Manchester United vs Perth Glory (Sat 13th July, 12:00 UK time)

Can we never play Martial at striker again please, he always looks shit there. His position is lw, pretty much every great performance he's had has been from that position. Stop switching him to the centre and the right!

I think a lot of people forget just how terrible the first game of preseason usually is. Players always have a worse touch, heavy legs and a bit slower in the mind.
Yup. Most pre season games are the same.

Even still, when we do well in pre season we usually start the season shite.

It's natural to lack the cohesion, most of these players never had a game together. This is what the pre-season is for, get the understanding and chemistry between the squad.

James, Axel are looking good. Martial needs to find his feet in the new position. Happy with the work rate the team is putting up.

not going to rush to judgement on a few of the players performances, even though I am slightly worried. On the whole though, we've got some style to our play now, which is good. Interested to see how that carries over into the second half.

HT 0-0

Positives:

- High press
- James looks an exciting player
- Tuanzebe solid throughout
- Perth Glory haven’t even created a chance
- Both Young & Lingard have done well which is something I’ve hardly ever said.

Negative:

- Should be winning but still 0-0
- Final ball still lacking and struggling to break them down
- Lacking creativity big time
- Martial still looks so one dimensional
- Matic as slow as a week in jail
- Not that much impressed with Chong

Negatives 6 positives 5 :nervous:

Worry about us creatively....I do wonder where the goals are coming from this season....

Decent workout.

Looking forward to seeing the second half team. Particularly Wan Bissaka. Really hoping he proves me wrong as like many, I have concerns about how uncomfortable he looks on the ball. For all the lambasting of Ashley Young on here - he is better on the ball than Wan-Bissaka, comfortably so in my opinion. If AWB can improve in this area he’ll be a hell of a player.

Want to see what Pogba is looking like too, as he is of course, our most important player.

1st half was alright I think. Not convinced with Chong but players look fitter than previous tours, loads of pressing and aggression. Also really like Martial down the middle.

Hopefully second half team will have a bit more quality in final third.

I didn't like Martial at all in the middle. He wasn't checking in and holding up play and he wasn't making runs. He created a couple chances for himself when he got the ball in the 18 but he wasn't a classic #9 and wasn't working hard enough for me...

Definitely feel we should bring in another left footed leftback, promoted or brought. Cant have Shaw competing with turn-back-onto-right-foot-Young for the spot.

high press but still not doing it right, a better team would move around us with ease

shit movement in the final third as per usual, people standing, ball to feet, 90% going through the left and shit crosses

first game though, I guess it's more about fitness

So is Shaw coming on at LB? I heard he was on the end of a rough challenge in training, maybe Rojo will be tried out there again.

It's the first preseason match, so you can't read too much into it. Even moreso against a team not looking to get forwards.

Positives:
- James looks fine, linked up well with Young for the first 20 mins or so. Certainly not out of place
- Axel was the best player on the pitch, admittedly with little to do. I'm guessing will be the Smalling alternative
- We did close down high up the pitch

Less positive:
- Chong
- Our movement in the final third is just not good enough, and so far from our 'peers' that it's embarrassing. It looks like quite a mild evening too, and the players know they're only getting 45. Should expect more, am just not sure our coaching is up to it.
- The main playmaker this half was our left back, who is Ashley Young. We're not going to get far with that being the case
- I just don't see what we're trying to do. We have 3/4 quick technical players up front, but there's no pattern of movement to enable 1-2s. We can get the ball wide, but either don't cross it, or cross it high

Whats up with people and "they aint good enough right now" when it comes to youngsters, it never was about them being good enough or not, it was always about them being not worse than what we already have (thinking on older players than them on way higher wages).

I was reading the Busby book recently, and there's an apt quote in it - "the ball should never stop moving". We just seem to sit with the ball for a few seconds when we run out of ideas
We're progressing well, but when we hit their defensive wall we just turn around and recycle it back to our CBs.
We're far too slow in possession and have been for years.

We're never going to improve unless there's a serious improvement in our off the ball movement and quick passing, feels like I've been saying this for years

Watching that video package on the training session with the kids visiting really strikes the point that Gomes is tiny. He's the same size as those pre-teens. God damn.

Minumum you would expect from this is a comfortable win to provide some feelgood factor after the awful season we have just endured.
Not being able to score even one in that first half is not encouraging.
Second half Perth Glory likely to bring on their 15-year-olds so might not give us much in the way of pointers.
After one half against a workmanlike team it is all just more huff and puff and a bit duff.

Worry about us creatively....I do wonder where the goals are coming from this season....

It seems nobody at the club is wondering though, including Ole, our manager. It’s pre-season and we’ve not added to our attack at all, surely Daniels James is one for the future.
