His movement is incredible for someone of his age so I don't understand why anyone could claim he's only got pace. Compare that to Martial who's one of the most static players you'll ever see despite his natural physical gifts.

Is all very true.

What a ridiculously unnecessary comparison.

What on earth has Pogba got to do with this?

Because one of them starts every match for Man Utd and gets away with dross performances 'because he's young', despite being 24...

And the other actually deserves more game-time, actually is young, and I watch him changing matches almost every time he's on the pitch.

Both are attackers, and both are at their best (imo) occupying left side of the attack.

Hope this helps.

I prefer him up top, but having the licence to drift wide and run at the opposition players like we've seen today.

The modern forward does that nowadays anyway. Kane, Lukaku, Sturridge, Ibra, Costa, etc. It's all about the interchanging, and today, Rashford, Lingard and Mata have done this very well.

Yeah, true. I'd just like him out wide with license to drift inside and go through the middle.

I don't think Rashford will ever be 1st choice CF for Man Utd, but I really think he should be starting every game.

Think he's been very good, though that would have been an "excellent" if he'd gotten anything right in front of goal.
But he's not guilty of anything every single one of our players isn't also guilty of (bar Ibra)

Agreed. We don't have to start him often. Just give him 15-20 mins here and there and give Zlatan a rest in some games. That would mean we are grooming him in his best position and see if he is real in a couple of years time.

You would think it is a common sense. But yeah. It is almost like Jose does not want to upset Zlatan by subbing him at all.
Or almost like every game we play is crucial and we're always chasing a result or barely holding on. And bringing on a 19 yr old who hasn't shown Jose he can finish a chance, in place of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, seems ridiculous.

The moment at 54 minutes, an Aguero strikes that first time. Not dithers with it towards the corner and waits for the defence to catch up.

So you are saying there were no games at all when we were comfortable enough to sub zlatan for rash?

No one is asking to sub zlatan when we need to chase a game.

Not sure if he's tired or something now though, not really giving his all to close down/chase long balls/hold up play.

Why don't we play the ball down the channels for him. Everything is to his chest where he is weakest

When you have rashford, young, valencia and martial on the team we should be bombing forward with unbearable pace but for some reason jose has us playing deep and pumping long balls up the pitch

Playing with 10 men. He looks fecked

Yeah he has gone a bit quiet this half. Shame we don't have a replacement striker on the bench. Rashford has put some yards in today though. I'd be interested to see what his running stats are afterwards.

He has been OK today, got worse as the game went on for sure though.

He is not good enough to start for us yet. Simple as that at this stage. Can't be too hard in the critique of him because of that fact. Nothing changes because Zlatan isn't available. He still has much to learn about his role either as a striker or a wide forward.

Needs to train and focus immediately on improving his touch, controlling the ball during dribbles and finishing under pressure. Then work on aerial stuff thereafter.

Was like playing with 10 men with him in that second half, needs to sort his shit out before he finds himself even lower down the pecking order

He may or may not come good in the future. But right now, he is simply not good enough to lead our line

he is very effective off the bench and that's where he should stay.

I think that his problem is more mental than anything else. He was very effective last season, but it seems that he doesn't know yet how to handle disappointments. Hopefully he will learn.

This is very true and a big reason why Jose chooses him over Martial in the strikers position.

Rashford may have missed chances but he's always involved due to his movement and direct running.

His problem is his lack of hold up play. When we're on the front foot he's more than good enough and will cause any defense loads of problems. When we're sitting back you need someone who's good with his back to goal and Rashford is not yet there. It will come though if we have patience and hopefully Jose does even if the fans don't.

I like the danger his pace and movement causes the opposition. It's something that Ibrahimović can't provide.

His 1st half was excellent.

He faded badly after the hour mark. But we were resorting to long ball over the top to him and he had little support in and around him once Mata went off.

He's much better through the middle than down the flanks.

I maintain he's exactly what we're missing on the right flank. Problem is he's always played down the left.

He struggles badly when we resort to just hoof the ball forward instead of proper build-up. When we actually tried to play football he was very good today.

Right now he's lacking the physicality to be a regular striker. I can't remember him ever challenging for a ball in the air, not just in this game but at any point this season. Still, he's only 19 and he has plenty of time to improve in that aspect. For now I think playing on the wing is the best place for him to improve. He can use his speed more effectively in that area.

I thought he did ok, he can't hold the ball up so he became less effective as the game went on and his descision making was poor, but he made some good runs.

what do you expect from him to do when we play with 6 defenders and Carrick and Fellaini to whom it takes forever to turn, that he has a chance to do anything? No striker would make any difference, well some stronger one might try to hold up the play but would be hard to get on the end of the clearances and Rashford decided to stretch the play but when he's alone how is he supposed to press 4 players with only lingard to support, just use your brain, thanks

had a brilliant half in which he failed to score, just like Welbz usually played out wide and failing to score for a long time from up front too. I have high hopes for him though

Hes much better down the middle and thats obvious.

I hate seeing him pushed out wide just cos... hes fast. It will work a few times when you know he can beat a man with his pace but it will be more frustrating than not.
Think he should have scored the second chance today though. He played well and his link up with Rashford was good. Would like to see him play up top with Pogba deep in midfield to make use of both their ability.

His movement and pace is sublime. He does need to bulk out, but I assume he'll probably lose some pace by doing so. He has bags of it anyway, so a little pace drop off isn't going to be too negative if he can improve his hold up play and strength.

Done well today, his pace and positioning was great but his finishing not so. I do think he'll become one hell of a striker in the not too distant though.

God he's like lightning. When he develops a little more chunk to his game he's going to be dangerous as feck. Valdez had a great day against him. The first one on one he couldn't have done much more.

Sometimes the players don't lose much pace. I don't recall Ronaldo losing pace after his bulk up. Even today that Adama Traore guy is absolutely massive yet still pretty agile and quick as ever.

Thought he had a decent game today. Was a far better performance than many of his leading the line last season. Was highly involved and linked well. Looked like contributing aside from just tapping the ball in.

Absolutely must improve his finishing if he wants to make it at Utd. Missed a 1-1 chance two games in a row now. Great pace and strentgh

In all fairness, the two good chances he had we very well saved. The second one especially he couldn't reasonably have been expected to do much more than get on the end of it.

He was very good in the first half when we played with proper build up and kept the ball on the ground. Second half he struggled but there aren't many strikers who could have done any difference the way we played. he was basically asked to be a target man upfront on his own but he just isn't that type of player.

Exactly. The whole "Needs to bulk up" thing is one of the daftest things in football. Second only to "If he bulks up he'll lose pace".

People need to go and take a look at a sprinter. They're fecking HUGE! If your muscles get bigger and stronger, you get faster. Not slower.

It's true that if you lifted nothing but heavy weights, skipped leg day and gave yourself the physique of a 400m swimmer competing in the butterfly then yes, you're carrying muscle in the wrong places and will fatigue faster. But this is never going to happen to a footballer.

He's a kid. He'll fill out as his body matures. He'll start to look more like a man, condition himself and he'll get faster for a few years. Not slower.
