He's never been great in the middle has he?

He's not looked good from the left either of late, but it's certainly the position most likely to get him performing well.

I don't think he's cut out for this role just off Ronaldo. Cavani would be best, or Greenwood.

I feel like RR has just defaulted to playing him because of whatever appraisal the coaches have given on players, and he's a big player. But I'm pretty sure he'll get sick of this.

This is the thing though, awful in the middle, can't play on the right apparently. Inconsistent on the left too as it goes.

To be honest I'm bored of the suggestion there's anything much about this player who is only affective sometimes, in certain conditions, playing against certain types of opponents, on certain patches of grass on certain days injuries and weather permitting when he can be bothered to look like he gives a shit

These are the kind of excuses you can expect to make for a complete rookie just feeling his way into the game still at the 'falls over his own feet, has spots' stage of development or an ageing injury-ravaged legend whose appearances need to be meticulously managed out of necessity.

This isn't what you expect from a 25 year old with his level of experience and I'm done with the amateur performances.

Also why was he starting instead of Greenwood. I'll definitely defer to RR's judgement as he obviously knows what he's doing but I find that one hard to understand.
Greenwood played in midweek, full 90 I think. Rangnick also has no frame of reference for how unsuitable Rashford may or may not be in a possession system. It will be trial and error before he finds his first choice attackers. If he gives Rashford the same role next game we might have a problem. Probably shouldnt even start.

Would have to assume Greenwood isnt fit enough to start two games with so little turn around quite yet. Hopefully he gets up to speed soon and its Rashford who becomes the sub.

Who is this aimed at? Literally everyone has agreed he needs/needed benching but Sancho played 60 minutes too and did the square root of feck all... Being the tidiest out of that shite show doesn't mean much when for huge portions of the game he was anonymous.

Hopefully Masons fit enough to start soon, Rashford's not good enough atm to be starting. Bruno too but guess we'll save that for his thread.

I mean I read multiple posters saying something along those lines earlier in this thread. Agree him and Bruno need to be sat. Also wasn’t saying Sancho had some great game, just that I feel a decent portion of our fan base values the wrong things in players just because of our flying wingers of old. Especially with how direct RR is trying to get us to play, having a player give the ball away constantly through poor decisions and technique can’t be tolerated just because he has great pace or can be explosive (personally I still think he isn’t as explosive as he was before the back injury and he might never be).

I don't understand why he starts for us. He consistently breaks down our attacks. The guy is completely out of form and has been for a long time now.

His attitude and body language gives me the impression that he's sick of football and just wants to go feed starving kids full time. Sasche Lense needs a lot of one-on-one time with him.

It’s odd. Whilst he had a bad game, he was still easily our most dangerous attacker. Both Sancho and Greenwood were essentially non-existent. Hope he can find his old form again as he’s the potential x-factor in this team.

He needs to retire then. First and foremost he is a footballer and paid a ton of money. Good that he wants to feed kids, but its not his job. You can do all the good charity in the world but if you put shit performance in your job day in day out you will be fired in any other field. His outside venture has make him lose focus on the pitch.

Correct. I thought he was alright last night, better than what we've been seeing from him lately at the very least, but for his final ball.

Needs to be dropped.

Problem with him has always been his low is way too low.

Greenwood / Cavani need to take his starting spot.

Sad part is his workrate doesnt seem to be improving even under Rangnick.

His workrate is biggest concern. Seems like his back issue has stopped him from giving 100%. Lets hope that isnt the case and its just attitude issue because the former will be quite a difficult thing to overcome.

Wasn't even the workrate yesterday. It was the constant back pasing in the first half . It was like five in a row at one point I think.

He is obviously suffering from a lack of coaching these last few years,as are many. His head seems to be in a different place. If the Barcelona interest is genuine we should engineer a straight swap with Frenkie

Seems I am one of a few who saw positive signs. Beat his man a few times and looked for the pass, if he keeps working on his delivery and decision making he will be fine. Also pressed with energy a few times.

Of course we expect more from him but in my opinion he and Sancho were better than Ronaldo and Bruno, who I personally would bench for Greenwood and Donny for the next game.

