I think it's best to just let the season play out and see how he does. Otherwise there's a tendency to flip flop around on whether he should be signed for what is a very modest fee after each and every game. It's tempting because he's cheap but that shouldn't lead to buying unless it makes footballing sense too. He's not the ideal style of player considering what we currently have, but you never really know how ETH sees the market and who will leave.

Bayern don't have a very good team at the moment, they have struggled.
Bayern don't have a very good team? Besides City I can't think of a squad stronger than Bayern currently.

To give an example in the match against Dortmund they subbed in Mane, Gnabry, Musiala, Cancelo and Gravenberch. While still having Mazraoui and Blind without minutes.

That's ridiculous depth.

Sabitzer is a solid squad man for a club of United's aspiration of competing for the PL and CL trophies, but not a regular starter.

Bruno and Casemiro and nailed on regular starters. Fred and Erikson and nailed on regularly featured/periodic starters.
Then we have Donny. He's got something in his game but it hasn't worked for him at OT and he should be sold.
McTominay divides opinion. I'm not on board with McTominay, although he does come up with the belter of a goal here and there.
Then we have three young midfielders -- Hannibal, Iqbal and Mainoo -- and I just haven't seen enough of them to form an opinion about them but a hard decision has to be made about their futures.
If we can pull it off at a reasonable cost, I'd like to keep Sabitzer while we sell McTominay to Newcastle. But we'd still need an actual CDM to cover for Casemiro and we'd still need an upgrade on Eriksen.

That last paragraph is exactly why much as I would like to see him get longer with Casa and Eriksen where does he fit into either of our midfield issues (backup CDM & progressive CM)

He's done quite well for us but i'd much rather we used that money towards a technical possession controlling midfielder. Someone like Orkun Kokcu or Enzo Le Fee (a slightly different type of player). If Sabitzer is the kind of player we want then Tielemans is going on a free and is probably better.

i'd add 19 year old Alex Scott (Bristol City) to your list. Scott looks an absolutely fantastic young midfielder who looks absolutely superb at carrying/dribbling the ball and connecting/combining with team mates. Technically a superb player who has the tools to develop into a Frenkie de Jong type connector in the build up phase.

The bar seems to have been set really high with this guy for some reason by many fans. Our midfielders in particular over the last decade have been given chance after chance to prove worthy and few have deserved the time they were given.

He has not played badly in any game, has a fantastic work rate and attitude, has not needed ridiculous amounts of game time to adapt and has rarely played in what you would call a full strength team. For the money we would be paying - it’s a bloody no brainier. aAllows us to throw a shed load of cash at a proper CDM cover.

Sabitzer/Fred/Eriksen/Mebrij/Casemiro/CDM - for two positions….excellent depth.

would like to hear about some viable alternatives before looking beyond this top top pro who has barely put a foot wrong, who we are yet to see the best of and who is available on the cheap!
He barely put the foot wrong but he hardy impressed either, the problem is we're stacked with players who can do what Sabitzer does. At best he's an offensive #8 and I think he's actually closer to #10/second striker. I just don't see why we need him and how he is getting any minutes next season. Would rather play 3 man midfield and attacking front 3 than pretend we always need to have #10 like Sabitzer/van de Beek.

He's not what we need IMO. You can see when Sabitzer joined Ten Hag played him in deep midfield, and now he's actually the most advanced midfielder (last 2 games played ahead of Bruno and McTominay). He was supposed to be Eriksen backup but he clearly does something very different (despite his really good passing ability).

Our problem again is we have a plethora of #8/ #10 hybrids in Mctom, Sabitzer, Bruno & even Eriksen really, Fred is an #8 but is b2b with energy, what we need are more #6 for balance so whether we keep Sabitzer or not depends on what happens with other members of our squad, I don't think we should look for a new #8 though, I'd have:

#6 (Defensive/ Ball Winning Mids) Casemiro, X
#8 (Ball Carrying/ DLP) Fred/ Sabitzer
#10 (Creation) Eriksen/ Bruno
I would swap Eriksen and Sabitzer here. Sabitzer really isn't a ball carrier/DLP, closer to second striker IMO.

on cities radar apparently

We might not have seen the best from him yet but I feel we should persevere, he’s definitely a quality player and capable of making a big impact in the midfield with terrific passing ability. My guess would be to put him a central attacking position or use him as a false 9. £20-25m seems reasonable.

If we can pay less for him than we'd sell McT for then he would be a worthwhile addition to the squad.

I follow Bristol City as well as Utd and he is absolutely class. He’ll be a top level prem player for sure and I’d be very excited if Utd were to go for him. Can see him perfectly filling into that deeper role that Bruno has been playing in recently and provide cover for both Bruno and Eriksen generally.

He’s incredibly versatile and can pretty much play any creative role in the Center of the park, be it as a DLP, Roaming playmaker/no. 8 or a more advanced 10. He has also played wide on either wing and even at right wing back on occasion when he’s had to fill in on the ogame due to injuries.

More realistically I see him playing it safe and making a stepping stone move to a mid table team for his own development, but crazier things have happened.

At £25m (that’s the price Nigel Pearson has quoted in press conferences) he’ll be a great signing for whoever gets him.

He needs a thread of his own (apologies if he already does), boy looks a proper gem and exactly what we should be looking for.

He's better than McTom but not overly impressed so far. Has a few more months to turn my head though.

Would definitely love to see this type of player at United, I wonder if we could be shrewd and buy him but loan him back to Bristol City for a season or 2 for development.

I know for a fact that Bristol City would see that as a dream scenario.

Exactly what we won't get. We simply don't make these signings which begs the question of whether we are even on the lookout. Liverpool and West Ham both interested apparently.

That was then and this is now. Let’s hope things have changed.

We need this until the end of the season. Can finally give Bruno a rest.
