Marco Reus

For Madrid and Bayern to be favorites for his signature one of Robben, Ribery, Bale or Ronaldo have to move on

Isn't he a Dortmund fan? Or at least came up through their academy? Not that it makes much difference i suppose. Bayern could still turn his head with 3 or 4 times his current salary.

He'd be mad to go to Madrid with Ronaldo, Bale, Isco and James there. No clue which he'll choose though, always thought he was nailed on for Barca for ages but then this ban came along.
Yep, think he's a boyhood Dortmund supporter.

Spot on about Madrid. He'd go there and sit on the bench. To be honest, and it sucks to say as I'd love him here, but he'd be an absolutely perfect fit for both City and Chelsea. He'd be a massive upgrade on either Navas or Willian. Not even sure where he'd play and start every match for us.

Does Reus ever play on the right for Dortmund or Germany? Chelsea aren't going to move Hazard for anybody so presumably he would have to play on the right if he went to Chelsea.

We're still a long way behind the queue. Chelsea, Bayern, City and even perhaps Arsenal are ahead of us.

I'm sure United can offer bigger wages to Reus and if needed, a bigger fee to Dortmund than any of those clubs to seal the deal.

It's all about the player's preference.

We have no wingers so he would absolutely start for us. It would also put an end to the 352.
And which of our star attacking players will be sat on the bench every match? Sell Mata?

Certainly not Reus.
Exactly what I mean. Reus is a nailed on starter and I don't see why he'd want a move somewhere where he'd be in and out of the XI so often (like Bayern, RM, or even here).

What I meant was if he came here he would be a nailed on starter, just like Di Maria is.

So does that mean £37m Mata would ride the bench? RvP, Falcao? Someone wouldn't be happy.

Yes someone wouldn't be happy so what? When Di Maria comes back to full fitness someone isn't going to be happy anyway.
But in LVGs preffered system he plays with two quick wide men in a 433, so Rues and Di Maria will likely start (if we signed Rues)

.......Blind
Herrera...Di Maria
.......Mata
...Rooney...Reus

Next season: Falcao doesn't prove his worth and the deal is cancelled and RVP is a fine sub.

I always thought that he will go to Madrid, but, honestly, if a player is intellectually overstrained with the daily life, it might be better if he stays in Germany where he is able to understand the language.

Midfield looks really lightweight.

Don't Atletico play with Koke and Turan out wide?

I'm not sure, they've also got Antoine Griezmann, but I guess Reus is an upgrade on any of them. For the price of his buyout clause, he is an absolute bargain for anyone.

I'm surprised there isn't more noise about City. I think when you weigh up styles of play, he'd be a great fit there. Him Silva and Aguero would be an incredible line up.

But obviously I hope he either joined us, went to Russia or stayed with Dortmund.

Yeah, like I mentioned above he'd be brilliant at City or Chelsea.

Remember over the past few years Dortmund have been one of, if not the best pressing and counter attacking sides in Europe. In that sense, imagine him opposite Hazard in that Chelsea side. They already play a similar style there.

It would be great, if for once, a player stayed at Dortmund. I truly feel sorry for that club... Unfortunately, I don't think Reus will stay. I just hope he doesn't go to Bayern or England.

Just go to Madrid; one of Bale or Ronaldo will surely have to leave then :p

I can't see Van Gaal continuing with a 442 diamond next season. I just this is a bit of a stop gap, as our side is pretty unbalanced, as Van Gaal has stated in the past. Ideally, if we're to get the right personnel, I can imagine Van Gaal will want to play his favoured 433 formation. If we were to get Reus, I can imagine something like:

De Gea
Rafael - Smalling - Godin? - Shaw
Carrick
Strootman? - Rooney
Di Maria - Falcao - Reus?

And you could get all three players for the price of Bale, perhaps even less. Id go all out for those three, that team is a team that can challenge in Europe.

For some reason under Fergie we could never get a top German player in (cant count Hargreaves) I hope LvG can get a couple in. They are technically superior players and very strong too. I hope we get two or three in with Reus being one.

