Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis Laughs Off Reports Of Marek Hamsik Manchester United Move - Goal.com

I don't think we'll get anyone from the top tier unless Rooney or Carrick goes, in which case we may have some money in our transfer kitty. I mention those two because I cannot see any other players going, unless someone comes up with a bid for Nani - that's not unthinkable with the way he's been playing this season, he may well generate £25m to £30m income, but that's highly unrealistic. If we don't sell anyone, I could see us going for some of the less known names - like Lindergaard who's been mentioned recently, or perhaps Defour who could be signed at lower price (not sure if low enough though seeing as they managed to sell Fellaini to Everton for £14m).

I don't think we require many signings mind, unless any of the old brigade is going to leave now but I think most will stay for another year.

I'm guessing you're of the opinion that Fergie and Gill are lying about the money they say is there if Fergie wants a particular player?

I don't think there's any money except for what we generate from sales and perhaps additional £3m to £5m from the budget.

Fair enough, I admit I am a bit skeptical and I wouldn't trust Gill as far as I could throw him, however I'd like to think Fergie would not lie quite so blatantly to the supporters.

He says what owners want him to say but I don't blame him, they're his employers even if he doesn't like that. I think we could make one statement signing for £25m or more, it's not impossible, but it'll be covered by incomes from sales of players - in this case as I said I'd expect Carrick, Kuszczak and maybe some youngsters like Macheda and Welbeck to go to make up that £25m.

That is just pretty ignorant. You just cannot expect him to say the truth all the time. Of course that is what the Glazers want him to say. He is not going to come out and just say we are broke and have no money to spend.

Look this is a fresh renewed hope Hamsik thread. I don't want it muddied by do we have cash or not debates.

He is going to cost a lot of money though because he just signed a deal that keeps him at Napoli till 2015. I would say around 25M.

more than that I reckon, Inter are already willing to pay 30 for him and that was before he signed the new contract.

We buying the Toothy one, gambs or what?

I don't know, he keeps teasing me. First he signs his new contract with Napoli on my birthday, but now says he'd find us hard to resist. I can't decide if he's sending me mixed messages.

He may but what I don't get is he wants to play for the best in Europe and still goes and signs a new contract for another 5 years in a mediocre club.

Every player who is linked with us says the same thing - they cannot turn down United.

Napoli star Marek Hamsik open to Old Trafford transfer - Transfers - ESPN Soccernet

Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik has admitted he would struggle to turn down Manchester United if offered the chance to move to Old Trafford.

Marek Hamsik has been strongly linked with Inter Milan

Hamsik, 23, has been mentioned as a possible transfer target for United having demonstrated during his time in Serie A that he is an accomplished midfielder with an eye for goal.

The Slovakia international has averaged ten goals a season in the past three Italian campaigns and has already scored three in nine games in the 2010-11 season for Napoli.

With United still searching for a long-term replacement for Paul Scholes, Hamsik says he would welcome the chance to work under Sir Alex Ferguson.

"It is pleasing to hear that kind of comment, even if I haven't had any direct contact," Hamsik told RAI Sport. "I have to admit, it would be difficult to say no to Manchester United."

There are many reasons why he'd want to stay, most of them I repeated time and again in the old thread. Don't know if I can be arsed going through it again though.

Just to clarify, it is not ignorant because there are ways to say things that are not as definite as "I have the money and will buy the signature players when the time is right." Fergie is a very smart man and would not hang himself out so far in the twilight of his career unless he was sure IMO.

@ Sarni, I agree that if a big signing is made then we will be selling a couple of players.

@ gambs, sorry mate, as for your man Hamsik, I think Napoli must know they cannot keep him long term unless he has zero ambition and I would imagine they'd rather sell abroad than strenthen Inter even further.

Of course it would be hard to say no to Manchester United. It would also be hard to say no to 150k per week from City.

I don't think City need him and I don't think it is hard to decide between us and City. We will easily give him 100K per week plus trophies, while City can give 150K per week and no trophies.

