Take away the obviously phenomenal 4months last season and take this season and the two seasons before and name me a single big club in Europe that he plays for. He has been awful 2.5 of the last 3 seasons and in the 5years before had 3 good spells also of about 4months, thats about a year and a half in eight seasons he has lived up to some degree to the hype.

And we are paying him £350k a week for 4months of quality and the manager has recently said the player is very much part of the future.

Its like the Pogba talk all over again for me. Yes Rashford has ability but he really should be on the transfer list this summer, you cant be good enough 20% of the time and diabolical 30% and sensational 10% and play for a top club.As great as he was for a while last season, apart from being on the pitch more often and being the English poster boy, he hasnt been much better than Martial who is just as talented.

He is actually a £40m player and we can probably get £70m+, its a no brainer that of course....isnt going to happen

He is an utter disgrace with his lack of application. Just stealing a living from the club as is the likes of Casemiro, Varane etc.

As long as we keep him as any kind of focal point of our team, we will never get back to where we belong. He should be benched and told that he will continue to be benched until he sorts himself out.

We should be looking to sell, pure profit

Like i stated 2 months ago, he needs to go not just for the sake of the club but for his own career. People forget he has been here 9 years already as a senior team player. He needs to rediscover some passion and hunger in his football because he has clearly lost it. He is still a good player and still produces regularly in big games where he can motivate himself. Against weaker opposition he can't seem to fire himself up. He needs to go.

How are we going to get rid of him?
No one will match his wages for what he delivers.
Based on his record over the last few seasons, no big team, not even PSG, will be remotely interested.
They don't spend big transfer fees to buy players on the back of patchy past golden spells.
Unless the player is on a free transfer, or being bought for a low sum and modest wages, I can't see any bids coming in..
Those teams will all have info on his performances and limitations and will know what sort of player he is.
This is a serious worry if the club decide to sell, or push Rashford out.

Don't pin any hopes on a new manager getting more out of him either.
Any improvement is bound to be short lived and he'd be back to his usual poor form in no time at all.

.

He’s not going anywhere, it’s a total bummer.

Pray to God we sign a LW/next year’s coach picks on merit.

Has more power at the club than the managers. I worry for the next one in the door

Manchester’s darling needs to be sold. Surely there is a cashed up mid-table European club that would take him on?

He's just physically not at the races. The pace and sharpness isn't there. His feet are slow and sloppy.

I know we all criticise his effort but I think the above is a much bigger problem.

That should be really worrying at his age. The club should be going nuts as to why this is. If he's training and living properly it means he's pretty much done at the top level. He's lost his athleticism.

i would say it goes hand in hand with effort.

This below is pathetic of a thread by one of his biggest apologists on X.

These amatuer X fans know nothing about football, all they come up with are just goals+assist stats from whoscored. They know nothing about tactics etc (how unfit rashford is with possession football and pressing) and they know nothing about logic ("past contributions" should not affect our football decision making for the future otherwise we will still be playing with rooney now).

Well he completely relies on his speed, so any loss to that is a big problem.

There was talk a few years ago that he could end up like Michael Owen and unfortunately I think we're seeing it. Looks like he's lost his sharpness in his mid 20s and is petrified of getting injured and so is permanently playing with the handbrake on.

This. All the trotting around is him not realizing that there’s no point saving energy because he’s lost the athleticism that gave him an edge when on the ball. His ball control is average. Only above average feature is his ball striking ability.

Beyond that, he’s done. And it doesn’t make sense at such a young age.

Or Robbie Fowler. Play an insane amount of games when you’re really young (possibly too much as your team relies that much on you, leading to playing through injuries) and then look finished by the time you’re 27.

He already is at a club like that and there arent any other mid-table European clubs with enough money to buy Rashford and pay his wages.

Sir Alex was always adamant that Liverpool ruined Owen and that it wouldn't have happened at United. I remember during that season we got 2nd place under Ole there was so much talk of Rashford playing through injuries and the year before that was the double fracture. Maybe in terms of physical stress it's all caught up with him.

How does he get through training every week?

I agree, although I don't think Varane (or, to a lesser extent, Casemiro) deserves to be lumped in with him.

As crazy as it sounds I'm convinced he'd perform in an England shirt. Probably best option on the left for Southgate. Watching him play for utd is painful. He's either got an agenda with the club or the manager

Oh trust me, effort is there for Varane but ability has dropped 2 notches below

He's just as crap for England. Nobody to blame but himself.

