He's still so raw and unpolished. He could be a superstar with the right tactical coaching.

He has off days when he can't finish to save his life, and his decision making while dribbling is questionable, but he's got loads of potential lying untapped.

His mentality and attitude impress me the most. At 22, he's a local lad carrying the main attacking burden of the biggest club in England with poor service behind him. He doesn't hide, he doesn't stop believing in himself, he doesn't let excuses how him back, plays through injury, is a big game player who has a stellar record against the top 6 and gives it all on the pitch every single time.

Faster to 50 club goals than CR7 and, despite our poor results, is the leading scorer+assister this season.

Definitely my favourite player at the club right now.

If theres anything you cant take away from him its this. I hate the word mentality and how we use it but with rashford he is the embodiment of a strong mentality. he just needs better guidance on what to do with the ball which Im 100% he doesn't get enough off. Also need to surround him with better teammates to get the best out of his abilities.

I couldn't agree more. His ability is actually amazing, with time, experience and guidance like you said, it will all click.
We need to be patient with him, it will be worth it.

My point was about the stick he is getting this season.

Not to take the piss but have you not seen much youth develop? Many on here didn't want Gareth Bale from Spurs because they thought he was way too inconsistent at a young age. The less we say on Raheem Sterling the better, (Just read this thread on him a matter of 2 years ago and it was probably justified with the sitters he was missing)

I see many parallels with Rashford that I did with Bale and Sterling. This is pretty common with most of the youth that develop into top players and it's the hardest part. I'm not worried about Rashford because he has that level of intensity in a game required, he's fearless and has the work ethic to make it click. I still don't understand this bias around not to back him. For me it's inevitable that he's going to make it into a top player, having a world class team would have aided his development i.e. being at City but nonetheless, he'll get there.

I didn't see that much of Bale in similar years but I did see a fair amount of Sterling. With Sterling. I actually never had any doubts about his quality. He was always able to receive the ball in tight spaces and the ball looked glued to his foot. His dribbling has in general always been very good. His finishing has always been weak though, I'd say it's still weak now. But the chances he often gets on the end of now are tap ins and with the rest he seems to be getting 100% out of his limited shot as he doesn't have a powerful one. Rashford on the other hand has a nuclear missile in him that has been shown a few times; England goal vs Croatia, free kick against chelsea, celta vigo, various other times but can't remember opponent.

No, Rashford's problem has definitely been temperament/attitude. Like I said you see other talented young players; Abraham, Greenwood, Hudson Odoi, Mount etc and I rarely if ever think 'that was a very dumb decision'. Whereas Rashford it seemed like 6/10 dumb decisions made every time he got the ball last season. Mourinho whether you love him or hate him called it when Sanchez first joined and he played a pass in his first game and Mourinho said in post match 'that is the kind of decision a player with maturity makes and you would not find a player like Rashford making that pass'. Have your opinions on Mourinho, but he knows a thing or two about football and imo he was completely right. From the strops due to a bad pass, to taking pot shots at 40 yards when chasing a game and have two other attackers running into space against two defenders, to the terrible lapses in concentration and bad times to pick a dribble, there is so much evidence that points to this as the factor that has affected Rashford's performances.

Look, I'm delighted that he's playing so well again now. He was my favourite player when he first showed up on the scene. Moreover he just looks like he's making team decisions now. That pick-out of Greenwood last night was just sublime. The commentary guy said that he was trying to pick out Mata but he wasn't, was looking at Greenwood. However, last season he runs with that into a sea of Partizan legs.

This point would have been reached sooner imo with better management. Fergie would have hairdryered the sh*t out of him last season without waiting for f*cking twitter to do it. I hope Rashford kicks on now and continues being this team version of a player because then the sky's the limit.

That's my opinion and I'm taking it to the f*cking grave

Would be a huge boost for him and us if he can break through the 20 goal barrier this season

Didn't look like it deflected when watching replays. Shame he didn't get the assist.
This is funny because Greenwood was given the assist for Martial's goal.

Whoever decides what constitute an assist must have been dozing off or something because Greenwood's block get given but Rashford's pass doesn't even if it was initially intended to go to Mata.

Yeah, instead of just acting like machines, people should think. Greenwood shouldn't get assist and Rashford should get even if it's a deflected pass. He did all the work.

HUGE.

We aren’t winning anything so he & Martial hitting the 20 goal mark would be huge.
Hopefully he does it by January. I mean he realistically can pull it off given that he also takes penalties and we seem to win them a lot due to fast players like James. He's on 8 goals right now, seems doable to stack up that number by January he he stays even just a tiny bit consistent.

