Not when it doesn't cost that much to get him it doesn't. The man is playing for a team arguably now in the shit. Why are we throwing stupid money at them. Would only take around €35 m with Woody doing the deal.

lol. sure it would.

Well he's staying put then isn't he. No one else will be willing to pay more than that.
He's staying put because he wants to. That's why he extended his contract even though he had a release clause that allowed him to leave for 25m Euro this summer. It's certainly not because no one would pay more than 35m Euro, which is laughable.

Well clearly no one was willing to pay the 25m which is why he signed a new contract and no one has actively chased him this window either. If they big boys wanted him he would be off same goes to Hummel's and Gundogan. Can't believe people on her still think these 3 are loyal..

Why the assumption that nobody chased him this window?

 . Lumping those three together is pretty silly and makes no sense at all. Gündogan clearly is a very different case and I doubt anyone is naive enough to believe he stayed out of loyality to Dortmund. Reus and Hummels clearly are different cases though and you're deluding yourself if you think that no English club was interested and willing to pay 25m Euro for Reus this summer.

Reus isn't exactly your typical inverse foward. And he isn't all about counterattacking with pace anymore either. Before Kagawa joined them he was set to fill Dortmund's no10 position, his playmaking skill have improved a lot. I believe he can play any AM position and as a supporting striker (afaik Tuchel wants to use him as a lone striker too now) very well and it's probably more about how his team plays than his own position, because he tends to roam a lot anyway.

How has he performed after his injury?

The suggestion that no one would pay 25m for Reus is ridiculous. He has been chased ever since his first year at Dortmund and this hasn't stopped.

It's true Gündogan didn't stay out of pure loyalty alone. After his long injury crisis of course no one told him they'd buy him to slot straight in as a starting CM for a title winning club. So he decided to stay and see what happens at Dortmund under the new coach. But even then he extended his contract only so Dortmund would still get money for the transfer next season. He could have just as well let his contract run out next season (would've run out this season had he not extended it before already) and claimed some nice hand money for himself when transferring on a free. He didn't do it though and will now play at Dortmund for another year and they will get millions for him if he moves.
I'm honestly not quite sure about Hummels, but everything related to him is pure speculation anyway.

To get back to Reus though, he extended his contract until 2019 without a release clause before the window even opened. With your quote above you're only spreading false facts and speculations. Reus has been approached by Bayern multiple times since he's been at Dortmund and he's always said he'll stay at Dortmund based on loyalty to the club. There'd be countless other top clubs wanting him if he was on the market. After all in top form together with Neuer and Müller he's perhaps the best player Germany currently has. But by extending the contract before any of these rumors even came up again he basically closed the case early to give Dortmund security in planning. All of his interviews have shown nothing but love for his club and loyalty.

Was he not supposed to be a free transfer this season before he decided to renew for a year as no club decided to pay him what he allegedly wanted?

Nope, Gündogan had one year left and extended until 2017.

How has he performed after his injury?

Well unfortunately he had several injuries this season, but if you take those and the form of his team into account I think his season was good.

Cheers for the info. Would be interesting to know how he fares under the new manager.

Not really, other teams could have activated the release clause of 25m this summer. He agreed for new contract before the clause could be activated. His new agreement doesn't have any release clause. Contract is till 2019 now.

I'm not I'm sure they probably was, us included difference is he signed his contract and even Dortmund's current situation no one has decided to pursue him now that he would cost significantly more.

Or maybe there is no news because his extension (and the statements around it) categorically ruled out any moves this summer?

Okay I got carried away with the €25m which was stupid cheap but at the end of the day if clubs were really interested him signing a new contract would have meant nothing but a helping hand to Dortmund.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say? He wasn't interested in moving, signed a new contract without a release clause even though he could have left relatively cheap. It's just plain obvious that he wanted to stay and killed all rumours long before the transfer window opened. That's it. Maybe he would have left for Real or Barca if there was a spot in their attacking line-up open, which wasn't the case. But that's a totally different story to 'no one would pay more than 35m Euro for him', when Douglas Costa or Wilfred Bony moved for about that money; Firmino was more expensive and Sterling cost almost twice as much.

