Marco Reus

It has been suggested Woodward wants a "superstar" to sell the United brand and that explains the Cavani links. This kid could be the next United superstar and I only hope van Gaal can explain that to him.

Will it be an exaggeration to say that he's the best German player as of right now?

just break the bank for this guy. he is what we need right now, someone who is direct, fast, skillful and a decent finisher as well.

if we are in for a serious business next season and want to compete with the best, we have to offload nani and young, and relegated valencia to the bench ( at least he can be our wing back when rafael is injured).

reus, januzaj, mata, kagawa. that's a decent attacking minded midfield to add to the quartet of rooney, persie, hernandez and welbeck.

then of course 2 new CM and a left back and a CB. we should be back for next season.

I honestly didnt find Lahm to be really good that season. Stable, but not outstanding. Though Reus did also have quite a few off games.

The period where he excelled as a DM he was phenomenal.

Reus had a large number of quiet games, I would think even his biggest fans would admit that. Didn't watch much Bayern but they were extremely dominant in the Bundesliga table, I'd think there would be a few Germans from that team who would argue Reus as the best.

No. He is for sure the best german player in his current form, at least offensively (so not counting Lahm and Neuer because you can't compare them).

The first half of this season was nothing special from him though. But the whole Dortmund squad did underperform a lot anyways.

Well given the fact that they were missing 4-5 first teams for a good half of the season, Im not surprised.

Totally agree, could also be the reason why he was not able to play like he is doing the past few weeks. Probably Bundesliga POTY (only Robben and Lahm could challenge him).

I think the fact that he got no rest at all also was a factor. After sitting out for three games in march he went on and scored 8 goals and got 5 assists in the past 7 games.

Would love it if we signed him. Such an exciting player and would improve our wide play massively.

Manchester United target Marco Reus remains coy on Borussia Dortmund future

Manchester United target Marco Reus refused to commit his future to Borussia Dortmund, telling an awards ceremony audience: 'We'll see about that'.

The 24-year-old was voted Dortmund's Player of the Year by newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten, after returning from injury to score 10 and assist seven of his side's next 24 goals.

The Germany international is reported to be one of Louis van Gaal's primary transfer targets, should the Dutchman replace David Moyes as manager at Old Trafford.

Despite being offered a new contract to stay at the Westfalenstadion, Reus confirmed he is yet to agree new terms - amid reports that 35million euro release clause will become active in the summer

Speaking at the awards ceremony, he said: 'It's like that in this business. Every player only has one career and wants to get the best out of it.

'You have to decide what's best for you. We'll see about that.'

The attacking midfielder has not won any silverware since joining Dortmund from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2012 and stressed the importance of winning titles in the future.

'Every footballer has his goals and is dreaming of winning titles. At the end of your career, you want to be able to say that you've won many titles.'

Jurgen Klopp's hopes of winning trophies have been seriously dented by the sale of Dortmund's best players in recent years - with star striker Robert Lewandowski set to join Mario Gotze at main rivals Bayern Munich next season.

Doesn't sound like he's very keen on staying.

All I'll say is that if one of our players were to be making comments like that then I'd be worried.

If he was certain to stay he would just say so, unless the line of questioning and the quotes have been twisted slightly.

If he does leave this summer he's going to be in very high demand. More so than any other of our optimistically realistic targets. This could push his fee high enough for it to be worthwhile for Dortumund to let him go this summer.

Which has got me thinking.... If he stays at Dortmund until next summer when the €35m release clause becomes active, are we likely to see a bidding war between clubs pushing his fee beyond €35m, or will he leave for 35 regardless, but the bidding war would be over his terms?

That last bit of winning titles killed it for me. I think he is talking about imminent success by the looks of it. So not Man utd. Maybe Van Gaal can convince him otherwise.

Really? We're known for winning things and if we get the right the players in and then LVG can convince him. I have hopes, however low they may be.

Yes. The future is uncertain and for us fans, we will support this club for many years and we can see success in the future. But when he says he wants titles, he may be unsure in coming here. BUT, like I said, if Van Gaal convinces him of the future success then we got a chance.

Like everything else, we have to wait and see. I don't see Madrid being in for him and Barca already have issues fitting Neymar and Messi into the same team, adding Rues makes it worse. Hopefully it leaves us with a decent chance.

At the start of next season we'll have as much chance of winning titles as anyone else.

Does he also not have a soft spot for United? we can afford to bid as much as just about anyone else & match wages offered. I'd say United would be in with a good shout of landing him. But I do believe he won't be allowed to leave until 2015.

Over his terms. Dortmund have no control over any bid above or matching 35mil so its pointless to offer more. Better offer him a high package.

If we want to have any chance of signing him we just have to hope that he doesn't move this summer. Sort or sh!t out next season and go after him then.
If he doesn't sign the new contract, then its going to be harder to sign him next year because the clause becomes active and there will be a bidding war. 35m Euros is cheap when it comes to Reus.

We have a lot of question marks around us at the moment. Don't think we'll be able to sign him this season even if we somehow managed to convince Dortmund to sell him. Obviously signing him next season is going to be difficult as well but this season I reckon it's near about impossible. Would love it if I turned out to be wrong.

You would have thought Dortmund could be tempted for a high enough figure then, if it allows them to sign the right replacements.

From the point of view of clubs who want his signature, they are going to need to be forking out a hell of a lot either way. Obviously he'd cost a lot more to a club this summer, but he won't be a cheap buy next summer either, when the inevitable bidding war starts over his terms.

I'm going into muppet mode already aren't I...

Its tough not to when you're talking of players like Reus.

And yes, I agree, sign him for 60mil now or pay 35mil next year with maybe 10mil odd to him and his agent for the deal on top of much higher wages. Clubs should be interested.

Reus is my muppet dream for the the summer. If we want to splash the cash for a marquee signing then Reus is ideal. He would inject much needed pace and goals into our attack.

I wouldn't place much emphasis on those comments however.Like Kroos he is in a contract negotiation, obvoiusly he is neither going to confirm or deny that he is leaving.

I just think that if we were genuinely in for Bale last summer for the silly figures mentioned, there might just be a chance...

They wouldn't accept bids for Lewandowski.....why would Reus be any different, it's not like they learned their lesson either since Lewandowski made it so clear like 18 months ago, and they still could of gotten £35m FROM the team he went to free, and didn't. Only getting Reus when a clause kicks in, and not a Suarez type clause.

We can definitely afford him, of that I have little doubt. But I reckon we'd be more favorable towards paying a high fee now and reasonable wages rather than participating in a "pay the agent and pay massive wages" war next summer. Assuming he leaves ofcourse.

SportBild had an article this week about his future: they said that Dortmund wants to buy his clause and extend the contract. He is not keen on that atm. He talks about big titles next season which he wants to win with Dortmund(like Bale he just won 1 in his career, this season against us in the Super Cup).
The Meisterschaft is his goal. Not sure how realistic that is. Dortmund is always great against us. Lost many points this and last year against weaker teams. Last season cause of the CL and because we ran away with it. This season they had BIG injuries. The gap, despite our monster teams, is getting smaller. They could win it next season. We are due some bad luck in the league.
If they develope more in 2014/15 I can see him stay. Bayern wanted him in 2012 and he went to Dortmund. He is a fan after all.
This summer no chance. You would have to bid 60+ to get him. They built on and around him.
He is worth 60 imo. 25 all of next season. More scorers then Bale this year and has now 3 real top years behind him.
Can see Real and Barca sniffing around. He is a younger, easier Suarez. Could be better then him too.
