Manchester United vs Real Betis (Thu 1st August, 03:00 UK time)

it seems like we play better with that False 9, instead of pure striker.

Amad is so fun to watch. I truly hope he locks down the RW this season and reaches his potential. My kind of player.

Sancho, not so much. It's sad to watch his regression.

No one said we're going to win the EPL now ffs, stop exaggerating. We're just saying we're playing well, the system seems alot better, and that with alot of non starters playing. You're just being unnecessarily negative.
And some will argue there isn’t an unnecessary level of negativity on the forum at the moment. SadCafe!

Enjoyable half. Apart from Heaton trying his hardest in gifting them a goal we have been fine. Amad is on fire. Him starting against Arsenal and in this game even with Antony available tells you that he's above Antony in the pecking order. Barring injuries he's set to start the season as the RW.

Whisper it quietly but Rashford looks sharp. Making smart decisions that he didn't appear to make last season.

Very enjoyable half of football. We played well and deserve to be at least two goals up. Betis haven't deserved a goal - just gifted one with some sloppy play from us.

Other than that, we've looked in complete control and played well. Hard to fully enjoy it without keep remembering about the Yoro and Hojlund news, but the players out there have put in a good performance so far.

He does. Plenty of space afforded to us this match, but he looks on it. They also seem to be enjoying themselves. For a team that has 5-6 players out there in the shop window, they are playing pretty well collectively. Quick movement, quick passing.

We certainly do, and this was further demonstrated towards the end of last season when Bruno played in that position. It just clicked, and I believe this is why Ten Hag pursued Zirkzee.

How unhappy about life do you have to be to read a performance of 3-1 with the opponent having one sniff at goal as not good enough?

Despite the positive scoreline, I’ve been more impressed with the performance. Really in control and played some lovely stuff. Could easily be more than 3.

Only disappointing aspect was the goal we conceded. But we responded in the perfect manner & even before that goal they scored from our mistakes, we just stepped it up big time.

More of the same in the 2nd half please

Hmm I'd argue that we play better with more than 1 midfielder in midfield. The fact that this usually happens when Ten Hag plays a false nine for the most part is the explanation.

Yea irrespective of the space they are offering he's making the correct decision most of the time instead of running straight into the defenders which is already miles better than he was last season.

Amad at the end of the half wide open in space, frantically waving his arms for Maguire to just pass him the ball on the right, and of course Maguire doesn't (again) and passes left to Lindelof, leaving Amad exasperated.

Is Maguire blind in his right eye or something? I swear he's done it multiple times this game to Amad, and in general is so reticent in doing anything other than squaring back across to the left again.

Will the players start getting more minutes in this game like 60 or something? Or will it be another case of a full change at HT?

part of the empty seats is that the stadium has all these bar areas with pitch views. You can just hang out and stand to watch the game.

Well, that, but unlike every other year prior to this, there hasn't been one sell-out for anyone on the US tour. In fact, most games have been half-filled, whether it's in LA, Miami, New York, etc. For some reason the interest in one year has just plummeted.

I’ve never heard of that Rodri before today but after watching him for 30 mins I’m convinced we have to buy him.
Why, he's nowhere near as good as Amad or Garnacho or Rashford or Sancho on this showing

Surprised to see he changed keepers to start the game. That’s the first.

Loads more MLS teams maybe taking that demand.

To be fair to Maguire, he's probably most used to playing on the left so his peripheral vision is different.

442 shape out of possession is working for us.
Our fluidity is less than last season in deeper areas, which is good.
I'm linking what I'm seeing.
Amad looks really good, might surprise people with how much of a step up he takes. he always had good ideas, skills and movement, but not the physicality, that seems to have changed.

Pretty good first half, but the only one of these that should be starting really is Amad.

Ruud-effect?

I hope to god these aren't put into the new OT. Horrific.

It’s fairly common at MLS stadiums. It’s very cool from a fan fun and convenience perspective but it does thin out the crowd in the seats.
