That was in the opening 15 min. He's looked sharp since then.
deserved goal for them. Our shape at the back has being pretty poor along with midfield. also dissapointed the way Park keeps getting sucked in centrally, it was his man that got the cross in for the goal. Evra could have done better in attempting to block the cross, but he did have to deal with 2 men at his side.
FFS is he going to get the blame for every feck goal we give away , it is getting boring now and it was low and hard , nothing he could do
I'd say this match depends on Rooney.If he wakes up, we can win it.He's made many poor choices, very frustrating from a player of his ability
So many technically gifted players in the Spanish league, Bilbao have looked like Barcelona at times tonight.
Its the usual complaint that i have whenever Scholes or Carrick isnt in the team. Everythings far too frantic. No one able to put their foot on the ball to slow the game down. Literally every player doing everything at 100 miles an hour. They all need to slow down and think about what they're doing, as they're giving the ball away far too easily.
It's the way we play. I don't understand it either but there you go.

Next to Carrick he's fine in the middle, he clearly needs to be played in a position which doesn't require tremendous positional discipline at the moment. Fans need to be patient as he is a very gifted player.

If we come back from Spain with Llorente, Martinez and Muniain I think that's our team sorted for many years.

On the balance of play nobody can argue that Bilbao didn't deserve a goal. They are playing their way through us with ease. Our players are being so effortlessly deceived by 1-2s and triangles that at times its a little humbling to watch and yet we are making them look better than they are by stupid mistakes e.g. Jones letting Llorente run off him for the equaliser. Poor. Rooney may have scored but his passing has been all over the place too tonight. Park has been largely anonymous...its not great. Nani and Carrick should be introduced promptly and if we still cant manage to look cohesive Ferdinand should come on to help us deal with the waves of Athletic attacks that will inevitably keep coming in the second half. 1-1 is NOT the result to take to the San Mames.

I don't see all this 'we've been poor' stuff at all. Against Ajax we were poor. Here we are playing ok but are being outplayed by a side that is very good with the ball but not great defensively. There have been some dodgy moments, and I'd say Evra has been very poor and responsible for many of them. Aside from that I don't think we've been too bad. Some people need to learn to respect the opposition.
And people are still surprised that we're out of the CL

I heard good things about Bilbao before the game but after seeing them they look superb and so relaxed but great on the ball.

They've been much the better team, just like Norwich, just like Spurs. I don't know if Fergie's trying some new tactic out or something but it's not working. We look so vulnerable it's unbelievable.
Just watch when they're in our half, they're like a poor man's Barcelona, and that's no insult - it's one, two, and occasionally three touch football, pass and move.
He's useless in CM. We are playing with no CM again and deserved that goal they were outplaying us. Btw rooney was the worst player on the pitch althoughscoring a goal, that must be something new

Indeed. In the Premier League, we can get away with it as other teams are often quilty of the same thing. But Bilbao have far more intelligent, technical players than Sunderland or Wigan.
Playing 4-4-2 in European competition is always a big risk. Doing it without Carrick is close to suicide.
Jones has been diabolical to be fair.

i think i've been watching a different game lads. Jones apart form being at fault for the goal has done nothing wrong. Irony.
We're missing Carrick in a very big way.
We really should be delving into the Spanish teams for their midfield talents this summer.
Especially when the other one is a 38 year old Giggs.
There was a passage of play where with his first touch he was away towards the oppositions goal and he tried to set up Hernandez. It was a class touch.
He's had more of an impact on this game than Young who has gone missing.
Why don't we play high tempo attacking football anymore?

We played good in December with Jones-Carrick, but then again, Carrick is easy to play with for every player. We miss him.
