated head-to-head with Neymar as the biggest talent in the world. :wenger:

Well if i was him, i would go back to Dortmund. But i am not sure if Dortmund wants him considering his wages and his current form. Would be a high risk to take for Dortmund as their finances are not unlimited.

He will only cost Dortmund half of Mkhi. They are can use the rest of the money to pay for his wages and maybe fund a deal for Kovacic.

Best joke so far lol

On a serious note, Götze would start for Liverpool, Dortmund or Spurs. He is not that shite

At the time, it was said Pep had personally requested for Gotze and he was going to play him like Messi (False 9). It worked for a lil while too, then he got injured.

Crazy how it wasn't too far ago when a lot of people had, rightfully may I add, Gotze ahead of Neymar as the best young player in the game. Injuries didn't help, but Pep didn't do him any favors either.

I think a club like Valencia is his level now, and should he turn his career around, he can be ready for one last big money move to RM/Barca/United by the time he's 28. Would like to see West Ham in for him if their bid for Bacca fails. Gotze, Ferghouli and Payet has potential to be the most exciting attacking partnership in the PL

I think United should sign him. He would be a better option than Pogba

;-)

On the one hand I'd be glad to see another good player like Gotze in the Premier League. However, I don't think he's good enough to instantly make Spurs title contenders. Lamela has 2 years left on his contract and he's improved quite a bit in the league while performing well in the Europa for Spurs last season. I don't see Gotze displacing Spurs attacking trio which makes him a very expensive bunch sub, a role he already fills at Bayern on massive wages. It would be a very strange move considering they also have Son Heung-Min that missed a big portion of the season through injury and fits the same role as Gotze. If i was a Spurs fan i'd be hoping to strengthen the team elsewhere.

Good post and thanks for the insight. I remember being very excited by watching him play for Dortmund under Klopp and then he hit the winning goal in the WC final which gave him instant legendary status. Very sad to see a talented lad not hit the heights he was destined for.

Thank you! Just because they havent seen him play at Bayern, they think he wont even be a starter at those clubs.
