He really needs to work on his finishing as that's the only aspect of his game that lets him down. It's a relief watching us play with a quick mobile striker I must say. Having a good game but just the finishing...
Pace is overrated in my opinion. The important thing is to understand the game. Speed can only get you so far...

He's got everything but the finishing touch today. Scaring the shit out of boro every time he gets the ball.

Nice to see some pace and directness behind a defence for once

He's been great today. I really hope he gets a goal because he deserves one.

Christ, could you imagine this place these days with young Ronnie ? He wouldn't get 6 months.
Ronaldo got a lot of shit on 2nd and 3rd seasons. I remember on various forums that a lot of people said they didn't mind if we sold him at that point.

As for Rash, thought he has been good untill now.

One more year as a understudy to Zlatan and I think he will be our first choice striker after that. Today he has really showed that he can become a world class player in the future.

He didn't make the wrong decision, and it wasn't a poor attempt. I understand the de ja vu with it being a similar opportunity to his chance at Chelsea (where he went directly at the keeper). With this chance, he opened up his body and went far post, and was on target.

I would call that a good stop from Valdez rather than a bad miss.

Their defence is having to sit deep because of his speed. He's having a good game. Once he gets one more will come...

Rashford does understand the game, he links up so well with others and can operate through the middle or wide. Just needs to be ruthless with his finishing.

great player but the same contribution like Welbeck who'd get so much stick in the same game..

hopefully he can start finishing of chances, he will be brilliant then.. great link up with Jesse btw

The understanding between him and Lingard is one of the best attacking threats we have.

It's better to watch than what a lot of the others produce together.

Very encouraging. His close control has gone up a notch. The finishing will come back with confidence and more playing time as striker, we already know he can be deadly.

I think someone mentioned it but Rashford just needs a better shot selection. I think the first chance, he could have dinked it or been more subtle about his finish. He tends to look to go across the goalkeeper - bottom corner. He just need variation and to read the goalkeeper better. I'm not too worried about his lack of goals as we can say he's had less chances because he's started out wide - but he's still got that energy in his game and I'm hopeful he'll score second half.

As I have said since the first few times I saw Rashford;

Rashford at CF = one of the most exciting young players in Europe
Rashford at RW/LW = very average young player

I know this game is an exception with Zlatan out, but I can't believe more people haven't called for him to play on the right. He's Welbeck or Raheem Sterling with a bit more height.

The things about him being said in match thread is just...maybe manager should trust him a bit more and give him more minutes in striker position, those chance he might convert if it was last season

He's made some good chances for himself but he's messed them all up, that said he's 19 so there's little doubt of him improving in the future. It will be pretty interesting actually to see how far he can go as a footballer he seems to want to work for it.
Just wish he'd stop kicking it at the bleedin keeper.

He's better than Pogba. Should be starting every game (out wide).

I prefer him up top, but having the licence to drift wide and run at the opposition players like we've seen today.

The modern forward does that nowadays anyway. Kane, Lukaku, Sturridge, Ibra, Costa, etc. It's all about the interchanging, and today, Rashford, Lingard and Mata have done this very well.

I think if Jose goes 442 with Rashford-Zlatan, it will be superb. Let them play together and you will see the best in the league.

Their connection is a bit weird because I don't think they played much together at youth level given that I think Rashford only had a handful of appearances in the U21s.

We know he can score, that isn't a problem for me.
His time out wide seems to have really helped him, his dynamism is off the charts.
If he played like this for Monaco we would be drooling over him.

Agreed. We don't have to start him often. Just give him 15-20 mins here and there and give Zlatan a rest in some games. That would mean we are grooming him in his best position and see if he is real in a couple of years time.

You would think it is a common sense. But yeah. It is almost like Jose does not want to upset Zlatan by subbing him at all.

Yes, agree. But this will come with time. I have full hope and trust in him to develop into a very strong striker in the future. We should take it easy with him and "allow" him to make some easy mistakes.

His movement is incredible for someone of his age so I don't understand why anyone could claim he's only got pace. Compare that to Martial who's one of the most static players you'll ever see despite his natural physical gifts.

Didn't you just say he's been dog shit?

I guess it's because they've been brought through by the same coaches, taught to play the same high tempo attacking style, trained together loads, both clever players and genuinely get on and enjoy each others style.

To be fair watching Lingard over the years lots of players have built up understandings with him; Ravel Morrison and Larnell Cole in particular. He can bring a lot out of his team mates when he plays well.
