This, 100% this. People read and digest what these journalists write about every single day, and a whole heap of it is literally fiction, stuff that's been made up out of complete nothing, by PR teams and clever journalists, it's deceitful and in a broader view, is ruining journalism.

So he is struggling , because:

Back Injury - Well he has had an operation now, how long are we going to give him to recover and if he hasnt, then will he improve?
Stuggling to get over his penalty miss - Sterling isnt doing badly and Saka has been superb
Ole - Please, by far his best performances for us came under Ole

Personally even when e broke through scoring goals, I wasnt sure he was the real deal and never have done since. He is a talented player, but his decision making, weight of pass, consistency finishing, workrate, tracking back....its never been fantastic.

The positives in his game for me are his pace (whish seems to have dwindled), his temperament and calmness under pressure. being a local lad bought through the system, some of his tricks and his ability to shoot like Ronaldo (but woefully inconsistent with it). But that not enough to be a top player for me. He was overhyped as the future of English football and our club, was always twaddle and already several talented youngsters are already now way ahead of him in the England squad and we have them comign though within our own.

His performances have been woeful for some time and little more time for excuses

Most likely a combination of Rashford wanting do something big for charity whilst he was injured, and then utd and Rashford's social media team thinking of the PR aspect going all out and taking it to the next level. Whether it was genuine or PR or a bit of both but the school meals thing was a great cause and campaign that made a real difference and nobody could take that away from him.

But for me everything else he’s done since then has been to capitalise from good will/PR from that in order to benefit his own ‘brand’. I don’t see how launching his own clothing line, the GQ Awards, his book, Skype calls with Obama, his various commercial partnerships and endorsements or the range of products he’s launched since then off the back of that are as altruistic endeavours as the spin paints them out to be.

To the point where you feel bad for criticising him sometimes because the spin machine has been so successful that you start to believe that being Kevin the Carrot’s mate in the Aldi TV ad is something akin to such brave charity work as Diana going to the land mine fields.