Well given the Prices paid in nowadays market I would say Reus is worth at least 70 Mio EUR (50 Mio Pounds).

I am surprised that Bayern did not try everything possible to bring him in. Perfect replacement for Ribery.

I believe they tried last summer, I wanna say he signed a new contract then.

He's a Dortmund kid and youth product, he may be unwilling to play for Bayern, or any other German club.

IMO the new Ribery is Hazard...but I think in time he is destined for Spain.
Yeah, Hazard is the closest to Ribery out there. But there's no chance for us to sign him, he'll either stay at Chelsea or move to Real/Barca. That's just the way it is.

That's what I'm saying he wasn't interested in moving because there wasn't anyone of real purpose after him like that. There is amicable space for him at a club like ours, Chelsea's, City's before Sterling and PSG. At the end of the day they would rather blow money on other targets.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. Real and Barca are simply a level above all English, German, Italian and French clubs in terms of attracting most players. Similar to how I wasn't worried about United's interest in Kroos, but stated early he'll be off if Real or Barca show interest. From what Reus said over the years, I believe he would have considered a move to Spain, if there was a spot open at one of the two Spanish giants. But he clearly wasn't just looking for an upgrade on Dortmund and wanted to leave, he prefered to stay despite interest from many 'bigger' clubs, that's why he signed a new contract without a release clause. There were more than enough rumours surrounding a move to Chelsea, City and Bayern and they all were killed once he had extended. It makes zero sense that none of those clubs would have been interested in him for the 25m Euro release clause or 35m Euro or whatever small number in today's market you want to use.

Yes but the interest was only high because of the value why else would they just stop. I really was only giving figures because someone above thought some twit of a club would put a €60m bid to try and get this guy. Not going to happen.

Reus will only leave for an elite level team. He's too established as a top player to go to Liverpool. Madrid, Barca, Bayern are more his level.

And he will not leave to an elite team as he has to fight for a spot there - that is why he did not go before. And the elite teams often have tactics that do not really suit him.

And - the contract Dortmund gave him has about similar conditions as one he might have gotten e.g. in Munich.

I don't know which is funnier. Someone claiming no one would have paid reus's release clause had he not signed a new contract or that scousers think he would move to them.

Who said that.

You said he extended only because no one was paying the release clause.

Because he decided to stay at Dortmund, signed a new contract without a release clause? Therefore his agent maybe stopped talking to other clubs? Do you really believe clubs just throw around huge bids without ever asking the agent or the player first if they're even interested? Yeah, often enough papers make stories up without any basis to it, but even most papers realised that it makes zero sense to throw around rumours, when it's so obvious that he's staying. Well, until the Metro came along of course and thought that Reus to Liverpool is a believable rumour.

Clubs contact the player or his agent first and determine whether they'd move. Only then do they negotiate with the club. I hope you realise that. Once he signed a new contract removing the low release clause which would have in turn given him extra wages and signing on fee, it was clear he was staying. Even if a club was still interested, they would contact him first and if they got a No, there would be no bids.

Apart from the fact that you're throwing around false assumptions in this thread related to a player you don't appear to know much about it sounds like you don't rate him highly.
I'd love to hear what you think would be an acceptable fee for Reus.

I do actually said we should buy him if Di Maria goes. His quick, has great interchange of play could work well with Herrara for instance and a far superior finisher to the rest of our wing options bar Mata... But he won't be going for over €50m. I can bet on that.

Di Maria out, Reus in would be my ultimate fantasy for the rest of the window. He's a world class forward.

Once again who said that? Read what you said and what I put.

You said he only extended because no one was paying 25mil for him. I have bolded it for you. It would help if you be less pedantic and focus more on the point you were making.
