Manchester United vs. Liverpool

I wouldn't start Kagawa for this he's only just back and in all honesty hasn't been great in the past 2 games (not entirely his fault but still) id start with RvP and Hernandez.

De Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Valencia Carrick Cleverley Young
Hernandez RvP

This.

If Rooney, Ando and Nani are not about to make a shock return, this looks like the XI for me.

Stick with Valencia, despite his form, on the right. Go with Young on the left. I don't see much room for debate on this one, other than who's really fit and who's not.

Think Giggs will definitely start because of his experience, and he's in much better form than any of our wingers. Also one of the only people in our team who know how to actually cross.

Think there'll be a few goals involved in this. Suarez and RVP + both defences looking a bit shaky at the moment.

Perhaps, but hasn't Giggs been more effective coming on in the second half than playing a full 90? It seems to me he has.

I can see the case for dropping Valencia but the case for Giggs starting against Liverpool is a tougher sell. Whatever their faults may be, they're a very athletic side and I can't see Giggs tooling them early in the game.

Better to give Valencia a shot from the first whistle and see what adjustments need to be made before we bring on Giggs.

Just brrowing this from the away match in September:

So

Code:
[CENTER]Linde

Rafael Rio Evans Evra

Valencia Carrick Giggs Nani
Kagawa
RVP[/CENTER]

Is the addition of Cleverley to that midfield four enough by itself to sufficiently reverse what was a fixture where we lost the battle in the centre of the park? Would dominating Liverpool there be asking too much of Giggs physically?

Simply as wingers right Young edges it [when in form] IMO on account of his greater likelihood to chip in with a goal himself. Nani all the more so but this match may arrive just a bit too early.

Assuming Rooney and Anderson are not fit:

---------------De Gea----------------
Rafael----Rio---------Evans-------Evra
--------------Carrick------------------
-------Cleverley--------Giggs----------
Welbeck-------------------------Young
------------------RVP---------------

Considering Rodgers is so obsessed with ball possession, it might be a good time to bring out the midfield diamond again. That would allow for Persie, Cheech and Kagawa to play as well as 3 central midfielders.

Reckon Rooney will play. Fergie has done it with Valencia and Kagawa this season.

DDG
Rafa Rio Evans Evra
Carrick Cleverley
Young Rooney Giggs
RVP

Kagawa has only started on the bench twice(?) when he's been fit. Fergie loves to start him, and I don't think this game is going to be any different. Especially now that Rooney and Nani(?) are out, and Valencia is out of form.

This is the game where Kagawa convinces everyone that he's a star that should start every game possible. You read it here first.

---------------- DDG --------------
---- Rafael - Vidic - Evans - Evra ---
Valencia - Carrick - Cleverley - Young
------------- Kagawa --------------
--------------- RVP ----------------

Hernandez, Giggs and Welbeck to come on, depending on how the game goes.

Rooney definitely for it... we'll murder them if we play our normal football... I reckon' Evra will score one more... it is written in the stars...

Even if SAF is pulling one on us and Rooney's fit, I'm not sure he should start if he's going to take his usual 3-4 games to get back to form.

I have a feeling Welbeck will start this one. SAF always likes to play the local/British players for games like this.

We need some presence in centre midfield to deal with Gerrard. He and Suarez are clearly the only decent players they have.
Oh, and I would play Evans instead of Vidic. Vidic hasn't recaptured his form yet and would be a liability against a slippery player like Suarez.

Could be close with this, but too soon for Ando for me, so Young on for him, he will naturally drop wide left to provide width. Kags and Clev to push on and get close to PvP and Chich, with Carrick holding the fort.

Like it has been posted, BR likes his possessuion football, so we possibly need to go narrow to stop this. Also FFS, we need to apply pressure on the man with the fecking ball!!!!!

Approach the game with a fast tempo and our quality will be too much for them.

Their cup final

Expect every single one of their players to play like the Ghosts of Dalglish, Keegan and Venison

Would be better to beat them without anything dodgy going on.

Otherwise they'll hark back to the Masch, Gerrard and Shelvey sendings off!

How they can argue any of those I don't know.
They should have added Carragher to the list for the Nani savagery too.

I think to counter possession football is to spread the play i.e. use wingers. They will be forced to open up to help the fullbacks to defend and lose their shape in doing so. The only problem in this is that our wingers have to be on form.

Anderson was pictured in training the other day. I hope it won't be too soon for him, but if it is, then yes perhaps Young or even Giggs in that area.

Weird gut feeling that we will lose this one by a goal.

Team should be

De Gea
Rafael - Evans - Ferdinand - Evra
Young - Carrick - Cleverley - Giggs
van Persie - Hernandez

Valencia, Kagawa as well as Vidic also in contention for a place in the starting line up.

DDG
Rafael
Vidic/Rio
Evans
Evra
Valencia
Carrick
Cleverley
Young
Kagawa
van Persie

Prefer to have Giggs, Scholes and Hernandez used as impact players if needed.

Unless it's 'mind games' and Rooney turns up fit I expect our usual 'big game' team minus him with Hernandez in, and RVP playing the number 10 role.

De Gea, Rafael, Rio, Evans, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Cleverley, Young, RVP, Hernandez (or Rooney if Fergie has been telling porkies).

I see no reason to change what has been a winning formation unless we decide to include Vidic. Issue is, Hernandez from the bench in these games...usually works wonders. He's a nuisance, but if you expect him to start surely they can come up with a plan (they may not execute it) to stop him.

I just hope Lucas doesn't turn up, he sniffs out attacks like his life depends on it. If he plays well, the game becomes much tighter. If he doesn't turn up, it's a much more comfortable game.

I just hope Giggs' recent form doesn't warrant a start in central midfield as we've seen in the past. It's never worked against Liverpool. I wouldn't mind seeing him on the wing, but even so I'm liking this season's tried and tested big game formula.

Paddy Power have actually shortened the odds of United winning after Webb was appointed as ref and advertised it with some hilarious photoshopping.

Pack of wankers.

Rooney's been granted compassionate leave apparently after his sister-in-law's death, probably making his involvement even more unlikely now.

I always fancy us to smash this lot at Old Trafford.

I have some fecking horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach this year for some reason. I have no idea why because they are fecking shite...but this one is worrying me.

This campaign against him is more likely to push him to give decisions to Liverpool. Which is the point I guess.

Or he will just do his job to the best of his ability, which he usually does. I actually think he's pretty lenient with players a lot of the time. He's a top ref, and for me still the best around.

Play our normal game, and don't do anything stupid with Suarez, and we should come through this well.

And hope City manage to screw up v Arsenal. Who don't actually look good, they seem to be stacked with wingers who would prefer to be strikers.
And we think ew have problems with wingers!
