I am wondering what he is like when the cameras aren't on him....you know, behind closed doors?
It is odd, isn't it? I mean I watch a lot of sports and I can only thing of one guy in my 30+ years of watching half a dozen leagues across many sports who just decided to dog it: Vince Carter with the Toronto Raptors. Usually the attitude that leads these guys to the summit is the same attitude that prevents them from allowing themselves to become punchlines, unless there are substance abuse issues. You'd never see Roy Keane, Ray Lewis, Larry Bird, etc. doing what Rashford has done, really does my head in.

It's been interesting seeing some of the responses from Villa fans to this, some of whom think that actually the issues at United are the cause of all Rashford's problems, and he's just not been supported or loved enough by the club. Then some seem more wary about the move.

I don't know. I feel sad it came to this, but Christ it couldn't go on the way it was. The manager issued a challenge to him and he didn't step up. He's been dogging it on the pitch for a while, and was inconsistent a lot of the time anyway. The repeated incidents of going out partying. The probability of his being involved in the leaking of information. And this stuff is all before you get to things like his loss of top end pace, some of his infuriating decision making...

I suspect he goes to Villa and has a half decent return for them, scores a few goals and has a few assists, but not enough compelling performances for them to keep him around. So in the summer we're trying to find a buyer. Who knows, maybe Emery can get a tune out of him, but I think the loss of some physical ability might be a bigger problem than the lack of application.

When he need a contract, he will play very good.. he proved that from the past

A common theme I’ve heard, especially from Henry Winter, is that he’s quite introverted.

I imagine a guy who is maybe cool in his circle, gets a bit uncomfortable outside of his circle. Then might come across as awkward/trying to hard when he’s trying to do the branding stuff. Which I have to say he does. Look at him surrounded by United players, beautiful natural smile, seems right at home. Then look at him when he’s posing in clubs or dressed like a rapper in the USA just seems cringy and clearly not his natural environment.

It’s overall a fairly sad story. You know we all feel sorry for sports people who miss out on the wins their talent deserves. I don’t think there is a single bad thing in Rashford’s makeup but his instincts aren’t great and he seems easily influenced. In a team with Keane or Cantona he might have had a very different trajectory. I think he just got trapped in a bad dynamic and didn’t have the skills or people near him to get out of it. He’s likely already overachieved all the dreams he had as a kid but in a few years he will probably have many regrets and no opportunity at fixing them.

The club failed him by indulging his bad instincts and not providing a strong culture that would have supported him. But he made his own problems through general low self awareness, motivation and distractions.

I actually think the turning point for him was Southgate’s terrible decision to sub him on as a fairly immature kid (I know he was 23 or something but not like bringing on someone with tons of experience) to take a penalty for England- I don’t think he really came back after that. I know he had a great season etc but he just seemed less care free and enjoying the game.

On a purely personal level I would love to see Villa working out for him, I think it about the right level for him with scope to improve them at his best etc.

All that said I’m glad he’s going. He was damaging everything here and the club player relationship was broken. Having a drink to hoping both are better in their separate futures.

If he smashes it at Villa and becomes prolific does that mean it is our club that will be the issue?

It would mean that he can't be arsed playing for us but is comfortable to play for someone else. It's a win win situation for both. We get a fee and he resurrects his career elsewhere.

Or maybe it means he’s not getting along with his current manager and feels like he’s being forced out.
There are times when it’s right for a player to move on for the good of his career and the good of the club he plays for.
Pretty sure it’s not all as black and white of the club/ manager are saying.

The English Pogba then.
Pogba is 10 times Rashford will ever be and his trophy cabinet is something the latter will never remotely achieve even in his wildest dreams.

Rashford is the symbol of the Glazer's era and everything that's wrong with MU. Absolute scrubs being worshipped, put on a pedestal and given a king's ransom to just show up and somewhat play football when they can be arsed.

