I think you need better than he's shown, for starters. Simple as that..

I don't expect players of Casemiro's quality as first, second and third choice. But your first backup should be good enough that there isn't a significant drop off in quality. See City, Madrid etc.

Id be happy with him as 3rd/4th choice. Sub appearances to rest starters when games are won, or against lower league opposition in cups. But I would hope we could get a youngster to do that, either in-house or for your similar 20m to do that, and hope they get better and push to be starter with game time, rather than spending it on someone who is 30 next year. FFP will not be on our side considering how much we'll have to pay for a striker or other midfielder. 20m on Sabitzer is far too much.

No interest in him as someone to come in for a big game when Casemiro is suspended or when Eriksen or whoever we sign is injured.

He's a good rotation option, he could come in well enough for cover. £20m nowadays, if true, is a good deal. And to say he has been anynomous in every appearance bar now is just ridiculous. But crack on and expect us to spend £60m on a backup CM

Exactly we don’t need him, we already have Mcfred who don’t really fit in so why do we need another player. Last night and against Everton we have had to play Bruno out of position because likes of Mctominay and Sabitzer have to be accommodated into the side.

We need a backup for Casemiro and a starter instead of Eriksen that’s what the money should go towards.

(Not to derail this thread, but..) Ole wasn’t knee jerk. His full time contract was very much merited at the time, and there was a clamour for it from this board too. His renewal was probably a mistake in hindsight however.

I expect he has a lot more to offer than we have seen but without a preseason or even much opportunity at all to integrate with the squad and Erik's tactics due to games every 3 days, he is just trying not to feck up and add value where he can. Erik will be getting a closer look at him in training and of course will have done his homework on his time at Leipzig and Bayern and he will ultimately know if there is a role in his team next season for Sabitzer, I am happy either way.

We got him on loan because he was surplus to requirements at another elite club. Yes it happens but the fact he’s come to the club not being good enough to play CM for Bayern to then play for us and show that his best position is further forward is as big of a hint as you can get that if we want him it shouldn’t be as a CM option and therefore maybe we evaluate the signing correctly.
