Poor showing from Rashford. Did not work hard enough, run into blind alleys. Hopefully, he will improve a level or two under the new manager. He either turns into a highly accurate laser guided rocket or remains a misfiring slingshot that he has been thus far. It is up to him.

O
@Pogue Mahone I don't know if you're on a windup or if I'm going mad. He genuinely looks offside

Edit - Because that slideshow is annoying... I think he's mostly in front of the ball, even with the grass lines.

Close but I think Rashy is just ahead of the ball. Probably would get called in line.

Literally way ahead of the ball here.

Behind the ball in this, 1-0 to Pogue

Foot looks ahead of the line and the ball definitely isn't, the grass line shows this quite clearly.

Rashy's foot is on the line but argubly his tippy toe is just over it. I think the ball is more behind but it's a tight call.
Off in all but one of those. I think Mendy positioned himself well to make the pass not seem like a great option which helped us as it would have been offside anyway.

I really love Rashford but of late I've been getting worried. When he came back from injury in that loss to Leicester, he came on and looked sharp and frightening. Even the Atalanta home match he was a little wasteful in the first half but still looked frighteningly sharp and speedy overall.

Of late he looks to be off the boil again, he is 24 turns 25 next year he has to pull his game together. The "potential" word is vaporising - I do believe he can be a world level player. Or he can simply be a PL level player it really is up to him. He has all the tools and skillset to be one of the best his heart certainly is in the right place can't fault him for that. It's whether his mind is, not sure if he's obsessed with it like some of his peers are elsewhere in world football.

Of course it matters where the ball is! If he never gets ahead of the ball he can never be offside. And he was never ahead of the ball.

He was ahead of the ball every time Sancho took a touch, because he was always ahead of Sancho, you can see it from all the images posted in here.

Another weird thing with him lately is his reluctance to use his pace. He got marginally past Chelsea's back line a couple of times yesterday then turned back instead of pushing on. If he's not going to use his pace, he's a very limited footballer otherwise.

As others have said...Quite astonishing that he couldnt get himself onside throughout Sanchos run on goal. Footballing IQ of an idiot.

Not only that, he didnt have the intelligence to move 5 metres wider to give goalie no chance and Sancho every chance. If Jadon had missed that, I would be 100% blaming Rashford. Absolutely stupid, from the second they broke through I was screaming at him to get behind the ball and open the gap wider between them. He needs a shit ton of coaching and a serious wake up call. He cant be considered a kid with potential anymore.

I miss the Rashford that was a poor man's 2007 Ronaldo, this poor man's 2021 Ronaldo is not it

Don’t know what has happened to him. Last season I gave him the benefit of the doubt due to injuries etc, but he still looks lazy and uninterested out there. Very poor game, epitomised by the offside running for Sanchos goal.

Needs to kick on and get his mojo back or I can see him being dropped a-la Martial. It’s not like we don’t have other options for his position.

Rashford used to the the kind of player that even on his bad day he is going to make you earn your money when you come up against him, that changed after he broke his back, at the moment he doesn't have the same intensity. Fitness has always been a big part of his game and at the moment he isn't anywhere close to his level.

He annoys me these days. Doesn’t work hard, still the same crap decision making (as someone pointed out, he wasn’t even keeping himself onside when Sancho was through), dribbles into blind alleys etc.

But he does a good talk on social media so it’s fine.

People actually think Martial is the laziest player in the team. Need to stop using injuries to excuse poor form, Maguire and Rashford are the 2 players that always seem to get these excuses yet on the pitch for a good while now they’ve struggled. He is quick enough when he has an acre of space to run into so I’m not buying that he’s not fit. The fullback has no support whenever he is playing in front.

Lovely guy, average player.

He’s never rated higher than when he’s injured.
Thank you for your contribution.
Unfortunately for you even when he's playing injured he still scores 20 goals and gets 14 assists too.

Rashford will be vital in these big games coming up. He's a big game player.

You're welcome to read the comments then and now.

Rashford is the guy in more need of a coaching/philosophy change than anyone else. Even with his stats improving under Ole I felt he was bad way more often than he was good.

He was working a little more yesterday, especially early on and will need to add that nuisance factor to his game consistently. His skills on the ball are just nowhere near consistent enough to justify any sort of laziness. He needs to use his pace and energy to the full of their abilities. He's a good kid so he should be receptive to being coached up - Ole was absolutely poisonous for him.

I dont remember what was that about and when was it even.
Agree about the coached up part.

That's a regular thing for Rashford. With or without the ball.

No support from the team in the attack, him and Sancho left to take on the Chelsea defense more or less on their own and there is criticism?

Was Rashford always this lazy? That’s the most striking thing about his game these days. Running into blind alleys, always being offside, these were facets of his game that were there since he broke through, and fair enough he hasn’t had a proper coach to help him work on those since then. However, I seem to remember he used to be very aggressive and hard working. Is that the case and that has changed, or am I just remembering things incorrectly?

