Marcus Rashford (out) | signs for Villa on loan

Hmm this will put me in a moral dilemna, do I want to see Marcus doing well or Villa doing badly?

Actually think it might be a good place for him. Do not think Emery will mince his words with him and while Birmingham probably does have some sort of night life it's not London.

Have mixed feelings on this ..
Been following him since his debut..
Thought he would be here all his life ..
My kids favorite player ..
Will be weird seeing him in Villa shirt

Peered onto the Villa forum and they don't look happy. Some annoyance at Emery for requesting him

It does seem a bit odd for Emery to want him.

Maybe it's just be a vanity signing for their rich owner., it'll certainly draw alot more attention to their games for a while.

Will be very weird if he suddenly becomes motivated and hard working at Villa. Could almost understand it if he went abroad for a full change of scenery but not this.

Glad he's gone anyways, good deal for us.

It'd be weird, but I really can't see it happening. Along with the lack of motivation, his body looks shot. Villa fans are in for a surprise if they don't already know how poor a footballer he is these days.

Hope he does well good move for him and back in the champions league. Still think he will end up at Barcelona in the summer

I’d take Andy Mittens opinion over Henry Winters any day of the week.

Why do people in our fanbase tie themselves up in knots to defend the indefensible.

Rashford had the world on a plate - and has spectacularly fecked it up. Only has himself to blame, not Ole, not Rangnick and not ETH.

His PR team can spin whatever way they want, but they are now coming face to face with reality - any top team with a half decent scouting system will run a mile from Rashford.
If he ends up at Villa after all of his posturing I will die laughing.

PR machines cant distort reality.

No idea how he thought he could get a move to a Barca or Juve. Now he will be cover for Ollie Watkins.

A proper sliding doors moment for the club and him, it would appear. Hope he smashes it and we've got a slew of clubs lining up for his signature in the summer.

According to Athletic Emery believes Rashford in the right mentality is one of the most dangerous forwards in Europe and he backs himself to bring it back.

Pleasantly surprised to see this happen. I didn't think he would leave. Good riddance, though. Hoping it becomes permanent in the summer.

An actual cultural reset.

Frustratingly, I can see a loan to Villa being a success for him - similar to Lingard and West Ham. Because he'll be desperate to 'prove' something to United (too bad he hasn't felt that need for the last 18 months), and I think he'd be able to keep up effort and commitment for those few months at Villa.

Long term, I'm sure we'd soon see a return to the inconsistency and lack of effort. Hopefully, though, a few months good performances (and effort) with Villa might boost our chances of selling him in the summer so then his patchy form and poor attitude would be another clubs problem. Just needs us to sell him when / if his stock returns high after the loan - unlike with Lingard when we missed that chance.

Can't find a team willing to buy him, can't even find a team willing to pay all his wages.

United must stop overpaying, they can't even get rid of players they're so overpaid.

Please let this happen quickly before Villa wake up.

The best of Rashford was the youthful exuberance and excitement he had to be playing. That seems long gone, it's cars, gold, celebrity shite look at me me me me.

Hope he does well, maybe a change of scenario will make him focus on what's important.

I still don't get that option to buy clause. It should be mandatory or nothing.

He will hit form regardless he always does when he has a fire under his ass.

New contract time he turns it on, then everyone wants him to sign and at that point as soon as the ink dries he returns to shite.

He’ll have a great final part to the season as pundits fall over themselves to kick the boot in on us for the 100th time but it’s still a great decision for us in the long term

So Rashford out, Tel in for the rest of the season? Shame Rashford lost his motivation with us, hope it works out for all. But especially United as it’s been a disaster the last few years. Have high hopes Ruben is starting to turn it around.

I would prefer him to go abroad, just because of the unlikely possibility that he may regain some form at Villa.

Good, best of luck to him.

If it can be done then Emery is probably the man to do it aswell.

Getting Rashford back in form and sold in the summer will be massive for us.

Devastating for him going to a champions League club

Because you know that is BS, and that your condescending patronisation of PoC is problematic itself.

Cheap-as-dirt generic comeback? Well! Who could've seen it coming?

ETA

What I said was that highlighting how Rashford dresses in public (rather than just calling him unprofessional without mentioning his attire) is potentially different from simply stating that Fowler dresses like a flash wanker.

Why is it potentially different? Do we really have to get into details, historical context, all that (again)? Do people really not understand that there is a contextual difference?

If they don't – fine. But it's not my job to explain it, and others can do it better than me (is that less condescending?).

I hope he has one of his purple patches and at the end of the season, Villa end up triggering the rumoured option to buy. I'm not at all worried about him doing well for a rival. Even if he can do it over a short period of time in the right circumstances, he won't be putting in elite performances for the next 5 years.

Don't have any hard feelings towards him and hope he can rebuild himself again. Sometimes things don't pan out as you expected, and sometimes you reach a point where it's better for all groups to separate. Rashy has been part of United for 20 years now, and is always going to be a lifelong fan of the club. That doesn't mean it's always going to be a happy environment for him to be in and it's been clear for a few years now that we've needed to part ways. It's sad, but it is what it is and it's long since due. He's needed a change of scenery for one reason or another. The club has been a toxic place for years, the club is also going in a different direction tactically that doesn't suit him like it used to, while Rashford also has probably fallen into some bad groups and personal habits while being here.

Going to Villa is a chance for a fresh start. Hopefully he can get out of his bad habits, because the way they and Emery play football suits Rashford perfectly. It'll be weird seeing him at another PL club, but it is what it is. Glad we can find a solution to this that works for all. He can get a move that suits him, and he's going to a place where he might actually find his form and get a big money move which works better for us, along with the wage issue of course being not as big of a deal there.

I honestly wish him the best. Last few years it's been rough but he's still had a long and impactful career at the club. 138 clubs goals in 426 appearances, 2 league cups, 2 FA cups and 1 Europa League. Could be a lot worse.
I would say that he is part of that toxic enviroment. When you don’t train and go away to watch NBA dressed like some wannabe star in the middle of poor season it tells you everything.

He will be brilliant for them I reckon. He is a top player who has lost his way here for whatever reason.

New start will probably do him the world of good. Shame really but needed to happen and now big parties can hopefully move on.
Top player for 2-3 seasons. Max. Otherwise championship quality with lot less mentality.

Just what I was writing earlier today. Loan with buy clause or not at all. Simple. If they don’t include that he can sit on stand rest of his contract and lesson learned from those above manager.

Villa is a step down from Utd. Always.

Anyway, hope he enjoys Birmingham. Never been but im sure theres some good nightlife.

Onwards and upwards.

Since Unai came in theyre a better club and team.

Maybe not financially or historically but on current form and transfer wise they're head and shoulders above us.

How does an option to buy work?

If Villa have an option to buy for say 20m, and Rashford has a great season, or say Barca want to buy for 30m, can United still agree with Barca?

Similarly, if he has a poor season, can Villa say they won’t buy for 20m, but they can try for 10m?

if it’s the latter, then what’s the point of agreeing to this option of 20m?

How he dresses isn't relevant to anything. And yes it's turned into an unhappy marriage between the 2. He is to blame for his own issues but the club has been a toxic disaster for over a decade now and has ruined countless promising talents.

Usually the club has the first option to buy the player, and the price is fixed and pre negotiated
