Marco Verratti… | signs for Al-Arabi

There is absolutely no chance he is coming here. Why even entertain nonsense like this.

As much as I'd like to see us sign a midfielder who can actually pass the ball, I don't think this one would be a good idea. I don't think Verratti has the fitness or the legs to work in the Premier League anymore. Having said that, I'd much rather us try that than continue playing Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes in the same midfield every week.

It won't work and the moan level here will skyrocket.
'Why is he on £450k a week when my neighbour's from Sunday league run more' 'EtH and Murtough should be sacked' and so on :nervous:

Well, this is the good thing about the saudi spending spree, they make it difficult for our executives to target big names past their best.
And we could get some money for players like Casemiro, Varane, Eriksen next summer as well.

Maybe so. I'd rather sign a different midfielder to be fair, I'm just underlining how disastrous it would be if we push ahead with the plan to start Mount and Fernandes together in a midfield three on a regular basis. I'm adamant it can't work, and I truly believe we're writing the season off now if we don't change it.

He’s slow and can’t run anymore, but aggressive in the tackle and puts himself about. Plus the way he handles the ball is second to none. I’d bring him in.

With a midfield of Verratti and Casemiro we will be absolutely nailed on to win the league 8 years ago.

If true then we’ve learnt nothing from past seasons, yes Verratti at one point was one of the best midfielders in the world but now he’s injury prone and ill disciplined off the pitch as is said to be a heavy smoker and poor trainer hence PSG wanting rid and only Saudi teams coming in.

Exactly what we shouldn't do. Seemingly has fitness issues and would demand big wages. Ed would probably be on it asap though.

If that link is even remotely true, this club has turned into a fecking circus.
Veratti has given up on football a long time ago.

Hopefully the links are fake

Verratti is a good footballer, but not enough for the top level.

The guy should earn 15M per year + a transfer fee around 50M.

He's loving cigarettes, night life and is overweight for 3 years.

At this price, we could have more valuable players.

I haven't tracked the player closely enough to know if he's showing real signs of decline or the injuries are degenerative, and obviously we need to sign the next player of his type (De Jong was the guy obviously but curiously Ten Hag hasn't had a punt on potentially the next player of that ilk, you'd think we'd have gone for one of the young South Americans who seem to be available at okay prices).

Risky, especially for huge wages and a 30M fee, but I wonder if we could mitigate for his lack of legs and Mount's averageness by having a big game lineup of Mount, Bruno, Verrati and Casemiro together and hope Mount's running and a higher position works for him.

Rashford and one other attacker depending on fit and form with Bruno as the 3rd highest player but central. So like this I guess:

---Rashford--------Hojlund--------
-------Mount-------Bruno------------
----------Verrati-Casemiro---------
Shaw---Licha-Varane----------RB

but this lineup also desperately needs a proper RB threat.

In smaller games, the idea would be we control the ball better in possession in the normal 4-3-3 I guess, and Verrati and Eriksen can split time and hopefully thus stay healthy and only play 55 minutes most games before the other, or Mount, comes in.

10 years too late to a top class CM talent, we are experts at this so I can see us paying 50m euros for grandpa Verratti.

Zero chance we're going near him and at this stage he would get dispossessed in the PL more than Pogba.

Is there anyway we can get him on a year loan deal?

Thought ETH didnt want any assholes in the squad and this guy sounds like a complete diva and, arguably, past it any way.

We'd be better off re-signing Schweinsteiger. Even at 39, he couldn't possibly be slower or less fit than Verratti.

World beating pairing that would be in their prime. Just another useless over the hill player with a large fan following to appease the marketing overlords.

Can you imagine Verratti trying to get into shape for an ETH team

Lately some evidence/indication of a faulty front press might be at play, but also late in games when tired that MF wont hold up when press drops to tiredness, even so it's imbalanced. EtH seem a bit to stubborn to abandon 1 or 2 wingers for a 4 mid setup I think, would be hard to replace any mid for another, we bought us some issues I guess. Not sure veratti is the right guy. Seem more of a Woodward signing. Even though he used to be so awesome no clear indication he's the same anymore.

There's no chance we get but he's still brilliant when fit. He'd be an old lower cost version of FDJ.

Sales of cigarettes in Alderley Edge will go through the roof if we got him at least. Sure the bars round Deansgate Locks would be pleased too.

They've got good wheelchair access too.

Still misses his share of games to injury every year though his minutes total are not abysmal either. Will get carded. Will not influence heavily in every game.
At PSG suffered a lot of basically having to do the work for the whole midfield, was at his best when Thiago Motta and Matuidi were part of the squad so a very good destroyer and B2B. Casemiro would do if he exits his slump... Mount or Bruno I do not know.

Also considering Onana passes are a little wasted so far, that's probably true to an extent for a DLP.