This emotional investment for bang average players as well as the unconditional love and infinite patience for utterly limited try-hards just because they run a lot, is why MU have stopped to be relevant for more than a decade. The same can be said for the managers. Small-time mentality which lead MU to be run as a family business and not the international football juggernaut it once was.

INEOS want to shake things up and it should rightly start with Rashford.

According to Mitten, Rashford had been an issue with every manager he played with. His performances had flip flopped under each of these managers and there had been disciplinary issues under them as well. Some players seem not suited to play at a top club. Taibi for example was untouchable at Piacenza, Buffonesque level, Milan signed him back, he was dog shit there, he recovered his form at Venezia and was dog shit with us. Roberto Baggio was 10 times the player prime Rashford ever was but he always struggled at big clubs and he felt more comfortable playing at smaller clubs like Fiorentina and Bologna. Similarly to Rashford, Baggio is an incredibly shy and introvert person. The difference lie with the friends Baggio surrounded himself with, the application in training and of course talent.

I like this post. He’s not gone yet but it feels as though the dust is settling a bit and it feels a massive shame and a waste for both parties.

Hope it works out for him, he’s had some great memories here and put in some brilliant performances, and whilst I think there will be a lot of regrets there’s certainly a lot of proud moments.

It’ll take a good few years but he’ll be remembered fondly I’m sure.

Of course the immediate context is important, but how is 40mil for him a good option?
What were you expecting? Current Marcus Rashford is terrible. £40m is as good as it was ever going to get. Look at it for what it is, a great piece of business for us no matter how well he does over there. He was a busted flush on massive wages. He's off the books now and we could get £40m on top.

I think it's a good middle of the road sum. If he smashes it there then it's a steal for them, if he's decent but not great then it's on par and if he's crap then I suppose they keep walking. 40m ain't bad for a player we no longer want

considering his age, wage and length of contract that he still has with us then that will likely be something in the region of £75m for him.

Given that he has been perceived as lazy and a poor trainer to get him out of the squad is also worth a lot even if it can’t be quantified in cash.

What I do t want to hear is that he will get some form of settlement from us for his decrease in salary if he goes. And if it’s only an option to buy then that means he has to perform otherwise he will be coming back which will be another headache for the summer…..

Based on watching Villa last night I reckon he could do well there.

Baggio was unbelievable at Juventus

If this is true it’s amazing business. Rashford on his wages gaining £40 million for our PSR.

£40m and his massive wages off the books. Great bit of business for the player he's been for 2 and a half years. Bordering on championship level.

Hope he sucks for them...
I hope he smashes it for them. So they can sign him permanently. Rashford is not leading any team of note anywhere no matter how well he plays. So its best if we can get rid of those big wages ASAP.

He's a speed merchant whose slowly losing his pace, he's on a massive salary, he doesn't fit the system and he had lost his love towards United. 40M is a decent deal.

Just reading the Aston Villa forum and it's pretty funny that some of them actually think they're going to get the Marcus Rashford of over two years ago. For our own sake I hope they do, as they'll no doubt buy him. However I just can't see it.

A change of scenery can help although in this case there's barely any considering that he's commuting from Manchester to Birmingham. That would be a huge red flag to me if I was their manager.

That's hilarious, why am I not surprised. Can't wait for him to be somebody else's problem even if it's just until the summer.

They're not all impressed with this loan, read quite many of them talking about his lack of effort.
Fingers crossed that he does just enough for them to buy him in the summer.

That's the rumors at the moment. Which is a shame because we need Rashford to do well long enough to persuade villa to buy him

Where has this rumour come from? He hasn’t even signed yet but redcafe know his living and travel arrangements ahead of time.

I don't really remember mate. My mum is sick and I'm following football sparsely at the moment. It could be the caf, some of the YouTube channels I follow or the transfer news

Webby and O'Neill mentioned it as well and they are very well respected in the YouTube world

Agree with this. I often wonder if LVG or Zlatan have stayed longer, would Rashford and maybe even Pogba's career would have turn out better with stronger role models in the club to guide them.

Who knows. Even Lingard did well on loan
