If Rashford was matching Bruno’s creative stats in a much bigger sample size while he was still at United then you might have a point. Of course, if that was the case he wouldn’t be playing for Aston Villa.

He’ll have the best creative stats in the league since he arrived! It’s hardly a fair barometer.

To be fair, he wasn’t on free kicks and corners for us. Slightly frustrating that he goes to Villa and seemingly puts every free kick and corner into the perfect area when that’s been a problem area for us for years.

Anyway, I thought we were talking about whether Rashford has done well on loan so far. Matching Bruno for key passes, despite not having played a match for two months, would seem a good start. Wouldn’t you agree?

To be honest, he would never have performed like he is now if he had stayed. He’s motivated for a contract, like the last time he had a good season. It’ll be how he performs once they sign him permanently.

No I wouldn’t agree. Because the stats you’re clinging to are from a tiny sample of games in which almost 50% of the chances created by Rashford are from a cup game against lower league opposition.

And I don’t even know why I’m engaging with you about Rashford. Your ludicrous bias on the topic makes any discussion a waste of time.

Six key passes yesterday—proof once again of how underrated Rashford's playmaking ability is. I’ve said it before, when he has runners around him, like he did with Shaw in the past, he thrives. His vision and ability to pick out teammates often go unnoticed, but performances like yesterday make it clear.

Another strong display from Rashford.

Yes, nothing wrong with moving people on after such a long time in one plave. It lends perspective and give a fresh new beginning to start again. Wish all the best for our local lad is what i would normally say but this virus will be back half arsing and leaching the club again. Its all a show and he will revert to his usual self when the going gets tough again.
I get a lot of people are glad to see the back of Marcus - at least for now - and hope that United will move on. I feel the latter way. But how is he a `virus`? I know he drives some supporters mad the way he`s never been a Ryan Giggs or David Beckham doing his share of backtracking and showing effort til the last minute of the game.

However, the club was short sighted enough to give him that big contract too early - if he ever really deserved that kind of money - and it should be clearer now that Marcus has confidence issues. From what we know he was not disrespecting managers and didn`t have that kind of attitude problem. He wasn`t spreading dissent among the squad. It`s time for United to restructure and we have to get bolder attackers who get going when it`s tough.

Why would we need to pay the rest of his contract? He's the one who wants to play for someone else. As soon as he does that his utd contract won't exist.
Urgh...Do people ever learn?

I thought the Maguire to West Ham situation would educate people but clearly not: Footballers (like most other employees) do not take pay cuts. Rashford may claim a desire to move but he'll sit on the bench/in the stands/at home before taking less money.

See Casemiro too.

Because he'd rather get £45m+ over the next 3 years than anything less.

The accounts suggest we must have had some big payouts last summer too, or we recieved far less than the figures quoted in the media for the likes of Greenwood and McTominay.

Think Villa's style of play suits him better as well.

If we manage to sell him it's a pure profit and removing his big wages. Not ideal losing academy player and someone who's been around for so long but given circumstances it's best possible outcome.

I'd rather if he joined Barca but recent rumours suggest he'll sign for Villa so we'll see.

He played for 110 minutes in the games you mentioned and scored a narrowly offside goal

So 0 chances created in those 110 minutes and 10/13 of his chances came against a Championship side in the relegation zone and a PL side in the relegation zone and were playing with 10 men?

Gotta love PRashford and his PR team. Almost like he hasn't picked up his game since leaving, he's just playing more than he did for Amorim.

He actually scored more under Amorim in fewer minutes than he has scored at Villa. He played 220 min. under Amorim and scored 3 goals. He's played 285 min for Villa and hasn't scored.

Almost as if Amorim didn't bin him because of chance creating/goal scoring but because he was being a malcontent that ran to the press because he got dropped for the derby and said in his PRashford way he wanted to leave because the new manager was being hard on him.

I genuinely don’t want to reply to someone who is apparently an adult and types out the phrase PRashford.

This is so fecking embarrassing.

Seems very little middle ground in here.

A bunch who always have, and always will defend him to the hilt (irrespective of what he does/doesn't do) and a bunch who seemingly can't even get themselves to saying anything remotely neutral or positive about him without trying to shit on him (irrespective of what the stats/reality says).

Fact is we will probably struggle again in the summer to get him off our books. He’s not setting the world alight at Villa, albeit a few assists, he is again playing in a side that is currently better than us and a lot more stable.

Deals like his one have financially crippled us. No wonder fans are so resentful towards the likes of him and Sancho when they come out with the shite they do in the media, whilst their output is average on the pitch.

Glad he’s doing well at Villa because he will be more sellable in the summer.
Let’s never forget the lack of effort he put in his last few seasons at United and get him out of the door. The fact he’s playing well at Villa just highlights how much we need him gone. He can’t disrespect us playing for another team.

Assuming you are declaring a more sensible centrist position yourself here, I shall attempt to join you. I think Marcus is a very talented footballer who could yet be capable of performing exceptionally at the top level, who we are absolutely right to be forcing out of the club due to his severe application issues.

