Manuel Neuer

He didn't inspire me with confidence during the World Cup, mostly when coming for crosses and the like.

My dad's a Kraut so I've been following the Germans for as long as I can remember.

True he did look a little nervy but seemed to settle a little bit as the tournament progressed. As his first major tournament as Die Mannschaft's no 1, I think its a good stepping stone. He didnt do anything to make me think pull him ala Robert Green lets say.

Thomas Kraft let one in he should have had today for Bayern. Hopefully Bayern won't decide they need Neuer for themselves.

Kraft is still very young and will make mistakes. It all depends if the new manager is one who is willing to be patient with him or not.

For some reason, the US satellite was showing Hannover v Bayern instead of the live matches today. I've noticed they've been doing this frequently of late so I don't know if they've lost televising rights to live feeds or what. But I too was confused when I read in the weekend thread that Bayern were up 4-0 when I had saw them losing 3-1 earlier today. Then I realized that Hannover match had to be a rerun.

The Mail are running a story that we've decided on De Gea and Eric Steele is taking Spanish lessons in preparation.

The Mail link us with a different keeper weekly...a new player seemingly daily.

Eric Steele did travel with Fergie earlier in the season to watch Valencia -v- A.Madrid before we played them in the Champions League though. So I guess he was there to run the rule over De Gea then. But there have been reports he's watched Neuer numerous times as well.

I wouldn't mind either personally.

I don't see why Steele would learn Spanish anyway, surely De Gea would be learning English if he would be coming to England playing for an English speaking manager with predominantly English speaking players

edit: Also says he'd be £15m.. wishful thinking

Good example of what I meant when I talked about 'errors in decission making' a few pages back. Come for the ball, hesitate, run back and be late equals conceding a goal.

TBF, he couldnt expect teh striker to miss the ball and he obviously had to come out since his defenders were behind the striker... he looks stupid, but its not a basic error for me

From what I've seen Neuer would be prone to that happening quite a lot, as he's one of those sweeper keepers always out early to close down and get into people before they are set. If someone for example goes for a chip instead of a cross or throughball that he's suspecting it might catch him out.

With regards to De Gea, from what I've seen of Neuer the German is a better keeper for now. But I still have yet to see him put under real pressure from a cross.

I would prefer Fergie to save the dosh and gives a chance to Lindegaard to stake his claim as number 1

If it ain't work out, then buy

Our main English football pundit is a goalkeeping coach and a former goalkeeper as well. He judges goalkeeper like you do in tennis or golf. He said after the Valencia game that he's the best goalkeeper in the world now, on the same basis as Woods has lost his place. So he's in the top 5 constantly.

The man knows his football well and also works as an odds maker so he's a pretty good pundit and is the first man to point out if he's wrong. Also a big watcher of the Bundesliga being fluent in German so he's not talking out of his arse.

What I've seen of him I like. However I have the FM favoritism going on and that probably skews my judgement on him some what although I try to avoid that.

He's not even number 2 with Kuszczak here and was said by Steele to be Foster's replacement as the number 3 goalie. No way in hell he's gonna get the spot.

You Crazy... If it's one thing we have learnt from Schemichel to Van Der Sar is that we don't mess about with Keepers!! It's normally the difference from being a championship side. Ask Arsenal.

Also worth noting he got an assist at the weekend.

So, with Schalke now having sacked Felix Magath (who always stated Neuer was ''not for sale), it will be interesting to see how Neuer will react to the club's decision. A forum user on a decent Schalke forum has summarised the situation:
35%: Bayern Munich
30%: Man Utd
20%: Contract extension
15%: Nothing will happen this sommer

Neuer's bit too eccentric for my liking. Can be unbeatable on his day, but always capable of a clanger or two as well

Neuer not planning on moving abroad

:(
Neuer plant keinen Wechsel ins Ausland

Für Fußball-Nationaltorhüter Manuel Neuer vom FC Schalke 04 hat ein Wechsel ins Ausland keine Priorität.
Neuer told German magazine ''kicker'': ''Do you have to have played abroad as a professional footballer? Some players tend to think they do. I am not like that, I don't.''

Feck him and feck the horse he rides on.
Good news is that VDS is staying to be a coach. So feck Nuer or nuewre or whatever his name is, I had a feeling he will be another Torres, will stay at his home country for so long and then some Prem team will go and get him later when we don't need a keeper

It's weird* that, he doesn't really say anything that's even close to their headline.

*not really, it's a tabloid English newspaper, so it's probably expected.

He says he wants to win the Bundesliga and doesn't see why he has to leave Germany to play football. He goes abroad twice a year for his winter and summer holidays.

That sounds to me like he doesn't want to leave the Bundesliga. At least not until he's won it. And if he'll be bought after all than he'll always have the itchy fingers to go back home.

That is if what he says is actually meant a 100% and not just bad translation or lies.
