It's not hard to understand imo. We can all see it in our workplaces too. Some of the smartest, most talented people in any field don't simultaneously have the drive, or don't maintain it. Personally, in my little world, I probably have the capability to move into the top-level of management. But I'd rather see my family, not have to travel, enjoy life etc. I don't have that hunger, that single-minded determinism you need to reach and stay at the top.
I think it's entirely normal to imagine that's true for footballers too. If not easier, as they actually have to endure physical pain everyday.
With the kind of contracts that exist in football, it then comes down to management to motivate the workers, as they can't just walk away. I actually don't hate ETH the way most do, but will be the first to say he's not the right type of manager to work with someone like Rashford. You'd hope for someone like Fletcher or maybe even get SAF down for a quick meeting.
