Marcus Rashford (out) | signs for Villa on loan

Funny he'd rather play for Villa rather than suck it up and man up here. I get it if it's a big team, or a cool new city, but Villa?

Weak player who can't be arsed.
Nah surely he'd be going Saudi if that was the case

And then the whole thing would more than likely start again as he starts putting in half arsed performances back here with us, and we get stuck with the same problem. We shouldn't gamble on hoping that he could keep any short term improved effort or form - when motivated to 'prove' something - over the long term.

If the loan goes well, then we can't afford to make the same mistake we did with Lingard after his successful West Ham loan. We need to sell Rashford at the end of the season if his stock has returned high again after the loan and we can then get a decent fee for him. Whether to Villa or elsewhere.
Definitely. He should have played his last game for the club now if all goes well.

Yep, completely agree.

And how his supporters 'spin it" is spot on as well. The insistence on downplaying any criticism by playing the same one card - despite so many clear reasons why so much of the criticism is valid, and coming from his own managers as well - is getting very desperate and bemusing by now.

He's likely to to put the effort in when out on loan, and deliver some good performances and goals, and no doubt his fans will try to use that to mock the critics and as 'proof' that the issue wasn't ever Rashford. But we all know that he's capable of delivering those levels of performances when he's up for it and putting effort in - and the criticism and frustration has been about his clear unwillingness to do so on a consistent basis, and the half arsed performances he regularly puts in instead.

You need to ask why is the manager publicly criticising a player? It serves no purpose other than to trump up one's own ego as the big boss to appease those who want to desperately believe Amorim has to act like Fergie to succeed or to show there is no way back for the player, so why would he or any player choose to decide to train hard when they know the manager doesn't want them?

It's even more perplexing to choose it at a time when you want to sell the player for the best value. It's not about supporting rashford, it's about common sense and critical thinking

Genuinely don't think there's much between the sides. I wouldn't trade our squad for theirs and I believe there's every chance we'll finish above them next season.
People here fairly underrate Villa here though, I remember last year saying how strong their midfield was and people were saying it was a mid-table team as they finished in the CL places. This year they finished in the top 8 of the CL, which is the equivalent of winning your CL group in the old format.

That's still more than us though isn't it? We won't even be in Europe next year.
We might yet win the Europa. The standard is absolutely pony.

But i've never understood this "oh not in the champions league" for one season thing. As if players rate the chance to lose to better teams for a small handful of games over triple the wage elsewhere etc.

They are a decent side. Though no great shakes at all.

Understanding that in life sometimes you fall into a bad group, bad habits, a bad head space and no matter how much you want to try, sometimes you just can't get your head focused and you can't do your best or show up properly. That's been blatantly obvious for years with Rashford

I admit that Rashford like most kids post SAF weren't properly managed. Take Marcus as an example. He was thrown in the deep end not because he was ready but because LVG was stupid enough to think he could win the EPL with a tiny squad only for him to start playing anyone with 2 legs once injuries hit home. Tbf Rashford seized the chance with both hands but it was evident that his game wasn't yet fully polished and he lacked the maturity to get himself into that spotlight. Then United made him the face of Manchester United, the Glazers made him untouchable while successive managers piggy banked on his goals to the expense of him picking injuries or given the time to develop into an all rounded player. Fast forward to present time and we've got a painfully one dimensional player and who thinks that he's bigger then the club.

Having said that there's zero excuses for anyone not to apply himself in training. That should come natural to any player like breathing. It makes it worse that he's a local lad (thus a supporter of the club like me and you), he's a senior player and a top earner. He also happens to be at a top club which means he can afford any professional help in the world and I am pretty sure that if he asked for it then it would have been given to him for free by the club. And this isn't just about Rashford. FGS look at how many players who had taken the fans for a ride since SAF's had gone (Pogba, Lingard, Sancho, Shaw, Rashford, ADM). Look at this side FGS. Our two highest earners do not even play football on a regular basis. How fecked up is that?

These pity stories (Sancho, Rashford, Lingard etc) do not happen at other clubs simply because success is central at this club and therefore there's little room for excuses. It didn't happen at United when we were successful either because SAF would just usher the player out of the club. Think of the likes of Djordic, Ravel and Gillespie or more senior players such as Ince, RVN and Keane whose behavior went out of the line. I know of a kid (14 years of age back then) who impressed at United but wasn't signed simply because he called home a bit too much. That was enough to persuade the United academy staff that he simply lack the character to build a career at a club like United. That's the ruthlessness United had when we were at our best and that's how we must act if we want to return to our best.

Why keep a player that is not going to play? It makes no sense
We give too much credit to players and players power. If he wants to get his wage, he will train and be ready to play/be on the bench.
Thing which annoys me is that we loan and sell players (solid players) in a way to just get rid and on our expense.

I am all out in favor of discipline and ruthlessness but how exactly would you stop him from getting his wage? The guy has signed a contract!

Who said anything about stopping him in getting his wage? To get his wage he must do his job. Train, travel with squad, play etc...

Nah, not much more than over an hour to their training ground from Alderley Edge.

Not saying it’s ideal though. Just another sign of him not able to make an effort for anything.
Manchester to Birmingham is way over an hour. Sorry, actually Alderney Edge is much closer to Birmingham.

Training covers a huge spectrum mate. If you go to a gym you'll notice guys who are built like Eddie Hall while others who paid a month subscription and who, after some session, will never step foot in a gym ever again. Both type of people are training.

This reminds me on Ross and Chandler.

Very valid points and completely agree on the training and ruthlessness we need to be showing.

Why the feck are Saudi not interested in any of our players? Rashford and Casemiro are prime signings for them when similar players have left for big fees.

Racism doesn't always work like this, though. There are probably United fans who attach racist epitaphs to Rashford, but love Amad.

Whenever Amad has a few bad games, he'll get bile, too.

It's not only racists against Rashford, either. There's a few Tories and associated 'anti-woke' culture warriors, sick of 'political correctness', who'd love to see MR fail for their own ends.

Not the majority, of course, but they do exist, let us not lie.
FFS, what have I just read?

Talk about a load of bollocks.

It's to inspire the player to do better, you know, like Garnacho responded well?

Bloody hell.

I definitely don't think this is anything to do with Amorim's ego. This is about firstly setting the standards expected of players in matches, training and outside football, if they don't meet these standards you let them know in private, if they don't listen to you then you incrementally raise the stakes, Amorim must have got to the last stage in his patience. I think Amorim (and probably Wilcox, Berrada and co) got to the point that Rashford has to go, and if his brother isn't getting that sorted we need to make it clear he won't be welcomed back like some lost son, he has to go asap.

It seems Saudi determined not to help United with any of the deadwood. They owning Newcastle could play a part in it too.
