Marcos Rojo | Manchester United Player Pending Medical

I'm surprised at how anyone could moan at the idea of signing Rojo after what we witnessed from our center backs at the weekend.

Okayish player, nothing special, not highly sought after by other top clubs, cheap, typical United signing. Honestly, we need players of the highest quality, not the likes of Rojo and Blind.

How much of him have you seen to call him that? @Sly rates him highly and he is a Sporting fan who watches them every week. Pretty sure you are talking out of your arse here in his assessment.
Doesn't mean anything? It's just his opinion. Fan is bias and fickle, opinion changes over time.

Anyway I did check sporting lisbon forum, most of them don't rate Rojo that high but think he has good potential which is hardly surpirsing, look at our Nani/Valencia's thread few year ago and see how Caftards overrated our players. But they (sporting fans) agree 16m is a very good deal, probably because of his WC performance. So you can safely say, judging from his club's performance, SCP's fans don't think we worth that much. But the number doesn't bother me, LvG wants him for his system so as long as we have a balance squad at the end of the transfer window, I'm more than happy with this signing, otherwise feck Ed.

It's true that Rojo might not be of the caliber we really need. I certainly haven't seen anyone seriously suggest he's an outstanding talent or anything like it.

The truth is is we're desperate though. It's unfortunate that we've come to this point (again) but that's just the way it is.

It might be that Rojo never becomes United quality and is eventually sold a in a few seasons' time as another failed buy. That's the risk we're gonna have to take with so little time remaining in the transfer window though.

Why didnt we just go for Benatia at the start of the window... City went for him then settled on Mangala.

We just had Vidic AND Rio leave thus freeing up massive wages and at least one senior CB spot... why would we not go after the best CB's the game and not pipe dreams like Hummels... Benatia was always available to the highest bidder...as is Vidal.

I have absolutely no idea. Trying to apply logic to our current transfer strategy seems pointless, it's a mess. Again.

I believe that stastically, Rojo was an outstanding peformer at the World Cup (along with Cuadrado and others as well). Quite a few players' stock went up, or down, based off their World Cup performances. It's very possible he caught Van Gaal's eye playing against Holland in the WC (or in LVG's preparation and studying of that side). Personally, I'm not sure it's fair to compare Rojo to Hummels, Benatia, Mangala, etc. We're really speculating on how LVG plans to use him and integrate him into the side.

Personally, I'm not too worried that he's bought Rojo instead of some more established names like those above. The plan may be to acquire Rojo in addition to a more experienced centreback. I think Hummels is top notch. Benatia I've seen so little of, I don't harbour much of an opinion. Mangala strikes me as a little overrated, what little I've seen of him playing. I suppose if I had my choice I'd go for Varane if we're going to drop a massive fee on to extract a top CB from a major club. Again, we all know what they say about opinions.

What does worry me a bit though is the concern that LVG might be buying based off his WC experience. Incredibly bad business can arise from buying players based on 4 to 7 games in a summer tournament. LvG has been out of club football for awhile, too.

I don't know. He isn't exactly a great defender. And wouldnt this go against what LVG has been saying about us buying for the sake of buying? If we are buying shouldnt it be someone who will really improve us? Obviously the likes of Benatia are going to be more expensive but players like him are the ones who will really improve us. Still unsure about Rojo from what Ive seen.

If this is Van Gaal's signing and it's confirmed then great. More to do now though.

So we are paying Nani's full wages? Doesn't make sense.

Doesn't make any sense. Why hold a press conference with the sole purpose of apologising to the Sporting fans and announcing that you'd be returning to training the next day and then sign for United less than 24 hours later. Sounds like yet more United transfer bullshit.

Don't really know what to make of it. Seems like a lot of people who watch Portuguese football regularly don't rate him, but if Van Gaal likes him then that's good enough I guess. I just hope he isn't our only defensive signing.

Extremely underwhelmed but at this point I'm not gonna be an asshole, any signing is good for the club. 22m Euros for an ok to average player, #fleeced

Tbh he was probably the 6th or 7th choice for us but the only one we are able to sign at this point.

He actually is going back to Sporting apparently and that's not bad news either. Shame we have to pay his full wages though ffs, couldn't somebody just buy him ?

That's not reported though. We might add a bit to the wages he receives from them but I doubt we will pay his full wage.

Where are you getting this? Why would we have to pay his full wages and for how long? Wouldn't any swap be a permanent deal?

EDIT: Rumors say loan deal
