Manchester United Vs Bayern Munich

Really don't want to see Vidic in this game but we've got no option. He'll be sent off for hauling someone down clean through.

I guess it's time for this then?

Anyway I think we'll set up like this:

--Rafael---Jones--Vidic---Buttner
OhmWPXE.jpg

---------Fellaini--Giggs------------
--Valencia---Kagawa----Welbeck
------------Rooney------------

---------------- De Gea -----------------
Rafael ----- Vidic ----- Jones ----- Büttner
----------- Carrick --- Cleverley ----------
--- Januzaj ------ Rooney --- Kagawa -----
----------------- Welbeck ----------------

Subs: Lindergaard, Ferdinand, Fellaini, Valencia, Giggs, Nani, Hernandez

*We need energy down the middle, adding Giggs to the squad might stifle that.
*Rooney will be providing the progressive passes that Giggs would have provided, while Cleverley in the team to press and complement a less mobile partner in Carrick
*Welbeck to provide the movement upfront and strech Bayern defense.
*Kagawa to help improve our possession based ideology/provide penetrative passes, while Januzaj to give us an outlet to attack out wide(would have prefered Nani than Januzaj, but he has not been given an opportunity to perform).
* The defense the same versus villa, to show continuity, if Rafael is fit.
*Alteration to occur if Plan A is not working

I expect Moyes to start Valencia and maybe Giggs or Fellaini. Our gameplan would be to take up a conservative approach and as a result, end up in a defeat. Sort of worried about Giggs inclusion into the team. He may provide some good passes, but he would put a lot of stress in our team when off the ball. Nevertheless, with the formation above, I would say a well fought out 3-1 victory for United.

Team should be...

GK: DDG

RB: Jones
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Vidic
LB: Buttner

CM: Carrick
CM: Giggs
CM: Fellaini

RW: Kagawa
CF: Rooney
LW: Welbeck

Subs: Lindegaard, Fletcher, Young, Januzaj, Hernandez.... do we even have anyone else?

That's assuming Rafael and Valencia are injured as well as obviously RVP, Evans and Smalling

So, assuming that Rafael is injured and Jones has to play at RB, what do we think of Carrick at CB? Would you prefer him over Rio? I think I would.

-----------------De Gea---------------
Rafael------Jones--Vidic------Butner
Valencia--Carrick--Giggs--Welbeck
------------------Kagawa----------------
--------------Rooney-------------------

Just clench up and hope it's not too painful.

It's 2 our of rio, Carrick and Vidic. Personally I'd take the first two over Vidic, and have fellaini/giggs and fletcher in front. We can't afford to play the slow players who lack mobility but at center back we have to play at least one. Also part of the reason I wouldn't start fellaini, been shown up in every big game. He's too slow and not nimble footed enough so they'll just pass it around him.

I think on current form you can't leave Shinji out. I imagine we'll line up something like this;
De Gea
Rafa Vida Jones Buttner
Fellaini Carrick
Valencia Kagawa Welbeck
Rooney
As nice as it'd be to start Giggsy he'll be made to look an absolute fool. He was a major weakness in both CL finals against Guardiola teams, and we shouldn't make those mistakes again.

Hopefully we will go with something like this:

De Gea

Rafael Vidic Jones Buttner

Giggs Carrick Fellaini Welbeck

Kagawa

Rooney

Giggs to do a similar job as last season versus Madrid. Kagawa and Rooney to help the midfield too, while Welbeck to help Buttner. Defend well, try to hurt them on counter and hope that we can score from eventual corners.

I don't have any idea with what lineup Moyes will go, though if I was a betting man, I would bet that both Young and Valencia will start.

Kagawa behind Rooney is pretty similar to Kagawa behind Lewandowski. We have to go for it, and hope that we can surprise them on the counter.

De Gea
Valencia - Vidic - Jones - Rafael
Fletcher - Carrick - Fellaini
Kagawa Welbeck
Rooney

No way I'd play Buttner! Though above totally dependent on Rafael and Valencia fitness.

