Manchester United Vs Bayern Munich

2-0 Bayern I think. Could easily be worse but teams don't tend to get hammered at home in the UCL.

I would have saved Fletcher for this as I think possession rather than brute force is what we'll need in midfield. I hope Kagawa came off early today because Moyes plans to use him here.

De Gea

Rafael
Jones
Vidic
Buttner

Valencia
Carrick
Giggs
Kagawa
Welbeck

Rooney

So how big a loss on aggregate would you guys think is acceptable and how big a loss is too much? How big a loss, on aggregate, are you willing to take right now?

Edit: Maybe this should be a jinx thread :p

We're probably looking at 0-4 aggregate at the very least. If we score one goal it'll probably be a wonder strike from Rooney out of almost nowhere.

Bayern's midfield and defense were woeful today against Hoffenheim but I don't expect them to play that badly against us.

Pretty sure we will play three in midfield, especially with Evra out.

de Gea
Rafael Jones Vidic Buttner
Carrick Fellaini Giggs
Valencia Rooney Welbeck

Lindegaard; Ferdinand; Fletcher, Nani, Kagawa, Januzaj; Hernandez
2-0 United, 3-1 Bayern, through on away goals

I can dream.

feck it:

De Gea
Nani---Jones---Carrick---Buttner
Fellaini---Fletcher---Kagawa
Rooney
Hernandez---Welbeck
May as well go down in flames.

Whilst I don't see us starting like that, I can see us finishing like that.

Nani will be booed for not being Ronaldo and Moyes will be given a polite round of applause, because that's the United way and we're a classy bunch.

----P.Jones------------N.Vidic----------M.Carrick---------Buttner--

We draw 1-1

Formations don't matter, just a grab a goal and then park the fecking bus. As long as we don't lose we have got a chance to knick this in Germany.

We draw 1-1

Then get disqualified for fielding an ineligible player?

After seeing the team against Villa yesterday, I think Moyes might go with something like:

De Gea
Rafael - Ferdinand - Vidic - Buttner
Jones - Carrick
Valencia - Giggs - Welbeck
Rooney

Lindegaard - Fletcher - Fellaini - Young - Januzaj - Kagawa - Hernandez

I agree we have to play Rio, I just don't think we can successfully maintain a high line without conceding.

I think we're gonna concede goals regardless of tactics and players. Might as well play a bit risky, so that we too can score goals. But that's just my crazy amateur opinion :P

It would certainly be a more enjoyable game if we try to outscore them. Considering our depleted defense perhaps that is the only chance.

If Fergie was still managing, this would be hyped-up to be such a tasty tie:

Champions of England v Champions of Germany/Europe.

Please no Fellaini he'll get roasted against that quality. Might as well play with ten men

Welbeck anywhere other than through the middle will be a mistake IMO, doesn't provide enough of a threat in behind when coming from the left which is what he's best at.

We need Welbeck to do a job on the flanks to protect Buttner. We've got Rooney through the middle for that threat up front.

I'm worried about the defence tbh - Both Rio and Vidic have deteriorated massively over the past few months. We really need Jones in the centre.

It's ridiculous.

Normally I would be well up for such a big European tie even it was against a juggernaut of team like Bayern. But this time, I can't build much enthusiasm at all.

We will get taken to the cleaners and beyond with that line up. Jones will be run ragged like a headless chicked in midfield and Rio and Vidic will get done by pace time and time again.

Exactly.

We're 7.5 on Betfair to win this tie. This is the scale of Moyes' damage: Manchester United, champions of England, are 7.5 to win a game at home. I doubt it's ever been this high.

If there is any chance of beating them over the two legs, we have to win this one. More than any result, I hope the team plays without fear and makes us proud.

If we play well, and they play underpar, we have a chance.

It's football, 11 v 11. There have been much bigger shocks in the past., but Moysie will need to get the lineup bang on.

I really want us to do well in this game, stop them from scoring and get a couple to take over there, will give us a fighting chance of making the semi's.
Thats what I would like, but who I am I kidding, all I can see is a beating and a heavy one at that, it depresses me that I feel like this, but I dont see the point of building my hopes up for them to be knocked down and ground into the dirt. :(

We'll certainly need to be more on it than we were for the first 45seconds against City!

What's our worst defeat at Old Trafford in the Champions League?

Edit: Plus worst defeat at Old Trafford in Europe in general (including cup winners cup etc)?