Yeah, sort of my position as well. Sort of disappointed/mini pissed off with him and his lack of effort/productivity during his latter years with us (not to mention his mega wage but that isn’t exactly all his fault, is it?) so I want him gone but also still wish he does well elsewhere (preferably in a different league etc). Also really want him to perform well at Villa as it’ll increase the chance of shifting him and getting a decent whack for him.

and yet it's true.

-Invited Henry Winters to a Christmas kid charity event so he could get the message out he wanted to leave
-Those pieces about how he was looking great in training, which was clearly done to make it look like Amorim had a vendetta against him not playing him
-Now the pieces coming out about him being "revitalized" and getting back into top form. When he had a couple of assists that came from some terrible Chelsea defending/keeping and a couple of decent performances against relegation fighting Cardiff and Ipswich.

I was a huge fan of Rashford and I believed he would bounce back strongly this season, but I was wrong. I don't know what's going on with him but it was right he left, and it's right he moves on to another club given his behaviour and issues.

Seemed the same Rashford we had here last night. Can provide moments of quality but it's mixed in with all the sub par stuff. Got an assist but missed an open goal. Kept doing that thing where he tries to slalom between multiple defenders and either gets tackled or forgets the ball. It's like watching a fading star that still believes he's got it and can't understand why he keeps failing to do the things he used to be able to.

I still regard him highly, because the good he did with the whole school dinners thing outweighs anything that might happen on a football field for me, but it's better all round that's he's left the club.

I think it's clear Rashford wanted a ''new challenge'' long before Amorim joined.

Rashford playing well for Villa and in turn winding up a number of sad, miserable Utd fans is great to see.
Silver linings....

Room for one more? I pretty much agree..

Another strong display from Rashford.

He had 25 key passes last season. Garnacho had 46 and posters on here say he doesnt see teammates and always goes alone. Garnacho had our 2nd most and then Dalot 3rd another who gets abuse. This is overall so the players playing every week have the advantage, but Rashford played a lot the same as the others. Its Eriksen and Amad who played less and per 90 mins would be in the mix

I think its far more the case that he is now able to show more a playmaking side to his game due to his current circumstances coming into a new team and needing to convince them he is worth a certain amount of money and due to the types of players he's now working with. Asensio is finishing his chances and like Rashford he's a more experienced and mature player than Hojlund and Garnacho who he was playing with before. Rogers and Ramsey both like to be played in and make good runs to be found, so he's found them at times as well. He also probably has a better idea of what he's being asked to do, not being asked to play as a #10 or doing a lot of tracking back so he can be fresh when on the attack.

Its funny because I remember in Rooney's first seasons here he was running all the way back to try and win the ball and there were managers who felt it was a waste and that he should save his energy and be ready in attacking areas for when the team get the ball. Now the feeling is the opposite way, that attacking players need to come back and defend or they arent very good.

That contract doomed him. I’ll forever believe that he’s another cost cutting measure to get his wages off the books, he’s one that can get us a decent transfer fee (unlike Casemiro) and getting his wages off the books will go towards the reset of establishing wage caps that we’ve sorely needed for awhile.

I definitely believe that if he was on sensible wages, he’d still be here and we’d be better for it. This is another example of a long list of our club being run by idiots and we suffer on the pitch for it.

Before that Denis Law was a similar player. He was everywhere on the pitch until Matt told him to play strictly in the opposition half of the field.

I think the cost cutting side of your argument is fair. There's also already some evidence to suggest we won't be going for big transfers anymore either as well as slashing wage bills and expenditure all across the club. Rashford and Sancho should have been the first out the door regardless. They have been embarrassing themselves and the club for a long time phoning it in. No manager could keep Rashford motivated for longer than a few months here and there. Let another club try and fail and pay him handsomly for the pleasure. It won't just be Ineos or Amorim coming in pushing him straight out. The long serving staff and the owners will all have an opinion on him and history dealing with him He's a celebrity now who plays football sometimes

We desperately need the money, I hope he gets an assist and a goal every game from now until the end of the season.

Fairness doesn’t come into this conversation, clearly.

No one doubt his ability, the problem is the application, or lack thereof

It’s a shame Villa won’t play Cardiff every week.

But on a human level I’m happy Rashford is having a few half decent performances.

I don’t think I’ve ever hated any footballer the way that a large number of supposed United fans utterly loathe Rashford. I just can’t comprehend that level hatred for someone who kicks a ball for a living.

Might be some truth to this. I think he's a very mediocre player for the wage he's on personally and maybe he wasn't carrying himself the way the manager liked in training but then I think of Antony situation and him not really getting much of a look in either under Amorim.

After being told on here this season was all about figuring out who could play in a 343, Amorim seemingly determined very quickly they couldn't cut it. That's a little suspicious to me. Nothing wrong with wanting to bring the wage bill more in line with revenue but I hope they aren't concocting stories to get people to turn on Rashford.

Wouldn't surprise me if they told Amorim from day 1 Rashford and Antony needed to go because we have attackers in their positions on lower wages.

It's what a lot of people do these days generally. Once an opinion is formed, there is no deviation. Just doubling down on it to the point it becomes hysterical when anything is brought up that even slightly challenges that opinion.

The amount of posters hoping our players, managers, tactics etc fail just to prove a point is disturbing.
