Manchester United vs Leeds (Wed 12th July, 16:00 UK time)

Pretty happy to see Mejbri, Fernandez, Amad and Mainoo all getting starts in their preferred positions. And they all gave a good account of themselves. The only one I would loan out, perhaps, is Fernandez.

Mejbri to Dortmund for 15m...feck off.

He was sooo good at Dortmund though. It boggles the mind...
He really was. Pro sports is a strange arena, isn't it? Sancho declining... Smalling, who used to make all kinds of silly mistakes with us, becoming a powerhouse of a CB at Roma. Certainly 10x better than Maguire that we replaced him with :D

Well, don't jump to conclusions based on a pre-season friendly?

Mejbri did well but he is not anywhere ready for big boys games in EPL. I think Amad may be ready for very gentle introduction. I would keep him and give him chances to see how he does. Mainoo still needs a good loan spell at a good club. Mejbri and Fernandez are even less ready.

You simply don't know until you give them chances. It's as simple as that. And I think Mejbri 100% deserves the chance. Given our shite midfield options I'd promote Mainoo too, used sparingly of course. Amad deserves the be backup to Antony. With Fernandez I hope he can eventually take Malacia's place, that's probably most down to how he can make up for not having the pace a full back normally possesses.

Fair enough. Anything is possible, just sharing my take. I do hope our shite midfield options will greatly improve before the start of the season, though :) Mount is very promising and if we sign Amrabat, he should be an upgrade on current options, as well.

Iqbal and Savage looked supposedly ready last year ;)
Amad, Hannibal and Mainoo, we saw what they did in academy and lower ages. Iqbal and Savage never ever stood out. Iqbal has some ball skill (definitely) but slow as and too weak. Savage is one of the worst kids to ever get a United senior contract. Watched him many many times in academy.

Savage was really underwhelming. Amad, Hannibal and Mainoo were great.

Nah, I'd wager they get a large part of the MUTV revenue from people subscribing for the pre-season fixtures. Pre-match shows usually are free but the game itself you have to pay

Yesterday i watched the match from MUTV for free like the last years, I got curious and decided to check out why was free and found out that if you are outside the UK or Ireland you get to watch the pre-season matches for free.
Оnly if you are from England or Ireland you must pay to watch, which is very strange.

Did anybody spot Norwegian Thomas Silliknicus at the game today? Presumably he is a real fan too (like Jassim and Jim) and apparently his offer is still on the table…..

Who? Never heard of him. Doubt there are many (if any) individuals rich enough to buy the club here.

Really? If the matches are broadcast in a coumtry they would not be free for sure.

It's free in few countries, just sign in to ManUtd.com and watch the live game.

In India it's free on ManUtd.com, even last season it was free.

Damn. Thanks.

I know we need strengthening but there's something good about watching the youngsters - would make my day/year if we won something with kids again. There's so much more satisfaction in that.

Some observations;

- GK; Kovar played with authority
- Full backs; Fernandez; showed confidence and an eye for positioning going forward, not that much quality on the ball though. Williams looked rusty and disappointing. Wan-Bissaka sharp and aggressive defensively, not much on the offensive side.
- CBs; Martinez his usual sharp self defensively, but those incisive forward passes weren't there. Varane mostly solid, but slumped a bit towards the end of the half - got cleanly beaten in at least one key duel. Bennett and especially Fish looked safe, calm and solid in the face of intensive Leeds forward pressing.
- CM; I thought Mainoo was very impressive - poised, calm and with quality interventions both on and off the ball. Mount, hardly revolutionary but very good on the press and showed quality in several situations. A decidedly OK debut. Savage seemed to just drop off as a third CB and help out with simple things.
- No10; I thought Mejbri was great - ferocious on the press, and generally quality on the ball. Hansen-Aarøen too, but in a completely different way - unflappable, hard to get the ball off and strong in his distribution. If he continues to develop, he could become a really good ball control type of midfielder.
- Wide forwards: Forson just looked lost out there. Shoretire was underwhelming, as he always seems to be whenever I've watched him for the A squad. Amad, up and down, but obvious quality. Emeran - for those who've watched him more, is he really that good? goal and assist, and very nearly had a second assist too. Although he wasn't very frequently involved, he looked potentially lethal.
- Strikers; Sancho was absolutely miserable as a false 9, unsurprisingly - the qualities he has aren't the ones you need in that role, I think. Hugill; scored a goal and worked hard, but looks fairly limited.

Above all; love to see United doing these pre-season games in Norway. They sell out the biggest venue in the country in minutes when the tickets are put out, though the game occurs while most people are on holiday. TV commentators said downtown Oslo resembled a United festival on the day of the game. For context, the national team, with Haaland and Ødegaard, regularly struggle to fill the same venue even for important games and no Norwegian club team ever gets crowds anywhere near that. The cup final is really the only comparable, and I doubt even that sells out as quickly.
