Was going to post that pic here. They only show the interview at 9.30 pm but since it´s a recorded interview they showed little bits of the interview. Translating it´s basically what i was speculating. He´s thanking us and the people who work at the club for the oportunity to play in our club after a not so good momento in Russia. I think he´s as good as gone

Such an average signing eh Sly?

Adds much needed depth to our depth, but it's a player, like Blind, who needs to be complemented with a star signing defender like Hummels or Benatia otherwise it's severely underwhelming. Simply adding him is like accepting our demise or mediocrity.

If this happens we still need someone of Benatia, Inigo Martinez, Laporte or Hummels quality defender to lead the back line. We have no leader at the back and Rojo although a good player isn't a leader. Every team needs that Vidic, Mascherano, Puyol, Terry, Ivanovic, Cannavaro type of leader that just pulls defender and co-ordinates everything that's going at the back and we don't have one.

This kid any good?

He had a decent World Cup with Argentina where he played as LB but he apparently plays as a CB for Sporting. Not going to be a spectacular signing if it happens, the fact that no other big club is after him is telling for me. He would be a squad addition and at best will perform reasonably well for us.

If he signs he will add pace and strength to the defence. Not sure he starts if we play 4-3-3 but adds some depth on the left side

Van Gaal wants him and left footed ball playing centre back is crucial in 3 5 2 total football. Good signing, I take him over Vermaelen any day but yes people won't be happy but it's the start. Now move on to next target ?

€30mil buyout clause. Even Woody could get him.

Seems to be a hard guy, very pacy and good on the ball. If we he signs for us and we can make him consistent I think he can be a very good addition.
Also he looks like a bit of a nutter, which I like.

So the general consensus is that we're after him because he's average/decent CB, but leftfooted so fits Left Centre Back position?

Reminds me of Heinze, sort of

I thought Heinze was brilliant for us until we bought Evra and that shattered his confidence. If Rojo is anywhere close to that defensively, we'd be fine. The opportunity to have 5 proper defensive players in a 3-5-2 is what makes the system so hard to breakdown.

Yeah, I liked Heinze

Can he stay fit? That's the point. I would be happy with anybody with two legs at this moment.

I wouldn't trust a player's injury record if he's playing for us, it's a different story. We make defenders injury prone. :(

I guess he can do a job for us. Considering some of the defenders we have been linked with this summer. We could do much, much worse.

Can comfortably play in a back three or as part of a back four which in theory is just what we need... Hope we loan out blackett now though as his first team opportunities will be very limited if this deal happens

Disagree. It'll be limited when everyone is fit but how often will that happen with Rafael, Jones, Evans and Smalling in defence? Ideally we'd sign one more center back like Benatia and then loan him out, because loaning him out right after signing just Rojo wouldn't be too smart.

His injury record isn't great (though did well last season), but it makes no difference anyway. Shaw had great injury record for Southampton, came here and was fecked.
I think Southampton put a curse on them as they are leaving. Most ex Southampton players seem to pick up injuries soon after they leave.

I may be off here but Rojo just seems like someone who needs a commanding presence alongside for him to flourish. He has the talent but doesn't seem like a leader who can organize and run a defense.

Is it normal in Portugal for a player to do an interview/press conference talking about leaving?

I'm struggling to think of it ever happening over here.

Benatia will also join. Just watch.
