Marcus Rashford (out) | signs for Villa on loan

So basically villa pays around 200k for a 6 month boost on their CL campaign. Massive shirt sales boost as he's Rashford after all.

No obligation to buy. They could have just said thank you we dont want him comes next season and we'll be back to square one

But at least we've saved 200k and he can get play time, better than rotting in reserves

Not out in the wood just yet. Even if he bangs a few goals 300k permanent deal is too much, unless he magically pulls a Messi, which i doubt.

We've been mugged. But hey beggars can't choose

When rashford played well we played well. His goal contributions have still been good over the last few years and will be hard to replicate. However he is the answer and the problem. Not much space at united to a player that literally yoyos in form. And recently it's been at the bottom for a little too long.
His goal contribution was very good for one of the last three full seasons - even setting aside his high wages and key player status, therfore high expectations, an attacker playing 32 and 43 games for United should be getting much more than 5 and 8 in those other two seasons. So I don't think those will be hard to replicate at all. Zirkzee and Hojlund are pretty much replicating them this season - Hojlund actually better - in what is rightly considered a pretty awful season for them so far.

The transfer fee is irrelevant. I really don't see Rashford agreeing to join them long term.

Can he really refuse them after agreeing such deal 5 months prior? Would his reputation be further tarnished if he does that?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is a buy option mandatory? Villa may have first option on him, but say he does smash it and the likes of Barcelona do decide to spend £50m on him - isn't that still possible? He could even reject Villa if his desired clubs re-entered the chat. All very unlikely though.
I’d have thought so. It’s also up to Rashford, to see what’s out there. There’s a lot of parties at play still. We just have to hope that Rashford absolutely digs out blind for the next six months at villa which in turn make him a bit of hot property around Europe again. And of course, for INEOS to have the wisdom, to know that it’s over for him at United, regardless of how many trees he pulls up during this loan period.

Are any villa fans likely to buy anybody’s shirt in February? Especially one that’s possibly only there for 4 months?

The douchebag dress sense is the real giveaway for me and shows where his head is at. Rashford clearly thinks he's some kind of Hollywood celebrity. Football is clearly secondary to him at this point in his career.

Even a former world class player like Ronaldo never dressed like that much of a muppet when he was in his prime.

Good job in getting rid of him. Hope he works out great for Villa and we don't see him in a United shirt again.
Why does what someone wears in their free time bother you so much? Such a boomer complaint. Oh no he has a loud hoodie on.

Great move for United, A 5-6 m savings on his wages over the next 6 months is good enough to cover Dorgu signing and half of a loan for another attacker (hopefully Tel).

That’s much better for us than having him on the training field without getting on the subs bench.

Marcus will have a blinder of a 6 months at Villa - no doubt about that: he’s a player who can really turn it up when he wants to. He’ll be motivated to prove how good he is, and Villa will benefit massively. Let’s see if he will be able to maintain it 2-3 years from now.

Great deal for us.

Better than any of us thought. Anyone who thinks we could get more has rose tinted glasses on remembering his last purple patch two years ago.

If he does do really well Villa have got a good deal. Not a bargain - just a good deal. There needs to be a potential upside for them or they wouldn't agree to the deal in the first place.

More likely the 40m is a PR spin and if Villa want to keep him they will ignore the option and renegotiate afresh. However they know that they can never be 100% priced out of keeping him with the option.

In all liklihood Rashford will perform better with Villa. He's been with United since he was 7 and being there for so long it's understandable (but not acceptable) for him to be blasé about Carrington and Old Trafford. Going into a new club he will have to put a lot more effort in there right from hhe start. He will also be motivated to prove people wrong.

There is still a good chance that we end up back with him in the summer but that might actually not be a bad thing. Having an air gap at Villa will only help give perspective. By then Ruebens system will be more adopted and more players will have arrived. Whilst Marcus might not be ideal for our new play style when on form he has enough to his game to be a good option if motivated - but he needs to be a team player and not always cut inside and try to beat too many players or just shoot.

The above might be enough for Marcus to buy into the project. He always said he wanted challenge.

70% and 40M is an absolute steal….for us

He’s been a nothing player for us for quite some time so that sounds like a great deal to me.

He could win the ballon dor at Aston Villa and I wouldn’t care less. Let’s hope he performs to a suitable standard to ensure we pocket that money
Normally with a loan of a senior player between top flight clubs you'd expect a sizeable loan fee - I can't see any talk of that. And we're also covering some of the wages, so we're in effect helping to pay Rashford to play for Villa, rather than them paying us. That's not an absolute steal from us - that's good negotiating once again from Villa. If he fails, he hasn't cost them much. If he succeeds, they've got themselves a good deal.

I imagine if we sign an attacking player on loan to replace Rashford - such as Tel or Nkunku - there'll be a sizeable loan fee involved. But it would be great if there wasn't.

It's because he's not backing it up with performances on the pitch. That's why it bothers me. Shows that he's more concerned about image and ego rather than playing football at this point.

If he was doing his job properly on the pitch, he could dress up like a clown and it wouldn't bother me at all.

Why the feck are we including a buy option clause? That’s absolute madness. It’s of no benefit at all to us and, if Rashford tears it up, we will have the best clubs in Europe lining up to sign him.

It's the first dent in Amorims reputation that he's unable to get Rashford firing again and destroyed him publicly?
It’s the total opposite. Finally someone has the nuts to call the right shots for the good of the team. The tail was wagging the dog for a little while there. This is a prime Fergie move.

Yeah feck off Marcus. We're obsessed with our academy players, we like to think it's something that makes us special. The streak of having a graduate in the squad for ages, the "you can't win anything with kids" etc. If the majority of the fanbase turns against one of our academy players, the player needs to take a good look at the mirror.

If that was the case, pretty sure Rashford would just turn down Villa's offer.

No offence but this is the sort of thinking that saw us retain Lingard after his West Ham loan, or give the likes of Jones and Bailly new 5 year deals, to ‘protect their value’.

If we’re sure he isn’t good enough, back your judgement, and have the confidence to cut and run. That’s the sort of decisive mindset we’ve been lacking.

We aren’t cutting and running though - that would be if Villa had an obligation to buy. An option for Villa means that we lose all control - he has a Lingard like loan and we don’t get the benefit of other clubs being interested. He is awful and Villa don’t exercise it anyway.

Absolute drivel but expected given the state of some of our fans these days, the boss has played this perfectly as the only guilty party here is Rashford and his unprofessional attitude.

So happy about this loan with option to buy. We just can’t have a player who get paid superstar wages without actually being one.

I hope he does great for them and we get the transfer fee as well.

This reset is long overdue. Rúben Amorim, you are the right man. Not wasting any time and has shown he can stand in the midst of the storm.
