Manchester United vs. Liverpool

This is the one. Just kick the feckers back to the dump. Unfortunately I´ve got a bad feeling bout this one:(. Anyway we´d still be 18 points ahead. feck you you miserable scouse twats

we are a better team and playing at home.

We will win it.

We've been the better team for the most part of 2 decades...yet they still bring their A game to OT almost every year. We've battered them with ease when they've picked up stupid red cards though. Sami Hyypia and Mascherano spring to mind. Come on Skrtel, do the sensible thing.

With nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain, it's a pretty simple little day out for them though.

Hopefully for once, quality will tell and a certain dutchman will inflict the necessary damage once again.

They were excellent in the game at Anfield. But for the Shelvey red card I think they'd have won.

That said, we're at OT and in good form. We should win.

With a few exceptions, our results against Liverpool during the PL years have reflected United's superiority, to be fair. It was very different during the '70s when Liverpool were the dominant side, but beat us only once at Anfield during that decade.

Regarding this one, I'm confident we'll win if we play anywhere near our best.

DDG
Rafael
Evans
Rio
Evra
Valencia
Carrick
Cleverley
Young
Van Persie
Hernandez

Assuming no Rooney, Nani or Anderson, the side almost picks itself.

Valencia in this form, yeah we can just give them the three points. The last thing we need to do is be wasteful against Liverpool.

Very true, but often these take just the one goal to separate the sides and can often be regardless of the true nature of what happens on the pitch. It's not a game I necessarily feel we'll definitely win, but as of now on paper, we should win.

They make it difficult against us, it's ridiculous how they don't play that way over 38 games rather than 2...you know the whole 'I'LL GIVE IT EVERYTHING' approach.

I anticipate this finishing 3-2 or 4-3 because:

1) That's the nature of our season
2) Suarez will be a handful and he's got a knack of scoring against us.

I've got a bad feeling about this to be honest, but then again with Liverpool I always expect them to give us hell.
Still, we're favourites for a reason and they won't get the same control of the midfield at Old Trafford as they got at Anfield. If we don't feck about with our line up that is.

De Gea
Rafael - Ferdinand - Evans - Evra
Kagawa - Cleverley - Carrick - Young
van Persie - Hernandez

Subs: Lindegaard, Vidic, Smalling, Welbeck, Giggs, Scholes, Nani (or Ando, whoever is fit)

EDIT: Valencia should probably be ahead of Nani and Ando for fitness reasons.

I wonder if there's ever been a match thread without someone saying "I've got a bad feeling about this one".

 Probably not. We're bound to stumble at some point and it could well be against Liverpool. I hope not. They'd just drag out their "We have the best XI (or VIII) in the PL"-threads again.

They always raise their game against us. The performance they gave against us at Anfield was their best this season and they should've won by 2 or 3.

The smalltime cnuts.

Rio
Evra

here is the team i personally would pick and i think would win no problem :D

Or i wouldnt be opposed to playing 4-4-2 throwing in Hernandez and Valencia instead of Welbeck and Kagawa

Yeah it is a good lineup, but I'm not really worried about Kagawa. It was only his 2nd (?) game back from injury and I'm sure he'll back to full match fitness soon. My only concern with that side would be Rio, not sure how he'd cope with an on-form Suarez.

Can we be completely confident of how any of our CBs would handle an in-form Suarez?

It might prove simpler to go into the match with a plan targeted at the source of his service from midfield.

Have I missed something and is Vidic injured / suspended?

Why is no-one including him in their starting XI? I'd put him in over Ro any day of the week!

I know what you mean Nick, but would Vidic not be a better option? He's not as fast as Suarez, obviously, but we might be better off with him over Rio.

Given a choice between the two, with a week to recover from the Cup and a run in the side, Vidic certainly has the edge on Rio. I suspect that the majority feel that they are pacing his return to the side after so long out, others maybe feel he wasn't on top form against West Ham. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing both Rio and Vidic necessarily.

If we can defend better higher up the pitch hopefully that will take the pressure off whoever we put at CB. And Rafael should revert to right back after his experiment in midfield.

Rio was immense at Anfield and always ups his game against Liverpool, which is why I'd give him the nod.

He has been out for a long time Vidic. I might be blinded by Rio and Evans' Performance v Wigan, but Evans is a certain starter for me given his form this season. Vidic still looks a tad rusty to me and I'd have Rio against Suarez as he is faster than Vidic, IMO.

Someone will get sent off in this one.

Vidic, if he starts, is a likely one. Especially up against Suarez.

Then again, I think with Liverpool being Liverpool they are going to go in rough on Van Persie to try and injure him. Carrager (CBA to learn his pointless name) is the sort who would do that.

I think that we will win this one lads, providing that Carrick and Clev start in midfield.

Personally, as Liverpool will pack the midfield and attempt to dominate possession, I would start with Welb$ as he is better defensively and at holding onto the ball than Jav, then we would have the ace from the bench too.

I disagree with your abbreviations but I'd say the same thing. Welbeck to start and Chicharito to come off the bench and go for the throat against the tired legs, doing what he does best.

This is always a strange fixture to predict, however there is an element of overestimation on Liverpool's part here. We're at Old Trafford and we nearly have our whole squad fully fit now.

I'll go with a 3-1 win.

I think you mean the 80s.

Code:
		1970s	1980s	1990s	2000s	2010s

[B]At Anfield[/B]
Liverpool Wins	7	1 4	4 1
Draws 2 5	2 1 1
Man Utd Wins 0 4 4 5 1

[B]At Old Trafford[/B]
Liverpool Wins 3 1 1	4 0
Draws 3 5	5 1 0
Man Utd Wins	2	4	4	5	3

[B]Total[/B]
Liverpool Wins	10	2	5	8	1
Draws 5	10	7	2	1
Man Utd Wins	2	8	8	10	4

I reckon they do overperform against us considering our overall superioity in league position. But they do not do it to anything like the extent we did in the 80s against them. That was really taking the piss.

If Suarez wasn't in good form, I wouldn't be the least bit concerned about this game.

Very true, with our habit of letting (almost) everyone score against us Suarez could be a real threat given his form.
If our defence are on top of their game we'll win this. If not we could see a lot of goals and it could go both ways.

I'm glad Jose Enrique's out of this. Always a beast whenever i see him. Whoever's on the right wing should have an easier job now

They're probably going to play Johnson on the left and Wisdom on the right then. Johnson has been quite good this season to be fair.

Thats true but it'll still mean that they miss Enrique. I'd like to think we'll get at Wisdom

Whoever we play should at the least have experience enough to work around him.

Wow, I had forgotten that United were so dominant against Liverpool in league matches in the 80s. Crazy numbers.

------------------------------------- de gea--------------------------

----rafael-------------------rio--------------j.Evans ----------evra--

----A.young -------------carrick-----cleverly--------------giggs----

--------------------------wellbeck----van Persie---------------------

I think 2-1 we will nick it. Rvp, wellbeck who is due a goal.

I'd have that team with Valencia for Giggs and Hernandez for Welbeck.

While Valencia is utter shite at the moment, he's a fit fecker who can run all day, Liverpool will be game raisers and play intense, wouldn't suit Giggs.

Rio/Vidic would be my choice...

the key to keeping Suarez quiet is our midfield. Keep the ball and keep it tight.

Carrick/Cleverley and Giggs coming in now and then should do that.

I expect Young on the right. Chcho and RVP up front.
