Manchester United vs Liverpool (Sun 4th August, 00:30 UK time)

Just hoping for no injuries.

That's the #1 thing of course.

Other than that I'd have liked to have seen Sancho not invisible, Mount placing his shots into the corner, Collyer showing he can carry the ball 3 metres, Casemiro staying on his feet, and Amass showing more composure on the ball like the last match. I'm not too fussed about the players most want sold, other than I don't think AWB should have been risked when we're looking to offload him in a couple of days.

Cant believe we still have people not wanting Ugarte and De ligt while watching this

If you're going to play high pressing high risk football you need to be

1. Good at keeping possession of the ball so you don't give the opposition endless chances to hit you in transition
2. Have a team of players who are physically and athletically capable of defending the transitions.

We are poor at keeping possession of the ball. And we have the oldest and slowest midfield and centre backs around.

It's a recipe for disaster.

How many of this team are our first choice eleven? Three, maybe four?

Meh, whenever we have a strong pre-season, its usually followed by a dumpster fire of a campaign. I'm trusting the omens

Just swap Sancho with Ugarte please. At least we get some industry

Just don't see it with Collyer don't see the talent there. He's young but I just don't see anything that makes me optimistic about him.

We're playing some nice stuff. I refuse to acknowledge the scoreboard.

A stance I am considering taking in to the new season.

Honestly, this game has gone the opposite of the majority of games last season. We have clearly been the better side, but are getting a bit unlucky. Last season we would get outperformed by basically every team but somehow scrape results. I prefer this.

Same old loopy match thread....

Anyway, we look decent at times, better than Vs arsenal.... but feck me have we lost that defensive stability from season 1. Hopefully when we sort out the defence it clicks.....
Ah I'm not bothered about the defence really considering who's playing back there, none are main starters when everyone is either fit or present after the euros/Copa America, so it's not surprising this makeshift back line is conceding goals.

The attack and midfield looks good with alot of potential starters in it which is good to see.

I agree. EtH doesnt seem to understand this - this formation is a bit suicidal and while friendlines can often make it seem like we are playing well, in a competitve game we will get destroyed.

This is not

Its the squad we have. However, if we get Ugarte in and De Ligt, Mazraoui then the squad will be much more suited to that style of football.

In fairness, not one of those defenders out there will start when there’s a full first team. Maybe 3 outfield players tonight will defo start in a starting 11.

Im liking the patterns of play

Next summer I hope we don't go overseasons and play rivals from PL. Stay home and play lower leagues. Pitches and rivalry is too much to get thru without injuries etc. Top4 is hard enough nevermind start off being handicapped by tours and injuries. Football decisions not money decisions.

Horrible comment. Collyer is having very possibly his best game on this tour and is one of the standout players
His best game yet yes, but not the standout player. Rashford and Amass have been better.

They really are, against Liverpool nonetheless. Despite what some posters would make you believe, they are having a standout game
Yes I switched on at 25th min expecting to see them struggle after reading this thread, but they were some of our most active players

Collyer was weakish for the goal, but that's an amazing assist by Salah as well. Collyer been very good otherwise.

Gonna call it a night, seen some impressive stuff. Up to City next week.

Don’t take our chances and concede easy chances. Just United in a nut shell. At least I can get to sleep before all the subs and game dies a death in second half. City next week will be rough but as long as we are ready for Fulham with hopefully a DM and CB signed otherwise early season may be a bit of a struggle.

This game shows a few things:

- AWB needs to go ASAP
- Amass is not ready
- Rashford is shit no matter how he looks in training
- Sancho and Rashford can't press
- As long as opponent bypass the front press, free run at goal

I am not sure what ETH wants to implement, I think this season will be exactly like last season. Rashford needs to be drop.

Goals are the most important thing in football though.
Shockingly to some, but they really are. Also, we didn't really outplay them. We've tried to play on the front foot, and have pressed nicely most of the time, which was very, very refreshing to watch. But we haven't been successful because our players are not quite good enough to execute that against Liverpool. Liverpool is beating us - fact

Some decent stuff played, without a proper striker and with a CB pairing that is what? 6th Choice or something? We've been the better side other than in the key aspects of fortune and finishing. They've mostly been playing on the break against a slow defensive unit. It's fine provided we have the CB fit and Ugarte / a.n.o. CDM by the season starting.

Poor first half from us, only 2 real chances created and some woeful passing in the final 3rd has been costly.

What is the point in having Lindelof on the pitch? He looks like he is scared of the ball.

Last 15 mins no one worth talking about.

Otherwise Mount and Rashford looked sharp, Sancho a complete waste of space (out of position or not), Amad not doing great.

Casemiro the best player in the field if running wasn’t a part of football. Collyer and Amass okay but obviously lack of experience.

AWB I still think is decent enough to fetch us a more respectable fee. Evans and Lindeflof shouldn’t be part of the conversation in terms of CBs and Onana makes me clench my arse even when he hasn’t even done anything wrong.

Sadly it's all about the money and expanding our fan base, which is fine but it comes at certain cost.
