Jones had the potential to become world class, still has, but that he is a capped world cup finalist says nothing, demichelis also is one and even Romero is one, and yet de Gea costs more than Romero? Overpriced Spaniards? No that's not how it works.
No it doesn't say nothing. It says English players are overpriced compared to foreign talent.

It´s not only 9 million. Here is the CMVM communication: http://web3.cmvm.pt/sdi2004/emitentes/docs/FR51803.pdf

I´ll translate the important parts:

Sporting sold Rojo to Manchester United for 20 million Euros. It´s divided in three payments, 10 millions are payed immediatly, 5 millions in 1st december 2014 and another 5 millions in 1st July 2015. Spartak will get 4 millions and Doyen will get integrally what they invested because of our legal dispute. It also says that Sporting will get 20% of the fee if United sells him for more than 23 millions. We get Nani for free. United pays the 100% of his wages.

Wow so much for our massive war chest.. Christ

Ah, I see, cheers.

Welcome Rojo

But...

... am I the only one who thought Nani was one of our better players on Sat, and that he seemed to provide a spark and a better option than hoofing in the general direction of the toilet brush. Seems odd that we'd be so eager to part with him. Would much rather have given them Anderson.

Unless the ownership structure described up to this point has been entirely incorrect that'll end up in a legal battle. To me it looks a very opportune thing to try from Sporting. I think @Sly said that they were paid £400k for approx. 40% of Carvalho. This, if they could force it through, would get them out of that.

I'm not fussed about the money, we're addressing our significant problems. Hope he turns out to be worth every penny.

£16m + Nani's wages in full for a year!! That can't be right?
Another deal done by overpaying because our CEO has no idea what he's doing and that's his only way to close deals.

Hope we'll now move on to targets who will actually strengthen the line-up. Glad we have one more body in defence but not convinced he'll start when everyone is fit.

Stop moaning. Most deals are done in installments. Not many are paid all upfront at once.

It does make you wonder if the Glazers are really prepared to spend 60-70 mill more. I hope I am wrong but it would explain we haven't stumped up the cash for Vidal or Di Maria yet.

Sweet, if nothing else we're at least less exposed to injuries in defence.

From all I've heard about this guy I'm not expecting him to be much more than okay. Hopefully he'll surprise me and step up in a massive way.

Even if he doesn't though he'll still be a decent addition in that we're quite desperate for defenders right now. Plus, if nothing else, I'm definitely happier signing this guy than Vermaelen.

It's good to get this deal wrapped up. What kind of CB is he? Do people think he'll be first choice?

He looked good in the world cup and is a player who really showed he wanted to play for Man Utd. That's more than enough for me. I hope he turns out excellent and proves some of you guys wrong.

Brophs mate i think we sold Carvalho´s percentage to another fund. It´s not Doyen, i´m not sure. I´ll check it.

Im delighted with this deal. Specially with Nani. Cmon guys, you owed us after you got Ronaldo for peanuts :p

Excited to see Rojo in action for us, especially seeing how excited he is to be here.

My question though is regarding the whole Nani business..is he joining them on loan for the season, with us paying his wages? or was he involved as part of an exchange, and we are just paying his first years wages? Sorry if i missed it somewhere, didn't see that anywhere when i was reading through.

Welcome onboard Rojo. I think this will be a good signing.

The first of many over the next few days hopefully.

Happy with this signing. He's pretty young, wants to play for United, versatile, relatively cheap, and from the little I've seen from him, he's a good defender with potential. He certainly fits Van Gaals philosophy, in the way he's good at playing from the back. Really hope he can be a success here. With Evans possibly still being out, we could all see Rojo making his début on Sunday.

Although most won't agree, I personally feel this should be it for centre backs now. We now have four first team centre backs, with Keane and Blackett as back up.

It's time we give Smalling, Jones and Evans a full season to step up and prove themselves, providing they stay fit, because I personally feel they are good enough to to do.

I think we pay the Money to Sporting with Doyen's approval and they 2 then battle it out in courts etc..

Sporting have been pretty oppurtune already getting Nani loan for free and now want more from Doyen as well.

Sure we can afford 25/30 payments. Madrid are paying Bales fee over 3 years I think.

Would that be our problem or Sporting for terminating the contract?
No idea to be honest. Id imagine that is what is being sorted right now.

It is just a year long loan deal with us paying all of his wages, with the hope that he puts in good performances so we can actually get good money for him next summer.