He looks like he has forgotten how to play football. And we all see his half hearted, "for the show" attempts to press an opposition player. When Martial and Rashford emerged, I always maintained that Rashford will eventually turn out to be a better servant for United due to his work rate and desire. Both of those qualities have now long stranded him.

He did have moments of quality in the game; it's just his weight and direction of pass was nearly always awry and he couldn't feed Ronaldo, who, like any striker, would have been exasperated at repeatedly missing out on goal scoring opportunities.

I felt on balance RR was right to keep him on. He was causing one or two problems on the left and did fare better in the second half. If he had had a bit of luck, then it would have been a masterstroke.

It's still not really enough but there's reason to be hopeful he's coming back into form.

He is such a curious footballer IMO. Has all the attributes you would want in a top player, but is consistenly average for the most parts.

I still think, given the right coaching and him actually wanting to learn, there’s a player in there; the current version of him though is best suited to a super sub role and not a starter.

Hope he figures it out, but won’t be shocked if he doesn’t.

This! Out of Ronaldo, Sancho & Bruno it was Rashford that was by FAR most dangerous in attack. I feeling like he slowly finding his feet again after a long lay off. The big elephant in the room is Ronaldo not Rashford.

But but but he's injured

It shows that you know absolutely nothing about science of health if you don't understand how the spine and back injuries effect a players movement.

I'm not saying this is his only cause towards poor form -

But trust me, I studied Musculoskeletal Science at UCL and back injuries are fecked up for a normal human being, never mind a professional football player.

Agreed.

I can't understand all the harsh comments threw at him. It's like they watched a different match tbh. Rashford was actually the only one managed to make the Norwich defenders' life difficult.

Yeah, he is a threat. Created very good chance for Ronaldo when he got the ball in own half. Apart from that, he looked confused in final third, taking too much time assessing multiple options, messing up attacks.

Good to see his pressing improving, only Bruno and Fred pressed more than him.

Hopefully he will be on the bench next game, Greenwood deserves to start.

Maybe because he keep fecking up simple passes, passing backwards, running and dribbling to blind alleys ?

The guarantee of a place always brings a certain degree of relaxation. Not everyone is a Ronaldo or Messi who can be consistent all the time.

If we are playing 4-2-2-2 then I hope greenwood and Ronaldo will play up front next game

Maybe that's because he isn't a striker?

What about Sancho?

People loving his performance, calling it the best out of 4 and when you ask him what he had done in the match - it's them saying that he didnt give the ball away

Hardly made a pass either tbh.

Tbf which one of our front 4 yesterday didn't?

I can't post media but try to watch a highlights of the last match and you'd see in the second half literally any threat we managed to make came from him, minus the pen of course.

I can't get the comments calling him lazy either. He ranked third in the pressing only behind Fred and Bruno. Made the most successful dribbles (4/4) where the second best was Fred (2/2). Made the most xA (0.6) where the second best was 0.1.

He's been poor for a while now. His decision making needs to improve drastically.

Thing is...

He is very experienced, he has played as an attacking player for 5 years. He has like a total of 60 premier league goals. Many of them penalties.

Thing is, maybe he just isnt that good to begin with? Maybe he never was either. There are tons of players having good months. (Like Rashford) We had attacking issues for years.

Just maybe Rashford and Martial never was good enugh? Id like to see more of Cavani with Ronaldo. Switching with Greenwood when needed.

To me, Rasford and Martial has never convinced me as an Elite (United level) attacker. That needs consistency.

SAF would have never let him get distracted by politics. He didn't tolerate Beckham's distractions and even he has done wonders for UNICEF after a great and long career. Rashford seems to want to skip the being a footballer part.

Playing poorly and not in good form at all. I can’t understand so many fans writing him off though, he’ll come good again I’m sure of it.

Im not sure you’re right and we’ll never know, but if SAF had discouraged the work he’s done over the past 12-18 months, he’d have been wrong.

On the pitch he’s not a likeable player at all. Barely shows any effort. Is selfish. Sulks all the time and constantly makes the wrong decisions. He’s been in the first team for over 5 years, and he’s barely improved. Yes he scored a lot of goals on the counter attack but he’s a liability when it comes to pressing, tracking back or playing against a team sitting deep. Needs dropped, or sold, or given a reality check. Certainly didn’t get that from the previous management. Laziest player in the squad.

Xavi wouldn’t go near him