He'd have to score 1 goal a game, we've got 12 games left in 2019. It could be done but he'd have to hit a very very good run of form. Though there are 4 more games in January so maybe by the end of January he could reach it? We'd be against Spurs, City, Arsenal and Liverpool in that time frame so maybe his record against top clubs will help him out :D

Look at that state of that banner at the top.

Just turned 22 years old with 8 goals and 2 assists (3 according to PL site) in 16 games.

Average rating: 5.1 :nono:

Good post to be honest. I disagree on his general attitude, as far as I know and what many managers have said i.e. Mourinho, Solskjaer, Van Gaal he is one of the most hard working players and best trainers in the team, I think it's clear he has a desire to improve and he never hides in games. Temperament I think is a different matter, he does not have that level of composure that we are already seeing from Greenwood, and even since 2016 when he just broke into the team.

It's a shame because I think in a better team like an old school United team, Scholes, Keane and Giggs would kick the bad parts of his game out and kick him into a player. He's not aided by the lack of service around him and naturally bad habits do pick up. But play him with a good player like Martial, suddenly he looks a lot crisper. He's never been good on his own.

Regardless of yours and my opinions, I agree let's hope he really kicks on from here.

Missed a couple of really good chances but he took the goal well and his link-up with Martial was causing them all kinds of problems and is something we can hopefully build on.

Didn't realise he has already scored 8 this season and we are in November only. 20 should be attainable but he blows hot and cold and when he is out of form he literally stops scoring. I think he needs to start scoring the simple goals and can improve his stats.

His performances since Martial has returned have shown the difference between him playing up front versus playing in the inside forward position with license to roam.

Rashford is definitely not a 'back-to-goal' player and it's a waste playing him like that. A top RW player and Pogba occupying the position Pereira has been playing and we may have the makings of something. Another top CM and we're nearly there. How often have we said that though? Big summer coming up, and possibly even in the January window.

The International break was so needed, we looked bereft of ideas before it, especially Rashford. He looks a completely different player now. Hopefully we can see this level of performance consistently.

Been saying since last year, but I track his development to get around 23 goals this season, then from next year we are looking a 35 goal man. Still putting his game together, but soon the free-kicks will start going in more, the long range shots going in more, and when the goals start coming, it just makes you hungrier to get them.

He’ll get there because he’s absolutely determined to succeed.

By reading some of the posts here, you'd think he's having a Lingard level goal scoring drought.

Up until the Liverpool game he was mostly a detriment to the team.

Goal and assist numbers give no context, and him being 22 years old is not relevant when grading performances.

Man Utd 3:1 Brighton
Really shame for the misses. Another great performance. Imagine if he improves his finishing, he could have got a hattrick today easily.

The boy has huge potential if he starts banging the simple chances too. If we keep on playing like this he will easily hit 20 plus.

Needs to be finishing those chances. He's missed about 7 great chances in the last two games.

He needs to spend time with Kane whilst he's away on international duty he will teach him a thing or two. He needs to learn to be more clinical, other than that he had a good game.

Played great but should have scored more obviously. Constantly a threat to them. People will still moan at him.

Be more efficient with the finishing and He will lead our forward line for years to come.

I don't think it is easy to achieve mind you.

Superb on the eye, today looked more like a winger magician rather than classic goal poacher.

He got so many different things in his locker, it's hard not to think of him as overall a versatile baller.

Should of have a hattrick today.

He should have scored about 6 goals more this season. Then there is the two missed penalties.

Was very good today, borderline great if it weren't for those misses. He needs to get rid of his tunnel vision though.

He is so so dangerous, but so so greedy  Was pissed he didnt pull it back for that chance just before he went off

His finishing can be disgraceful though, yet he manages to finish his hardest chance

Grade A for energy and intent
Grade D for finishing

But I can see clear improvement this season. If he could improve his finishing, he’ll become a beast.

Worth pursuing

When it comes to the open goal miss, there is nothing Kane can teach there tbh. However there was another chance when Martial put him through and he put it wide with his left, a natural goalscorer can help him in a situation like that

He ranges from unstoppable to championship 2 standards within minutes.

when he’s confident and in the mood he’s a nightmare, just needs to work on that end product. Seems to only score great goals, not the easy ones. Just needs to slow it down a tad, have a breathe.

Yet his hardest chance today was an open goal

Hot and cold, got the goal but couldve had a hat trick. Then he does this..

That elastico gave me the shivers, what a move! Rashford may miss some serious chances, but stuff like that is why I love football. If Martial, Rashford and James play like that and the midfield stays consistent, we will score more and with experience, the easy chances will be converted more often.
