Shame about the fact that he's really poor as LB so he will not get many games there when our 1st options for CBs are ready.. but maybe, maybe with the intensity he plays as CB he could do a job, I actually remember a few decent games there and for Argentina too, only a few though, wouldnt be worse than Darmian for sure

Another great, no nonsense performance from him today. Didn't give Kane a look in and covered for Darmian repeatedly.

To be fair he and Jones seem to complement each other perfectly. Jones is the no-nonsense defender and Rojo seems the playmaker from the back, his left foot has always been good when under less pressure.

I don't agree. If anything this is a like for like CB partnership like Pepe and S.Ramos. Both are aggressive, athletic and capable on ball to certain extent. This is not Puyol - Pique, Nesta- Cannavaro, Terry- Carvalho, Rio- Vida, Hummels- Boateng... type of partnership

He proved several people wrong including me. One plea to Mourinho; Do not play him anywhere on the pitch than CB.

Not going to blame Van Gaal alone for his form over the past two years, but Jose has him playing like a new signing. Wonderful no nonsense defender and if there was a most improved player award in the PL, he should win it.

Wonderful wtf he epitomises average he's doing ok just now nothing more. We need better he's been a poor signing.

My second choice for MOTM after Mkhitaryan. That was his best performance in a red shirt IMO

Finally everyone is starting to see what a good player he is.

Passionate, no nonsense defender. Thats what we've been crying out for.

Glad for him, criticism and hatred of him has been well OTT.

Hatred? Really? I've never personally seen any hatred. I used to think he was useless like plenty of others did but that doesn't equate to hatred at all.

Credit to him, he's been excellent lately.

Please try out rojo and bailly as a pair going forward,

It would very fun to watch those 2 aggressive, no nonsense defenders in the team. Oppo strikers will be crapping themselves when they see those 2 flying towards them.

The only thing that scares me about those two is their flying tackles at times. Bailly, Jones, and Rojo are doing very well for us. I can't see Smalling walking back into a starting spot anytime soon. Will be nice when all are fit around the new year and the matches start piling up again.

He was poor the first two years, but he has been fantastic this season. The only thing I would say is that the sample size has been small thus far. Let's give credit where it's due.

Absolutely top performance, especially when you consider he had to cover for Darmian frequently. Building a nice partnership with Jones too. Congrats to him on turning around a lot of people's views. Also, it is pretty clear he is not a LB.

I've never thought that the day will come when these words will be coming from my mouth but, Rojo was MOTM contender, most definitely up there with Mickey Taryan and Ander Herrera.

I'm glad he keeps hoofing the ball up all the time simply because the less time he has on the ball, the less chance he has to make a mistake, tho he should probably work on directing it better.

Its hard to believe this is the same player. Credit to Jose, him and Jones look fantastic.

He is doing well and hopefully keeps it up as a lot of fans (self included) need as you say convinced after the first two years of his time here but fantastic is way to much credit imo for a half dozen or so mistake free steady performances. Long may this form continue though and he is meriting his place as is Jones.

Rojo had a very good game but he was also always there to cover for Darmian. He's in excellent form and it will be tough now for Jose to pick between him, Jones and Bailly. Smalling really needs to up his game to even get close to starting games for us again

I believe Jones and Rojo will keep their partnership for now that Bailly is off for ACON in few weeks time. Bailly likely plays RB vs Palace with Valencia being suspended for the game

No arguments against that line up. Jones and Rojo deserve to play, they've been fantastic. Especially for Jones to come back and find his form so quickly. I've never seen Bailly play at RB so I hope he can play there. I doubt Jose is brave enough to play TFM there

It is a good thing that jose tries to keep in forms players in the starting line-ups as much as he can instead of switching them with bigger names whenever they come back from injuries or whatever.

I like rojo. He is a very decent player.

Did see him play as RB but didn't even take note of his name at the time since we rarely bought any African players in the past. Mourinho loves African players though. It was vs Real Madrid game which he dominated Ronaldo

MOTM for sure. Absolutely shut down Kane and didn't set a foot wrong other than giving that free-kick away.

There wasn't much between himself, Herrera and Mkhitaryan for MOTM. Bizarrely, he was getting abuse from some in the Matchday thread..

Any video compilations going around of this performance?

Yeah he does get a lot of OTT criticism, IMO.

In the past, he got a lot of warranted criticism, especially when he played at LB. However, he was clearly very good yesterday so I have no idea why some were saying he was having a poor game in the Matchday thread. As I've said before, I think some are refusing to change their opinions on him no matter how well he plays.

Hopefully he'll never play as left back for us. Even in his first season he started well as CB then dislocated his shoulder, after that played as LB.

As a CB he is playing really well and he has very good pace to cover the full back when opposition tries to counter attack.

Not on this game but wish he scores few goals. He gets on end of set pieces regularly but somehow fails to score. Will be added bonus.

I honestly thought his time at United was coming to a close, but fair play to him, he has really taken his opportunity. I always thought he looked out of sorts when at left back, but on the left side of central defence he looks far more comfortable. Not sure if he's a long-term solution, but credit where it's due, he has put himself in contention.

Yeah, absolutely. Agreed with both those statements.

I wonder how long it will take before people start to realise that he's our best CB? I've been saying it for years. He's got all the attributes to be a Sergio Ramos type for us. We've been crying out for one of those aggressive mad men in the defence. Rojo is perfect for Jose and I'm glad he's been given the chance.

I will say this though... there will come a time where he probably gives away a penalty or scores a rash own goal and I bet the entire fanbase will turn on him like they did with Fellaini. It happens to the best of defenders but Rojo won't be forgiven for it like Smalling was for the Chelsea performance and messing up De Gea's golden glove last season... It's all favourtism with us. Some fans still won't give him the credit he deserves so I'm just waiting for them to pounce on him when he gets caught out some day. No doubt it will be a massive overreaction and there will be calls to bring back the brainless Smalling.

This is absolutely ridiculous considering how many people on here have now changed their minds on Smalling after that Chelsea horror show. Maybe you haven't been reading. You're also adding to things by bringing up Smalling in the first place. Why not just praise Rojo? It seems you can't praise any of your favored CBs in this place without bringing up one of the others you don't rate

Cause the same people who were saying Rojo was dreadful were also big fans of Smalling who has been much worse for us than Rojo has.

Rojo wasn't brilliant at LB but I can think of way more times when Smalling fecked up. And yet some people were saying he is captain material and the best CB in the Premier League? :wenger: I'll admit, he put in some solid performances last season but thats where it ends.

Anyway, this is about Rojo. So I won't turn this into a big debate about Smalling. Still, my views on the matter are relevant. Fellaini and Rojo can't win with some fans, but the likes of Smalling, Shaw, etc always seem to get a free ride for some reason.

This 100%. Some people just won't let it go. Some players no matter how good they are will always be shite and some players no matter how average they are will always be world class. That's just how it is. I'm just glad that he's showing what he can do. Not much got past him yesterday. He was awesome! So long as he keeps playing like that, no way Jose can leave him out.
