It did get a bit annoying hearing Neville saying Rashford's been carrying a knock again. He's been saying that for ages. He's just in terrible form and for whatever reason, he has totally forgotten the #9 qualities that made him a decent prospect in the first place.

He is not as bad as he looks though. But yeah that contract was staggering incompetence and so many of us called it at the time but basically got shouted down and personally insulted.

Welbeck MK2

I have never seen him as talented, not even when he came onto the scene. It looked like he had good movement at first, but his technique was and is lacking for premier league standards.

Now he has even lost his movement. I wish his fans could articulate exactly what he is talented at.

He has a decent shot only off his right foot when he has plenty of time and space, and pace. That's literally it. Nothing else.

Sounds like championship level talent to me.

He looked good previously as a player who would burst past the opposition at speed and get into dangerous positions.

I don’t know what kind of player he is now. He offers nothing.

He never tries to go in front of his marker. Just waits for the ball to materialize at his feet. Terrible CF play.

Welbeck at least gets into positions to miss sitters.

He's a kick and run footballer, there's no intelligence to his game, but we've known that for a while now, so the mind boggles why Ole went into the season relying on him.

3 goals from open play in 26 games.

The situation with Rashford reminds me a bit of those breakout attackers you see at Italian clubs, usually Inter or AC Milan, who do really well for a season or two before falling off a cliff.

Obafemi Martins
Jeremy Menez
El Shaarawy
Stevan Jovetic
Valeri Bojinov
Victor Obinna
Mario Balotelli
Antonio Cassano
Moise Kean (possibly)

I hope this is a superficial comparison but something about Rashford just looks broken right now.

We tried to buy a CF but "could not get it over the line in time". So Woodward fail...

That's a very poor return for what he is paid. I know he plays on the wing mostly, but I don't see him assisting much either.

Forget form, position, system etc. He is fecking shit. End of. Has 0 qualities bar pace. Shite dribbling, shite finishing, shite heading, shite movement, shite decision making, shite passing and shite mentality. He can just run fast and came through the academy. In a game like today where there's not much space for him to exploit he is completely and utterly useless.

Whichever clown sanctioned off his 200k a week/5 year contract deserves to be fired immediately. It's a bloody joke.

He needs a rest. He needs to work on his movement, but I do think that you are all being a bit harsh on him considering our complete lack of creativity at the moment. I think a confident Rashford would be doing similar things to Abraham if he was in that Chelsea squad- and similarly Abraham would struggle if he was our lone striker.

It's good to see there are still some like Neville who will use any excuse to not criticize him. If Rashford is playing hurt, then bench him. Even if there's nothing to replace him with, he's making things worse by being an invisible player. It's not as if he's setting the world on fire when healthy anyways but at least you don't risk making his recovery longer, besides he could do with a message on his form in recent times by watching from the sidelines.

He was never as good as people claimed. The Welbeck comparisons were mocked even though they were not far from the truth.

Very average player. Needs to spend 2 weeks watching Van Nistelrooy goals and then another 2 weeks watching a re run of it followed by 3 months of training.

why the hell he always go behind the defender, how he is expecting ball comes to him when defender is ahead of him.
such a useless player.

Rashford is all hype, because he's english. His stats show he only scores 1 goal every 4 games. Supposedly lesser strikers like Callum Wilson (Bournemouth) or Chris Wood (Burnley) manage 1 in 3. The very top strikers score at least 1 every 2 games.

He's a young player, who is massively out of form and struggling for confidence however, because of our clubs incompetencies, he's having to try and play his way into form and it's not doing him any good.

Cassano was infinitely more talented than any of those players. Jovetic's issue were injuries which derailed his career. Balotelli's issues are more mental than anything.

I don't understand his static play.

Even if (by some miracle) the ball came to him at his feet in the pen area, he can't shoot unless he takes 2 or 3 touches, since he has no momentum. By then defenders would be all over him like a rash.

What kind of striker plays like that?!

I'm here again to say the exact same thing I say in this thread after every game and will continue to say after every game.

£250k a week.

Marcus Rashford is a fraud. He's a better version of Danny Welbeck, just about.

Welbeck MK2

Welbeck was useful.

He seemingly knew his limits initially, but i think his nauseating friendship with ‘JLingz’ has destroyed any humility he had, along with the huge, unjust salary; Lingard has ultimately dragged him into the abyss of obscurity with him.

I feel like his runs in behind are really low percentage play and just encourage the midfield to loft the ball straight to the opposing CBs or GK. It's such a basic and crap strategy to attack with.

Good to see there are still so many like you who are incapable of actually listening to what Neville says.

Convenient of you to skip the part where Gary said Rashford shouldn't be playing. Said in a proper set up he'd be dropped right now to recover and get over his bad form but our squad is so fecked we have no other option.

Convenient of you to skip where Neville criticized Rashford on every ball into the box. Criticized his positioning and movement in the box and not attacking any of the crosses.

But yea, obviously if you don't count all the times he criticizes him then he never criticizes him.

Fair enough, I have to admit I've tuned out Neville long ago whenever it comes to United and was just going by what other posters have said of his comments today about him needing a rest, without any more to it than that. The thing is, he has been incredibly inconsistent in his criticism of players, especially when they come from the academy. If you say he said all those things, then that's progress but when I've listened to his analysis in the past, he's made a lot of excuses for Rashford he wouldn't make for other players.

I would strip the 10 from him if I were Ole.

19 is his number until he proves otherwise.

You don't.

Key moment for me was that Dalot cross that resulted in our only chance of the match. Mata makes a near post run, opens up the middle of the box. Pereira is running to the far post where the ball was eventually cleared. Rashford isn't even inside the box.

He's shockingly bad and not even making the CB's work for it like Lukaku did during his poor patches.

This is what drives me insane.
He is a professional footballer getting paid 200k a week playing as Manchester United's main striker and he won't bust his balls to get into the box for a cross??

If our lone striker isn't in the box who does he think will be there?

No injury problem or confidence problem stops you from running into the six yard box for a cross

Giving him the number 10 was another clusterfeck idea from the club that did but inflated his ego more and more. We keep rewarding terrible players by big contracts and important numbers while we're crap on the pitch. It's logical why they'll stop even caring at one point.

I don't think that effort is his problem at all, he just has no instinct for making the correct runs into the box. He's such a simple minded player and it's not going to be easily improved I'm afraid. Basically he should absolutely not be the focal point of our attack. He really needs to very good forwards with him to be effective.

He never earned that contract nor that shirt. He never really showed enough ability to justify the hype. Weirdos just thought they can will him into becoming CR7 mark two just because he's English, came out of our academy and scored a handful of goals in his debut season. Remember that fella who had a similar trajectory at City? Binned ruthlessly and quickly in favour of another young but genuinely talented striker. That's what clubs who are serious about winning do. But that would cost actual money and we can't have that at Manchester "Cash Cow" United.

Gotta love all those blaming Ole for sticking with him though. While they're not technically wrong, as Ole more or less did make up his bed with how he treated Lukaku in favor of Rashy™, let's not try to pretend that not everyone and their mothers hounded one of the greatest managers of all time for not extracting more of this hack. You're not that clever with your transparent attempt at rewriting history here. As if sidelining him was ever a realistic option for whoever came in when the footballing Einsteins high up the board and across the media and fan base already decided that he was an indisputable first team player.

Some laugh at the Welbeck comparisons, and while I was never a fan of his either, I'd take a Welbeck of similar age any day of the week over this kick and run merchant. At least he was able to control a ball. Occasionally.