That's a mouth watering lineup. And we'd have great cover on the bench helping us to fight on multiple fronts. Don't make me dream, man. :(

Looks like a great lineup even though I'm still not convinced Falcao has show enough for us to pay 60M € for a 29 year old. I would rather we stick with RvP for the time being and look at younger options to follower him may it be Wilson or some major talent we bring in.

Robben and Ribery will be 31 and 32 years old by the end of this season. Bayern makes perfect sense to me, and that's where I expect he'll be going.

Let's offer him Falcao wages.

With FFP and Barcas ban, I think only Real have more clout in the transfer market than us. Of course, being German he may well choose Bayern, a fantastic team and giant club.

Finally though, we look like we will pay top end market rates and when we do we are a real draw. Only the Spanish duopoly wold be beat us to players consistently imo.

No idea how reliable this Juan Gato guy is, but he has said on some Spanish Sports show (Punto Pelota) that Atletico thus far has been the only club to agree a deal with Reus.

The closest description I can give for him is Balague-lite. He's a gossip journalist specialising in Atletico, gets some stories right, gets more stories wrong. He first ran with this story in the summer when he was on a chat show on Radio COPE. The "real" Atletico journalists basically ignored it and Atletico's chairman denied it.

Punto Pelota used to have a good audience, and some actual reporters, but the entire cast left them a year or so ago. I'm guessing they were doing an Atletico gossip round-up. According to that article the deal with Reus is, "If nothing goes wrong like it did last summer." Which is probably true for a lot of players and clubs.

That is a damn fine team right there.

I always got the impression that was because Fergie wasn't a big fan of Germans for rather old fashioned reasons

According to Sport Bild
Dortmund want of course to extend the contract with Reus but he'll not get a new buy-out clause. Reus and his agent will not sign a new contract under this conditions.

Reus is trying to enforce a contract that's constructed in the same way Götze's contract was. It's basically an escape ladder for him, BVB are more or less fecked because he'll escape them anyway in the summer due to his current contract for some very, very silly money. If I were them I'd simply sign the contract on his terms and insert a release clause that's 30-40 mil euro higher than the current one and simply cash in, it's inevitable he'll leave them.

That sounds like Reus is actually interested in staying after this season, which I highly doubt. The only possible scenario I could think of is that he's really waiting for his dream move to Barca, so he has to stay for one more year at Dortmund and sit out the transfer ban. Obviously in that case, he'd want to play for a significantly increased salary next season. If that's the case, Dortmund should just take the bullet and go with it. I understand that they want to move forward as a club and denying release clauses in principle is a necessary step. But giving Reus a new contract with a new and higher release clause that won't come into effect before 2016 would give them at least some stability for this summer. They could really need that now.

If the release clause in his contract is the same as it was with Götze, someone has to trigger it before the end of April this season, which would cause major troubles during the run-in again. They should avoid that at all costs in the situation they're in at the moment.

Why is there such noise that Reus's likely destination is Bayern, Barca or Real. Who would he actually replace there, no-one as Ribery and Robben are still at the top of their game, Barca's trio is not going anywhere and Real won't get rid of Bale or Ronaldo.

I don't get it, he's as good as most of them but I can't seem him starting, Gotze was different as him and Muller seem to share the role a bit, but can't see any of the 3 clubs doing that for Reus.

Barcelona cannot sign players until 2016, it's fair to say he won't be going there. Real will always find a way to squeeze a player into their team and Bayern will have plenty of options of using him plus it would further weaken an already below par Dortmund side.

Yeah. Barcelona is out of equation. I don’t think Madrid will sign him, unless they sell Bale. Bayern seems to be the most obvious destination but regarding their rivalry and weakening the opponent, honestly I don’t think they care that much about Dortmund right now, as they are 17th in the league.

I’m not sure if that’s reasonable but I think with LvG our chances of landing a german player increased. Reus is my muppet signing.
