Marc Cucurella - World Class Hairdo

after one season at Chelsea, all players looked shite last season tbh, he turned into a super shit player on here. Remember he had a brilliant season at Brighton as was wanted by Pep as well !
Maguire was also wanted by pep. Even alexis sanchez who turned out to be shit at united, was also wanted by pep.

At some point City wanted him, and Chelsea paid pretty penny to get him, he had a shit season last year, but I am quite surprised Chelsea are willing to let him go and not give him another chance to compete with Chilwell, granted I don't watch Chelsea games, but is he really so bad that Chelsea are willing to let go of him instead of giving him another season to work under Poch?

I also don't see the reason for us to target him, we can have Dalot+Fernandez cover that LB spot until either of Shaw or Malacia are fit.

Can be quite easily trained out of him. Have to remember he was a beast for Brighton as much as he was a calamity for Chelsea.
I agree. Sometimes we forget that footballers are professionals and not pre-programmed robots.

I would be happy to have him here - but the question is - why would Chelsea be happy to let him go? Who is the next choice LB after Chilwell? Doesn’t this reduce their depth at LB?

Maatsen is second choice and Colwill can fill in as 3rd.

I rated him very highly at Brighton. To me he was one of the league best players outside the top six and would have fit in perfectly at City. Every Chelsea supporter I know consider him not very good after last season, maybe its just a case of a player walking into a terrible situation and getting caught up in it.

Yeah that's my thoughts too

Not the first or the last player that will go to Chelsea and lose their way. The Brighton player was probably the best in the league and didnt read much to suggest that Chelsea overpaid at the time....

Bullshit. It was pretty much universally agreed Brighton pulled out pants down and got us to overpay for Cucurella. City were after him and their price ceiling was around £35-40M which was more in line with his value at the time.

Just look at the first couple of pages. Many agreed he's a good player but still considered the fee to have been way over the top.

No matter how bad he was last season I still think there's a decent player somewhere under that massive head of hair though, but with Chilwell being our clear first choice (also vice-captain) and the cheap academy boy Ian Maatsen impressing Poch in pre-season we should do everything we can to get rid of Cucu.

Cucurella, very close to Manchester United. Loan

What’s the point getting him in when Shaw and Malacia will be back soon and we have Dalot?

Both he and Shaw, once fit, could provide cover at CB, so makes sense.

It isn’t a bad move at all if we can get anywhere close to his Brighton form back, but crucial word is ‘if’

Last I heard Shaw was injured for just over a month but we also have internationals which helps

Some talk he could be out for months. I doubt if Shaw was out for a month we would be looking at bringing in a player on loan.

I think we’re playing down the severity of Shaw's injury to try and retain some leverage in negotiations for a replacement.

ETH is a good manager but he is not very good at transfers. Someone needs to takeover that role from him.

There's nothing wrong with a loan deal if there is no obligation to buy. We can ship him back to Chelsea in January if things don't work out well, or have him train our U-19s.

If we could get the Brighton version of him then it could potentially be a great bit of business but that player looks long gone going off his Chelsea performances.

And what happens if AWB gets injured? We will then have to play Dalot at RB and Fernandez at LB who has never played in the Prem with no cover at all for either. There is a reason we are being linked to LB as it's an emergency situation and they would only be loans.

Definitely. No point in looking for alternatives if he is supposed to be out for only a month. Guess he's out till Nov/Dec and that's why we are in this emergency situation.

Sorry you are right, based on a couple of pages on here thats clearly universal? So the ceiling of 40m and paying 50m amounts to 'pulling your pants down?' and 'way over the top'?

Ok, if you think that amounts to over-paiding, knock yourself out (especially considering Chelsea transfer strategy) but many thought irrespective of that, getting arguably one of the best LB's in the country was a good buy nonetheless.

Looks to be we are prioritising this over signing a midfielder, just hope we have time to still get one before Friday which looks 50/50

How bad is the Shaw injury that we need a LB? I’m guessing half season at minimum if we think Dalot can’t hold on until then? (Not sure what Malacia’s injury is)

Why do you think that? We can do both, this would be a loan and midfielder would be a purchase.

No issues with a loan. Get this done. It is a bit concerning that Shaw's injury has not been disclosed.

Cucurella and Alonso are two extremely underwhelming options, even on a short term loan.

Can we not manage short term with Dalot/Malacia as options for LB, and Dalot/AWB at right back? If everything goes to shit, Lindelof can cover RB as well.

If it's between Cucurella and Alonso, I'd rather younger option with some potential. Alonso would be such a depressing signing. Not that either excite me in the least.

The same way Mount and Havertz lost their way at Chelsea? Guy is not it, there's a reason they're getting rid.

Yep, similar to why they got rid of Salah and KDB too.....to name but a few. Not saying it will work out for both leaving but equally the pantomime of Stanford Bridge shouldn't be the barometer....
