Just off the bench v Palace at 2-1 down.

Up to his old tricks with not closing down the cross for the third goal.

Poor from him (iv been impressed with him for Villa so far before i get hate).

Not a chance they take up the option on him
I read a bit of a Villa forum and the majority view seems to be they're really keen to keep him and seem to think the only issue is whether they can convince him to take up the permanent option.

EDIT - These are views from before tonight's game, I should probably add.

I’d be delighted if they did, but he’d instantly be their record signing wouldn’t he? He’d have to pick it up a bit between now and May to be worth it

Edit: just checked, second highest. Onana was £50m

Same. And yeah it seems hard to believe they'd do it without him becoming a nailed on starter, even if the fans and Emery like him.

I dont think tonight will change their opinion on him.

He only played 25 mins and Villa were absolutely pulled apart by Palace.

It could have been double the score if they werent so wasteful.

Rashford wasnt the worst on the pitch by any means.

They are for the most part keen to see more of him! These are the first few comments after tonight:

He's not signing next year for a midtable team with no European football.
Can't wait for him to reach full fitness so we can start him at the end of April when our season is over.

Play the guy for **** sake.
Meh

Rashford is overrated with a bad attitude
Maybe start the bloke we’re paying nearly 300 grand a week.

Sounds like he gets the mix of love / hate that he did here.

Its weird, he didnt stress himself to close down that cross that ended up a goal.

But 5 mins later he starts a move from his own box and busts a gut to get up the pitch and nearly creates a chance at the other end.

Its strange how he picks and chooses when to put in the effort.

When he broke into the team running back wasn't as requisite as it is now. It would have been about conserving energy to hit explosively on the break. Nowadays you need either energiser powered wingers or wingers with license to leave the defensive side because they are so potent in attack. Rashford is not the energiser bunny and he isn't being clinical enough to justify any licence to slack off defensively... Not yet.

Let's see what happens because it seems like Emery doesn't want him running back all game. If you wanted that why would you go for Rashford?

Now Rashford has to prove he's still that guy........ or maybe the Villa fans start digging him for not tracking back.

"Can't wait for him to reach full fitness"

Lols. Sorry Villa fans, that is the full extent of his fitness/work ethic, there's nothing more to come.

Unless the Villa owner or Emery is reading, in which case you're exactly right, it's Utd's fault and he is lacking fitness, once up to speed he'll be prime Mbappe again and a bargain at twice the £40m/£300k/week expense.

That’s a lot of attacking players though to be fair. Hate the defending part of the game but love attacking and getting goals. All about them self and not the team.

At 1:45 you can see a Villa player just strolling about... yeah that's him alright... aaaaand Palace score more or less because of that

Terrible as usual. In the game for not even 90 minutes and can't be bothered to run to stop the cross.

His problem isn't even running or tracking back in the goal above, he's already in position and applies no pressure when he has the chance twice in less than 3 seconds. This has nothing to do with conversing energy, it's just pure laziness and deciding not to bother whenever he wants.

Agree, this is standard Rashford

Exactly. I just watched it - he's like, "that's not my job".

This is a fully motivated Rashford as well, imagine when he gets into his 10th/11th game, he will be worse.

United fans have backed Rashford the most but when he does things like this, there is no excuse.

The minimum we expect is fight.

People here are more concerned with Rashford tracking back, than his actual output as a forward. We have had triers in our squad before(Lingard, Dan James), but that in itself is never enough. If Rashford was scoring 20G a season, no one would care if he was tracking back tbh. Emery is a good coach, so he will be focussed on bringing the best out of Rashford in front of goal, instead of trying to turn him into a JS Park or a touchline hugging winger.

And hopefully he does, so we can bin him for 40M+ and get in someone like Cunha.

To be fair if you are not motivated playing for United your boyhood club who put you on 300k+ wages and makes you the poster boy of the club. I wonder how you'll be able to give your all to Villa I mean no disrespect, yeah they may be doing better at the moment but that's as good as it may get and they're probably happy that way, what about his dreams of winning major trophies, he'll also probably earn less there if he signs permanently, less recognition and exposure and yet they're not even giving him the star treatment of always starting like he got under Ole and Ten Hag.
He had it good at United and didn't know that.

We saw the exact same in the Porto game earlier in the EL and in many other games during his time at Utd.

He either just doesn't know how to defend or he just can't be arsed.

He think he's in that category of players who shouldn't have to like Prime Ronaldo, Mbappe, Messi etc.
His idea of himself is quite cut off from reality.

Problem at Villa is they’re a generally very open team. This isn’t the Villa of last year, they’ve been bang average this season and being so open at the back means his lack of defensive effort will be more visible.
Just have to hope he can knock in a few goals and get people looking at him in the summer..
will give it a month before Villa fans grow tired of the ‘Rashpress’.

The desire to compete is gone. He needs a Rocky 3 turnaround montage and a Clubber Lang figure in his life to get the feck you energy back.

This is his problem. Hes a legend in his own mind. Those players have earned the right to behave that way by putting out insane numbers. Your manager might give you special treatment if you merit it on the pitch. There are always stories of players being a bit shit, a bit lazy etc in training in the past from teammates but thats always followed by "by come match day he was on it". You can't be lazy in training and lazy on the pitch unless you are absolutely banging them in.

Exactly the kind of half hearted press that he's been showing at United over the past couple of years. Might be that this is just the player he is now, and the lack of effort wasn't just down to the environment or manager at United.