By the looks of it, if we're linked with someone, Citeh do try to spend their unlimited fortune just for the sake of not letting us get our targets.

They are more than welcome to do that. They are not doing themselves any favors by buying all the players we are linked to. There is going to be so much ego in that dressing room and so many fall outs and not to mention the transfer fees and the exorbitant wages. Plus their players won't be playing regularly like it is now with Adebayor, Santa Cruz, Given etc.

Apology accepted, now don't do it again.

Of course they don't need him, just like they didn't need most of the striker they've bought - but they still bought them.

must admit, I haven't seen a lot of this fella but he looks a bit lightweight for the PL to me. All I've seen is the WC where, like a lot of big names he failed to impress, so I'm a bit in the dark. Who is he like and do you really think he's the goods?

Napoli are no push overs. They are owned by a rich and ambitious owner who can rely on one of the strongest fan base in Italy. Hamsik had been Inter's target for years but they failed to get him because Napoli can afford not selling players. This year they managed to exploit Inter's hesitation and get one of their targets (Cavani) who had been simply magnificent this year. If United are determined to get Hamsik then they'll have to dig deep in their pockets.

When he's at his best he's a mixture of Nedved and Lampard, 2 footed and a great engine. I've seen him physically dominate many supposed tough guy midfielders of Italy. Unfortuanetly hes still in bad form and has been moved up towards a more forward role.

Lightweight ? He is far from that... Not the Essien build but certainly not a lightweight.

Anyway, when you look at Fabregas and Wilshere... Do you really need to be super built just to play CM ? I"d say its more about positioning, vision and passing which from what I've seen from quite a few Napoli games, I'd say Hamsik has those attributes.

What do you want ? Hamsik has a great engine, can press MF's as good as Fletch, can pass the ball better but probably Fletcher edges him at Crossing because Fletch used to play RW...

Hamsik edges for tecnique and skill on the ball and has the stamina to run up and down and pop in the both to score quite a few, If you watched him for Napoli last season he was basically their heart and soul doing almost everything, scoring, passing, defending... Not that I usually am a muppet... but I'm sure gambit and a few others know what they are muppeting about...

I know nothing about this guy, but anyone please tell me if he is cuptied in any way this season?

Had a good assist on the weekend. Forgot to say he's got a good header on him as well.

Any club could use his talent and ability, even City, regardless of the current personnel employed. And City are mere months away from winning trophies with their unlimited spending. They'll soon enough morph into a title/cup winning side much like Blackburn and Lazio in the past. We might as well realize this will eventually happen.

Unless you know the player personally, and taking into consideration that agents have a say in matters, we can't say for sure if this player would turn down 150k or more from City to play for United at 2/3 or 1/2 that wage.

That doesn't really answer my question does it?!

He's cuptied in the Europa League for anyone still playing in that (i.e. City) but every CL club has the option of bringing one player in to their CL squad that played in the EL before then (see Huntelaar and Diarra at Madrid fiasco two years ago).

Eventhough City have a few world class players, they will not win either the PL or the UCL for atleast another two years. I know Mancini is a good manager but he is NOT the right man to lead City. They need someone like Rijkaard or a Mourinho type manager to lead them to success. As long as Mancini is there, we don't have to worry about City winning any major trophies.

If you are a manager, you can't keep having bust ups every other week with your players. You lose the respect of the players if that keeps happening. I really don't see City gelling together as a cohesive unit. It will take some time before they will look good playing together CONSISTENTLY.

That is where Mourinho has done a great job by incorporating Khedira, Ozil and Di Maria in his lineup. I know La Liga is way easier than Premiership but when I look at Madrid, I can just see them gelling and playing together as a unit. That is why Madrid look more dangerous this year than last year.

I havent seen an awful lot of him, I have caught him in a few games and he looks alright, I have doubts about how he would go in England though for some reason....possibly mis guided but still...