He used to dribble a ball out for a throw in completely unchallenged at least once a game.

His finishing can be very good but his ball control at speed is his weakness. It was definitely good for Utd that it was Sancho who was first to the ball for the goal- I sometimes think Rashford is one of those players who does best when he has no time to think and is just instinctive.

If the new interim boss is going to impose his favoured high press, high intensity style, then Rashford is going to have to shake himself awake or his selection opportunities could be limited.

On goal scoring alone, although he missed the first 7 games, with a third of the season already gone, he'll have to go some to add to his 2 PL goals so far.
Will he match the 11 league goals he scored last season?

I'm with you on both counts. He needed to get wider and more clearly trail the ball so that Sancho could be certain he was onside. He ended up still valuable as a decoy but didn't help maximize the chances of a goal in that situation.

Does anyone know where I can find Rashford's pressing stats vs Chelsea?

my brain would have exploded if Sancho had passed to Rashford and got flagged for offside. thought he was better in the 2nd half. I have heard that Rangnick wants quick scoring/attacking football in possession so lets see if he can coach Rashford to be more decisive with the ball.

Here. Under 'Defensive Actions'. Not good, not bad.

I was a bit surprised to see so much criticism for his work-rate yesterday. He didn't track back much, but that's standard over the last couple of years, but he did press a bit more than usual. Weirdly 11 of his 12 pressures came in the first 32 minutes...so he started strong then just stopped working.

I mean this is what I wanted to check out too. He didn't seem that bad pressing to me. And I was wondering if I had seen something different.

If I read the stats right (first time on that site) he pressed 5th best out of our 11 players. Has a single tackle interception and block more than Sancho and the other forwards that entered the pitch the whole game.

I saw him take some breaks once in a while and waiting - but this was mostly as the furthest forward in his own half when the whole team was sitting deeper trying to park the bus against Chelsea.

What I saw him not do is track back which I agree with.

I don't know what to think of that because he was only sort of forward in the whole starting 11 (no inverted forwards, no predatory striker, Bruno wasn't exactly playing like a false 9 yesterday with how deep he was and arguably a RW sided version of Sancho next to him).

Rashford is another player who needs a reboot. We can all see the physical specimen that he is, but his maturity hasn't yet caught up to his athleticism.

You are definitely right. His workrate and willingness to chase the opposition down was a highlight of his game early on. It slowly declined, then from the start of the 19/20 season it noticeably dropped significantly but he was otherwise in the form of his career so it was largely overlooked. Then he got that back injury midway through that season, his workrate dropped even further, and his form has never really recovered to somewhat hide it.

i sometimes, no most of the times, feel he doesn’t give his best. I know he can be better than this, but he’s recently lacked the passion.

I’ve been one of his biggest critics but looking forward to seeing how he gets on under Wreck It Ralph. Hoping for a new manager bounce.

No excuses, he was not good today.
I agree for a long time that he has to up his workrate. Especially now under Rangnick. Otherwise he will only have himself to blame for sitting on the bench more than he would want.

Will be interesting to see how he performs under Rangnick.
 Didn't realize I was a part of Rashford Apologists Inc. I tend to take a more balanced view on things. On Rashford, my main issue with him is he makes the worst decisions of all the forwards currently in the first team and that really needs to change. Prime example was the goal we scored, he for some inexplicable reason, decided to run ahead if the ball the entire way, not making himself a viable pass option. Had Sancho not felt confident enough to score or had the goal keeper commited fully to Sancho, that would have been chalked off for offside. Hopefully Ragnick sorts him out.

He started as a very good player who was committed but then the pundits and newspapers put him on a pedestal. Then came his off the field programs which is extremely commendable and full kudos to him. He was compared to Wayne, Rooney, Ronaldo, Giggs etc. He was never even close to them. They worked extremely hard to get there. Then Ole indulged in him and always my Rashy plays.
If he does not work the way Ralf wants it he is going to be dropped and the British pundits would jump up.

I'm not disagreeing with you but why do people and pundits complain about the coaching level at our club then blame the players for being shit due to their lifestyle?

I mean I look at Greenwood- the guy is the same player that broke when he first did, maybe just maybe getting more accustomed to a position he wasn't first playing and that's really it.

Do you think it's Greenwood’s lifestyle and mentality that did this - or could it be the coaching?

People talk about players regressing in 2-3 years just of joining us - I tend to not forget that aspect of people's complaints to be honest.

Yeah, no idea why anyone would convince themself he was “always offside”. Are they aware it’s being behind the ball that matters?

I think that's the point. People say Rashford don't understand the rule but it's them who don't get it.

This guy is fast turning into Pogba 2.0. I want them both gone in the summer.

Thanksgiving hangover?
People used to say similar stuff after reading something against Ole. Martial, Rashford, Pogba have hit the cieling at United. No amount of coaching or change of manager can revive their form for United. They simply don’t have the right attitude. All of them along with Maguire need to be sold.