Think we will lose 1-2 or 1-3.

Valencia vs Ribery? He's been clueless at RB so far this season. Went there twice vs Everton and Spurs, we conceded from him switching off in both games.

0-4.

I'm an optimist.

so who would you play at left back? Assuming its not Buttner? Giggs? Jones?

It's going to be Buttner, obviously. Since he's been given multiple run outs to get match fitness/experience.

Anything other than a defeat would be seen as a very positive night so in that sense it's a free hit. Still fearing the worst though.

I expect Guardiola to field the team like this:

Neuer
Lahm - Martinez - Boateng - Alaba
Schweinsteiger - Kroos
Robben - Götze - Ribery
Müller

or like this

Neuer
Rafinha - Martinez - Boateng - Alaba
Lahm
Schweinsteiger - Kroos
Robben - Müller - Ribery

Dante is booked. Thiago injured, Mandzukic is in bad mood ;)
Müller, Alaba, Kroos, Neuer, Martinez and Boateng were totally rested today.

The only question is if he plays Lahm in midfield (then I do not see Götze as starter) or if he plays him as fullback.

.

Yeah, well...but we rested Valencia, Welbeck....erm Cleverley and Ferdinand.
And Carrick and Rooney didn't play full games.

With Evans and Smalling injured I don't know who else to use besides Buttner at LB.

De Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Buttner
Jones Carrick
Valencia Kagawa Welbeck
Rooney

Try to keep it 0-0 and then bring on Giggs with 20 minutes left and try to hit them on the counter.

No chance we're gonna beat them by parking the bus. To beat this Bayern team, you have to just go for it and hope for the best. They will score, no matter what. The question is: how many? We need to outscore them. I say we put out a relatively high defensive line, and hit them on the counter. Risky, but it must be done.

------------ DDG ----------
Rafael - Rio - Vidic - Büttner
------ Carrick - Giggs ------
Januzaj - Kagawa - Welbeck
---------- Rooney ---------

After 60 minutes:

- Valencia on for Januzaj
- Fellaini on for Giggs

They've won the bundesliga, the super cup and the club world cup this season already. They're in the German cup semis and the CL QFs. They are unbeaten in the league & CL and have only been beaten twice all season as far as I can make out - by Dortmund in the German Super Cup and Man City in the CL.

Apart from that, they are shit. I can only hope that St Anthony helps us find our mojo and turn these f*ckers over.

So Rafael and Valencia potential injuries?

That leaves us with something like:

De Gea

Jones Carrick Vidic Buttner

Fellaini Fletcher Giggs

Welbeck Rooney Kagawa
Not that any of us expect to win but this could be terribly painful.

A high defensive line with Ferdinand and Vidic? We would be massacred. Robben and Ribéry would have a field day running in behind them. Pairing Carrick and Giggs is also suicide against a team like this, we saw that in Rome and at Wembley.

Parking the bus, the airplane and whatever other vehicles we possess is the ONLY option. That's how vastly inferior teams always beat their superiors throughout history. Defend for their lives and try to nick goals on the break. That's our only chance. Going toe-to-toe with them would be ugly.

Going toe-to-toe with them would be ugly.

I don't want us to go toe-to-toe with them. I expect them to dominate possession, while we chase the ball. But when we do have the ball, then I want us to attack with all our power. Everytime.

We'll concede goals, but if we're a bit lucky, we'll score a couple as well. Hopefully more than them. If we sit back, then we're never gonna score. We're not good enough to counter from deep into our own half. We need to be fairly high up the pitch.

We have to go for the win at OT, and defend it in Munchen.

Playing Fellaini in this game will be pointless, Bayern's movement will take the absolute piss out of him. Giggs has to start this match.

5-1 Bayern I reckon, if we have Carrick and Vidic as centre halves possibly 6. If we lose 2/3 nil, that'd be a positive, then once Bayern take the second leg like complacent arseholes as they do, we can get that moral Arsenal knockout result, thus starting the revolution under Moyes.

Rio and Vidic no longer have the legs to keep a high line.
