Marco Reus

Release clause only kicks in in 2015. Won't leave before then unless for Bale money. He's a Dortmund fan too.

I've wanted him for ages, you've no idea how good he would look in our side considering the "wingers" we've had to put up with this season.

Oh I do have an idea; it's a beautiful thought. Him on the left, Mata in the middle, Januzaj on the right with Rooney/RvP up front and we could see a complete change to our team's attacking dynamics. His pace is absolutely unreal.

Are they likely to sell him this summer, in an attempt to get more than the release clause for the following year, or will they hold on to him and let him for €40m or whatever it is the following summer?

They're trying to get him to sign a new contract that gets rid of the clause. But I don't think they'll let him leave this summer unless for silly, silly money. Lewa is leaving and Gundogan will probably leave as well. They won't let 3 of their most important players go in one season.

Thing is though, he'd look good to start with but then the Moyesification would soon take place and he'd end up looking like a very expensive Adam Johnson with a cool hairstyle.

How likely is it they lose Gundogan as well as Lewa this summer?

Huge shame what's happening to that team.

That's the question they need to ask themselves, and ask the player himself: How committed is he to this team, and does he see himself staying beyond 2 years? If £40-45 mil came in from us this summer with a tripling in wages for him, how far does his loyalty stretch? That money is good for both the club and the player, and we get one of the best wingers in the world. If I was in Dortmund's position, I would consider who he could be replaced with with £40 million to spend next summer, as well as trying to convince him to commit to a longer term contract.

All hinges on that really.

Reus Mata Kagawa
Rooney
With Januzaj and Welbeck as subs would be utterly sick.

It's as important we sign a winger of his quality as it is any other position IMO.

This is what I think. If we are going to stick with Moyes, then wing must be a priority, as he clearly bums the thought of using wing play as our dominant form of attack. Buying him and Shaw in one season to mould would be an excellent move, and with Januzaj and Rafael on the right we would have far more creativity than Young and Valencia ever did.

Wouldn't be against selling Robin to partially found this signing (if it can happen on the first place). Him, Shinji and Mata behind Rooney would be one of the best attacks in the world.

Reus is a really joy to watch, last season I think only Ronaldo and Ribery were better than him as inside forwards.

Ridiculously talented, that. Swap deal for Kagawa my arse. Just stump up more money and hope for the best. That front four is potentially insane.

Money + Kagawa should do it. I hope it does.

No, it won´t. Reus won´t leave in the summer and even if he would, I doubt he would join United this year. If he does not renew his contract and is ready to get rid of his 35 Mil. € release clause, the European elite clubs will line up for him in 2015, because he will be an absolute steal for that kind of money.

United can´t offer him CL football in the next season and he said several times that playing in that competition is his greatest motivation.

Want Reus so badly, but I would not be happy with any swap with Kagawa.

Throw cash at them. Cash I tell you!

How likely is it that he'll renew his contract? Or will he be waiting to see how next season fares with the loss of Lewandowski first before making a decision?

Actually I see Reus in a big city when he moves - more one of the guys that will go to London etc.

Trade RVP for him, they'll need a striker with Lewa leaving ;)
Seriously though, he's been one of my favourite players for years but there's no chance. Doubt he'll leave Dortmund for the foreseeable future, even next summer when his clause becomes active.
Think he'll stay there as long as Klopp is at Dortmund, no reason for him to leave really. Gundogan and Lewandowski leaving this summer will hurt them but Klopp has shown how good he is at finding the right players to suit his system and replace them. Anyways, Reus will forever be my #1 football manager signing every year so if we don't see him at United in real life, he'll do in FM

I think it's more realistic that we'd sign someone like Lallana instead if we're lucky...it's going to be a lot harder than many think to get some of the players we want without CL football

He's pretty much my favourite non-United player. I understand how you feel. The chances of United beating the other European elites to his signature is slim to none, especially if we aren't in the CL. If we do sign him in real life, I wouldn't know how to deal with my emotions

Let's just say the tissue box would be out on that day...

For my tears of joy, lol

With wages at around 200k and a hefty agent fee it won't be that much of an issue. That's up to the club, however. As has been shown at clubs of far lesser standing and reputation, money rules.

Well, let´s just say, that out of the star players of Dortmund he and Hummels are the most likely ones to stay for a longer time. Both clearly identify themself with the club and are lead players (the last one of those to leave was Sahin, but that was a different time). Hummels has been one for several years now, but there is a clear shift in Reus´ attitude in this season. He has become more vocal as a representer of the team and on the pitch. He demands responsibility and is living up to that. Does not really seem like a player who is on the jump.

I expect that the officials of Dortmund will go to the absolute limit salary wise not only because of his skills on the pitch but also because of the identification factor for the fans. Personally I would be gutted to see him leave next season (more so than for any other player who left in the Klopp era), because I really like his polite and down to earth personality. Someone who seems to have the heart in the right spot.

City signed Yaya/Aguero/Silva etc all without CL football, Monaco picked up Falcao/Rodriguez/Moutinho and PSG did the same when they began recruiting. If players see a club has a clear plan to invest they can put up with 1 year outside of the competition especially if we offer them better wages. Reus certainly won't be on anything close to what we could offer him at Dortmund.

Yeah, I just can't see him leaving in the near future to be honest. No reason to as long as Klopp is there, as you'll be competing for trophies, playing good attacking football and he'll be the key player in attack. It's not like Dortmund offer shit wages, you may not higher huge wages but if you need to like with Reus potentially then I'm sure you would. Not to mention that he's a boyhood Dortmund fan and grew up there, unlike Gotze who's family were Bayern fans apparently and came from Bavaria.

Didn't he give a 'come and get me' plea to Barca?

Revised your opinion yet? His pace which we lack and those goal stats...

He's tempting but my concern still stands. We've got Mata and Januzaj and none of them deserves to be placed on the bench.

In my opinion the squad is unbalanced. We've got too many no 10s (Kagawa, Mata and Rooney). If we can free space then all well and good.

Well, we are an European "Elite" club. It's one bad season, don't be too quick to cross us off the list.

I think if we are ready to pay a significant sum of money, with Kagawa added to the deal, than it can be a possibility. A deal that amounts to 20-25 Mil. € more than his release clause is a good deal. BVB are in the habit of making statement like they did with Lewandoski, though they would have learned that in the end they do not really matter.

What they have to worry about anyways? They have Klopp, a man who turns dust into gold, and a world class scouting system can easily find another gem for peanuts. Right?

Thought as much. It would be nice if he was a possibilty, he looks so suited to play at United and the kind of player we'd all adore. Still at least it's not a position we are absolutely desperate in.

We need to keep in mind that BVB offered Reus major money to get his buy-out clause out of the contract (with or without an extension), but he refused. If I recall correctly their CEO Watzke even called it 'the first and most important topic of business' after the lost CL final in Wembley. As of now their considerable efforts came to no effect which is why statements about Reus like 'BVB youth product and lifetimer' as well as 'black & yellow at heart' sound nice, but the facts remain the same. He wants to keep the option to leave BVB in 2015 even if it costs him a lot of money.

That's always a very bad sign for any club when a player behaves in such a way.

That being said, I'm not ruling out an extension, I just think a transfer is just as likely. BVB's development over the next 15 months will be probably key to his decision.
