Marcus Rashford (out) | signs for Villa on loan

How he dresses isn't relevant to anything. And yes it's turned into an unhappy marriage between the 2. He is to blame for his own issues but the club has been a toxic disaster for over a decade now and has ruined countless promising talents.
How you behave. How you dress. How you talk. How you walk. Everything matters.

Money ruined talents. The more they got, the less they saw need for work.

Seems a mental transfer but then Aston Villa are a Champions League team and significantly better than United currently are

Since Unai came in theyre a better club and team.

Maybe not financially or historically but on current form and transfer wise they're head and shoulders above us.
I dont doubt that at this moment in time they are in better shape than us.

But so could you make an argument for Brighton and Bournemouth or any number of clubs in the league.

Im not disparaging Villa - but they arent one of the worlds great clubs. Thats what Rashford clearly expected from this month.

Lets see in Henry Winter gets as much air time on Sky and Talksport to tell us the latest on Rashfords training habits at Villa.

Its a world away from Utd and we all know it.

Now that might be good for him, less glare of the spotlight and who knows, he could do what Paul McGrath did and become a Villa legend.

but it doesnt do his “brand” any good which i suspect his team care more about.

We paid 10 mil plus wages to loan Amrabat.
I know that Rashford's wage is huge but surely we should get some fee for him.
In this way we will save 3-4 mil and Villa will get good player for the rest of the season.

I would rather that we keep him if that is the case.

They are one a select few to have won the European Cup in 82 and have a huge following in the midlands. Saying this from a United fan of 30 years, Rashford knows himself it is a huge drop in level. The history of Manchester United is comparable to very few clubs and like his best mates Pogba and Lingard ( who is captain and doing well) lots of love Jessie for the Fa Cup will be watched and talked about a lot less and this hurts players with his attitude. Any local lad playing for Manchester should know how much this means to all fans to show effort. Thank you Rashford and Thank you Unai

He has only 4m left on his salary until the summer. It's nothing for a team like villa who just sold a player for 65m.

I can't see how one can be a United supporter and not be utterly pissed off towards Rashford. We made the guy and he can't be arsed to train properly? Let that sink in for a second. No wonder why our standards had gone to the shitters
Totally agree Dev. It’s all his own fault no matter how a certain part of the support will spin it

Why keep a player that is not going to play? It makes no sense

You also have to factor in that all teams are aware of how desperate you are for a new attacker with a bucket load of money in the bank. There isn’t much time left to bring someone in with PL experience and without spending a ridiculous amount of money.

I'd have been happy getting Jonathan David in. Vastly experienced in euro competition with Lille and think he's on a free in the summer. Not someone who will come in immediately to replace Watkins but can rotate and get minutes gradually while he adapts to prem.

I really don't think so.
They finished 8 points clear of us last season and are 8 points above us now this season.

It’s not really to be denied.

I believe we can easily leapfrog them next season if we get our shit together this summer, but getting our shit together isn’t something we do any more

How does an option to buy work?

If Villa have an option to buy for say 20m, and Rashford has a great season, or say Barca want to buy for 30m, can United still agree with Barca?

Similarly, if he has a poor season, can Villa say they won’t buy for 20m, but they can try for 10m?

if it’s the latter, then what’s the point of agreeing to this option of 20m?
It all depends on how the option is structured but for the most part it would give Villa first "option/right" (up to a specified date/option expiry date) to buy Rashford at a pre-determined price. So even if say, Barca offered double (or we decided to keep Rashford!), our hands would still be tied until Villa exercised their right to the option (yes/no) or the option expired.

This would still all be dependent on Villa being able to agree a salary with Rashford, of course.

Understanding that in life sometimes you fall into a bad group, bad habits, a bad head space and no matter how much you want to try, sometimes you just can't get your head focused and you can't do your best or show up properly. That's been blatantly obvious for years with Rashford

An option to buy is just what it sounds like, it gives Villa the option to buy him for 20m up until a set date, Rashford would of course also have to agree to the move. If any other team wants to buy him they would need to negotiate a transfer fee with United.

Yep, this. We don't know why he's not putting the effort in. Looking at his body language when he did play doesn't look like someone who just wants to piss about. He looks like someone who's just fed up with everything.

It's like calling someone with depression a lazy sod because they can't get out of bed.

I’m really hoping this is a good move for Marcus. He goes there, trains well. Starts scoring goals and helpfully gets Villa into the semis or finals in the a champions league.

We will get a player whose confidence is back on the books, instead of a player who is completely frozen out. He will excel in the Villa set up if he can just find his mojo again.

Even if Villa have an option to buy, it would work for United because it’s almost at a point of no return for him. Worse case, he does poorly and his value in the market drops further. He is back at United and we move him on in the summer on the cheap.

Win win for everyone.

Will be very sad to see him do well outside United in the premier league, but it’s what we need at the moment. 2-3 years from now, it will be a story of what could have been but Villa are not winning the league anytime soon.

Yep, completely agree.

And how his supporters 'spin it" is spot on as well. The insistence on downplaying any criticism by playing the same one card - despite so many clear reasons why so much of the criticism is valid, and coming from his own managers as well - is getting very desperate and bemusing by now.

He's likely to to put the effort in when out on loan, and deliver some good performances and goals, and no doubt his fans will try to use that to mock the critics and as 'proof' that the issue wasn't ever Rashford. But we all know that he's capable of delivering those levels of performances when he's up for it and putting effort in - and the criticism and frustration has been about his clear unwillingness to do so on a consistent basis, and the half arsed performances he regularly puts in instead.

Usually the club has the first option to buy the player, and the price is fixed and pre negotiated

It is, but the player has to agree to it and sign a contract. In that scenario presented if Rashford gets wind that Barcelona want him and are willing to pay a fee United want, its possible he could just decline the move to Villa and sign for Barcelona. But it would require that Barcelona meet United's terms

And then the whole thing would more than likely start again as he starts putting in half arsed performances back here with us, and we get stuck with the same problem. We shouldn't gamble on hoping that he could keep any short term improved effort or form - when motivated to 'prove' something - over the long term.

If the loan goes well, then we can't afford to make the same mistake we did with Lingard after his successful West Ham loan. We need to sell Rashford at the end of the season if his stock has returned high again after the loan and we can then get a decent fee for him. Whether to Villa or elsewhere.

Genuinely don't think there's much between the sides. I wouldn't trade our squad for theirs and I believe there's every chance we'll finish above them next season.

Probably not the change he wanted. I imagine he wanted to join a more fashionable club but, outside of the loose links to Barca, his workethic and wages likely put alot of major clubs off.

Be interesting to see how he does but , personally, I think he'll underwhelm.

It’s no coincidence that pretty much every boss we’ve hired to come in and whip this lot into shape had a problem with Rashford straight away. The only thing I can’t explain is how he suddenly put up a 30 goal season under ten hag. It’s a huge outlier in the middle of 5 years of being average. Something in his private life maybe?

Percy is the most reliable Villa journalist.

4 hour round trip. Edit - Maybe not. I've done peak hours from central Manchester to Birmingham and it was a couple of hours. On balance, hard to see this move going too well.

Funny he'd rather play for Villa rather than suck it up and man up here. I get it if it's a big team, or a cool new city, but Villa?

Weak player who can't be arsed.

Nah, not much more than over an hour to their training ground from Alderley Edge.

Not saying it’s ideal though. Just another sign of him not able to make an effort for anything.
