Manuel Neuer

Schalke 04 is doing relatively well in Bundesliga this season, so chances of them not qualifying for Champions is actually quite slim. Or so I hope anyway. Schalke is my favorite team besides United.

U sure ? A few weeks back they were almost in the relegation zone or something...

Now their 10th ?

I can't see them in Europe to be fair...

...or kicked the club's owl...

RRICTR's description is pretty spot on - Neuer celebrated like mad in front of the Bayern fans when Schalke drew their match at the Allian-Arena last season.

Uh oh, sounds like he's perfect for Arsenal

14 points off the third place in the Bundesliga - that would put them into the Champions' League qualifying round. Should they win the German Cup though, they will be playing in the Europa League next season.

Having seen him a few times this season, he's be my first choice now. There's no way we can take, say, Adler over him.

Dude, I said that in December 2009. As we all know, they're flying in the Champions League this season.

May not be the case next season, though.

From yesterday :

He could yet fill the gap left by Van der Sar's impending retirement, though, after Schalke chief Clemens Tonnies said: "I have been informed by an international consultant that United are interested in signing Manuel. Provided they submit a written offer, we will deal with the matter and give them permission to speak to him."

He hasn't really said anything of note here, just that when we table a bid (and it's accepted) we will be given permission to hold talks with Neuer which is actually relevant to all transfers.

It all depends on whether Neuer will actually make the step and move abroad. Some pundits on here suggest that he is not the type and will either remain at Schalke (extend his contract) or move only to Bayern.

He hasn't said anything about a potential United interest, so there's still hope.

wants to join Bayern Munich, but insists "anything is possible".

The Germany international, who has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, helped guide his side to a 1-0 win over Bayern on Wednesday, and he is now looking forward to the DFB Pokal final against local rivals Duisburg.

"We want to win the derby final in Berlin. We believe in ourselves," he told Sky.

"I did not say I want to go to the club," Neuer said of a possible future at Bayern. "Basically, anything is possible!"

Neuer's comments came after he was greeted by an unwelcome response at the Allianz Arena, where thousands of fans jeered him and held up signs stating "Koan Neuer" (no Neuer).

"It was natural that I looked at the ball and not at the signs. I wanted us to play a good game and we did," he added.

Hmm. So as he says, anything is possible.

If Schalke plays in europe next season then he signs a new contract i think.

Yeah but it's a very different tune to "Neuer is a Shalke player and will remain so, we have no intention of selling him"

1-0 loss for Schalke today, europe through the league looking more and more unlikely.

Though a German buddy says he'd be very surprised if Neuer didn't go to Bayern.

Schalke plays in the Europa League next season if they`re winning the cup final against Duisburg (2.Bundesliga).

Bayern is on course to this competition too at the moment......Leverkusen 7 points away and Hannover (with Zieler) 5 points away, still 9 games to go but Bayern are rubbish at the moment.

=

If Bayern aren`t playing next season in the UCL and Schalke plays in europe then maybe Neuer stays at Schalke at all.

Yeah I m just praying Bayern won't make the Champions League next year. I freakin' hate them. Hannover have a 5 point lead on them at the moment. And Mainz have a game in hand and are two points behind Bayern. Lets go Hannover and Mainz! Neuer, I doubt, will move to Bayern if they don't make the Champions League.

Leverkusen and Hannover and it's enough. Fourth place doesn't give you Champions League.

I know only three places are allotted to German teams but I want them to finish fifth. So if Schalke win their cup final, does that mean Germany is going to have three Europa league teams and not two?

Yap, I searched it on Wikipedia.

4th placed team and Cup winners in play off, 5th placed team in third qualifying round.

Yeah who was the lad who said last week he would prefer Asmir Begovic to Neuer or something like that? Begovic has a wonderful game against West Ham didn't he?

He's bloody brilliant. Watched a lot of the Schalke match and he made two great saves from one on ones and was in general commanding. The commentators were talking about how the German media believes he's United bound in the summer. Please be true

Honestly didnt have much to do over the two legs, which says something about Valencia's tactics and Emery's selection. Still yet to see him have to deal with something in the air under decent pressure and I've seen him a good 5 or 6 times now. Today he didnt have to deal with much pressure on crosses and just punched them out.

Which will be the case most of the times at United as well.

However when he had to do something he did it well. His two saves from Aduriz (or however you spell it) were great and he saved Schalke at that point.

And yes he did punch out a lot of crosses today. He seems confident though and his punches were good and strong. I'd take him over Reina, even though the latter is used to the PL

He looks good to me, I just dont know how good when I've only seen him having to deal with crosses where like 1 player is sort of interested at getting it but isnt going in with 100% conviction because they arent big aerial threats. I mean dealing with long balls from Stoke and some other premier league sides is another thing entirely. But like I say I've finally watched him a whole bunch of times... And still dont know. I guess you have to credit Schalke for restricting the amount of times he's tested like that, as well as the oppositions tactics perhaps not stretching him as much as I'd like to see.

Aduriz put it wide when he should have scored. Ricardo Costa's header was too powerful for Neuer to do anything about. He swept up quite well when Valencia might have got through otherwise. And he had 2 or 3 fairly easy punches that he got good contact on. Thats it really

He's my choice for us this summer. Dodgy positioning for Valencia's goal tonight I thought though.

I understand the fans want him to stay, and those signs says Man Utd Stay

I am. No really, I dont remember it. Possibly happened on one of the occasions I flicked to the spurs match

Some very quick hands. Very composed in the 1-on-1 and managed to save a shot from 2m very quickly. Not just a simple reflex save. Like one of the good ones we've seen from VDS this season.

whys that doc, if you dont mind me asking

He didn't inspire me with confidence during the World Cup, mostly when coming for crosses and the like.

My dad's a Kraut so I've been following the Germans for as long as I can remember.