ETH made him his main guy last season and this season backed him to the hilt while in poor form. Rashford repays him by going on the piss and lying to him

Theyve just gave him an obscene contract for the next 5 years. You think they would do that if he wasnt physically able?
I didn't say he wasn't physically able. However, over the past 12 months we've seen a decline in Rashford's sharpness and willingness to run, which I think may be partly due to his fear of picking up another injury. We've heard Owen talk about how he would be petrified to make runs during a certain stage of his career.

My biggest issue with him is he’s a pretty brainless footballer.

For the amount of appearances he has for club and country, he shouldn’t be as one dimensional as he is. He’s literally just a left forward who can play with space for him to run in behind and shoot, he has no other ways to make himself effective on the pitch.

Other than during his purple patches he still has zero ability in the air, with his weaker foot, hold up play and putting a shift in for the team.

It’s honestly a travesty with his experience that he can’t play up front. Anyone with his height, build and speed should 100% be effective up front but he is just too thick to understand the role.

agreed and the thing about Rashford is his inexplicable insistence on running towards defenders as if he is trying to break through a brick wall only to lose possession. There is zero creativity in terms of finding alternative channels. Happens every time.

I keep asking myself if I'm noticing his lack of effort more this season due to reading more about it on here, or if I have always seen it but shrugged it off as he was at least productive in seasons past (ignoring that Ole/Rangnick season), but whatever it is, he must be the most impotent LW to play against when you deny him space in behind.

Several times in our recent games I'm seeing opportunities for him to get closer to the man on the ball (effectively provide another option for a quick interplay) allowing his FB to overlap him and stretch them out, but he's so static and would only run if there's enough space to contain a bus behind his marker. Maybe that is because he's realized his limitations I don't know. I do know though, that if we are to be a dominant team on the ball, the need for his skillset will be much more limited as we would need players better in tight spaces, and those willing to take the ball in difficult situation and not lose it.

Can we then justify his enormous wages? That is something the manager/DOF will have to decide.

I’ve been saying for awhile that he’s possibly the dumbest player we have. Constantly running into traffic, failing to have any understanding on how duels work or what you are supposed to do when the ball is in the air, having one trick - try and make space to shoot - which usually doesn’t work, and being absolutely hopeless at pressing.

When your supposed talisman’s are this bad you’re bound to fail. We should look to get him off the books, take the hit and sign a superior winger who isn’t as daft and will actually bother to run.

It's possible sometimes to go over the top with the criticism, but his wastefulness with the ball is probably the singular biggest reason behind us struggling to put the ball in the net and scored fewer goals than Everton.

He just eats up so many chances. 90% of teams in the league would struggle if they had one player squandering as many chances. We already struggle with possession. The fact we have to indulge Rashford inevitably failing to beat his man 25 times a match, after ignoring an infinite number of better options along the way, would be detrimental to even the most high performing of teams.

If any one of City, Liverpool or Arsenal had to indulge Rashford's selfishness, wastefulness and lack of footballing intelligence, they'd each be much further adrift of the title race than they are. Any team would.

Agreed and I think what upsets me the most is he used to be really smart and efficient when he broke through under LVG. His pressing and willingness to engage in duels was actually one of his better qualities. He also linked with other players well enough.

Rashford under LVG did the basics very well. He didn’t over complicate things the way the current version does.

He began changing under Jose but it was really Ole who spoiled him rotten in my opinion. I remember the split on opinions on him in the 2020/21 season. Rashford would be absolutely trash for 80-90% of the game and would come out with a goal or assist and those who criticised him would be ridiculed because of his stats. What we have today is just a more entitled version without the numbers, he definitely has to go.

Brainlessness combined with lack of effort is a pretty toxic cocktail.

The most worrying thing is not his limiatations, or loss of form or even a player being naturally unable to press.

What annoys me is the way he strolls on the field as if he is doing us a favour. It shows how far we have falling for a player of Rashford's talent to be the Main Man at club that have had Giggs,Beckham,Keane, Rooney,Scholes, Ronaldo etc.

I hope that Rashford will be called up for Euro, have a good performance then come back next season with a much better form than now. Not a big chance since Southgate may prefer Gordon and Grealish over him but if he pull up his game till end of this season then he might just edge out Gordon (due to his other role to be a 2nd back up striker).
