Manuel Neuer

The thing about Neuer being a United fan, then wanting to win the Budes Liga contradicts.

Nothing has been confirmed, either to Bayern or to anywhere.

Like SAF, it was one of the best GK performances against us, even better than Friedel...

He was immense, but then again, it was just one game...

I hope SAF and Gill give him a personal tour of OT and especially to show them the trophy they won beating those Bayern cnuts.

I was thinkin something similar to this. Its a great opportunity for us to showcase the club to him when he comes next week. I guarantee ya that Bayern will try to do a deal before that. Old Trafford will be rockin on the return leg & by-jaysus - what player wouldnt be blown away, hopefully the crowd can chant his name loud & clear & make him think differently!

Bayern will make it to the Champions League though, there is a point between them and Hannover in the league as far as I remember and they are used to the pressure so I think they will overtake them eventually. Even if they don't, Neuer will still know it's only a temporary thing and they will be back in it next season so I doubt it will be that much of a deal to him.

Where's he said that?

You're confusing him with another German goalie. Rene Adler is a United fan, not Neuer.

Apparantly Adlers a fan...

He was a bit of a cnut against us last night. (in that good keeper way) Keepers have done that over and over against us yet he still did conceed 2 goals.

I remember Akinfeev's performance against us at OT in the 3-3 vs CSKA Moscow. He was amazing yet in the end got beaten 3 times.

He had a good game, but none were saves that VDS couldn't do. None of the saves match that one save VDS had against Everton with Rodwell's deflected shot. I wouldn't assume that he's the best keeper in the world just because of one good game against us. Since he's going to Bayern, then that's that.

I'm more concerned with who we have really lined up in the summer. IMO all signs point to De Gea, and I wonder if we're taking a bit of a risk with such a young keeper.

Smikes agrees with me....

Schalke’s Neuer gets big wraps from Man Utd great Schmeichel

Former Manchester United star Peter Schmeichel has heaped praise on FC Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

The Danish great feels that German number one Neuer, who performed impressively for Schalke in last night’s Champions League loss to United, would be the perfect replacement for retiring Dutchman Edwin van der Sar.

“He (Neuer) is probably the best goalkeeper in the world," Schmeichel said on Sky Sports News.

"He is 25 years of age. He's been captain for that team for a number of years. He is very mature in the way he plays.

"He doesn't make mistakes - I haven't seen him make a single mistake - and the way he played yesterday, he wasn't lucky in the way that he saved the shots and one-on-ones, it was very calculated.

"I just thought his overall game was fantastic and absolutely well-suited for Manchester United."

And Schmeichel added that Neuer’s trip to Old Trafford next week may convince him to choose the English giants when he leaves the Veltins-Arena in the summer.

"Maybe he (Neuer) will have another think," the Dane added. "He's seen what Manchester United are capable of first hand,” he added.

"He's going to Old Trafford on Tuesday and it's just such a special place to play.

"He will probably experience, if nothing happens within that week, an Old Trafford crowd that absolutely welcomes him and sees him as the next goalkeeper for United."

Schalke

He isn't better than Van der Sar, so how is he best in a world? Showed great shot stopping. Great, so did Ben Foster.

I hope VDS stays another year, during which he will groom one of these youngsters to eventually take over.

then you didnt watch the game properly.

He had very good distribution. I remember some good breaks he started from both feet and hands.

Could easily beat the halfway line with a throw if you want to count that as a talent?

He was very good at coming of his line and collecting thru balls. Very good.

He can obviously command a team being captain? unless they have just done that to try and make him stay or something (a la Fabregas)

his shot stopping was very good as anyone could of noticed that last night.

He also has experience at a vast level to say hes 25. Firstly in Europe in the Champions League, for a top club (in that league) and also very importantly internationally. Hes been apart of U21 winning sides and Germanys World Cup campaign.

Other attributs. Hes rather tall and has a pretty big frame which gives him an edge over smaller keepers as a whole like Akinfeev and Casillas.

His age being 25. He has so much time to improve on such a promising career.

Never said he didn't have a promising career. Never said he wasn't a very good keeper.

Last night's performance doesn't mean he's best in the world, though.

It's more probable it was Alder, who is shit.

:wenger:

This thread really gets worse and worse. Neuer is better than Adler but in no way is he shit. But that's what happens when people comment on players they've probably seen once or twice at the very best.

And yes, Adler is a United fan. Neuer isn't and never was. He is a boyhood Schalke fan, has spent 20 years at the club and only four years ago he spoke about how as a kid he could never imagine to play for any other club than Schalke.

Schalke are away to Bayern this weekend. We should invade a Bayern forum and make up some quotes from Neuer saying how he hates Bayern so they give him a shit reception and then comes to OT and gets a huge cheer.

....It could work!

I think VDS's the best in the world... which is why Fergie's so desperate for him to say. From what I saw of Nueur...I wouldn't be too unhappy to see him at OT if the Dutchman's decides to call it a day.

That's the more reason for him not to mention his possible transfer to Bayern Munich yet. But if he is still quiet after that, we know we might have a chance. If that happens, like I suggested in this thread earlier, let's sing him a song 5 minutes before the end of the match at OT.

 I just hope the razors are properly stored when the transfer window has closed and he's not at United.

Niether would I, and I said he's my first choice a few weeks ago. I just find it funny that people are so desperate for us to get him following yesterday's game.

Yeah, but that's the Caf. I knew he'd become flavour of the month after his performance. To be honest, it's probably the first time I saw him play...I hope that performance wasn't some sort of an anomaly.

It's probably David De Gea

It's probably David De Gea

I personally hope so. Even if Neuer did look like the second coming of Peter Schmeichel last night, I get a sense that de Gea is and will be a special goalkeeper.
We can't be held to ransom for him either if he wants to leave because of his release fee. He's actually won more at 20 than Neuer has at 25 as well ;)

Lemti sent me the following information.

van der sar speaks
something for you to post in Neuer thread :

http://www.nusport.nl/champions-leag...-opvolger.html

last sentence translated (google translate) :

Would you recommend him as your successor at United?
"United has already made his choice. There is a successor, but I do not say who."

If the the successor has been really chosen, he s not Neuer for sure judging from what he said in the interview after the match.

My feeling is that United haven't yet reached terms with the "successor's " club.

Even if Neuer was signing, no way could the clubs, management or player say to this during the current stage. All kinds of speculation would mount if Neuer gifted his future club a goal or two. Or became ill. Or got sent off for tripping a player. Etc.

We have to at least try and perhaps play on what must be Schalke's preference not to sell him to another German club. No harm in trying.

Although I'd not read too much into public statements, especially by the manager. I don't think he's ever said anything other than 'no chance' to any piece of transfer speculation ever, even if we do end up signing them. It's an outside chance with Neuer but no harm in trying.

Yes, any announcements would have to come well after the second leg. If they come at all. They probably won't but if we heard anything within two weeks of the second leg, to avoid suspicion, I'd be surprised.

Fergie's usual response to transfer speculation is to say that he doesn't comment on it and that we get linked to tons of players. Unusual for him to refer to it in such a manner. But really, we'll have made a decision on who we're targeting for Edwin's replacement long ago. I personally don't see how last night's going to change anything one way or the other.
