Manchester United vs. Athletic Bilbao

What a fecking laugh. There's a lot of things said about Rafael, but you can't say he isn't passionate. He busts a gut up and down the pith, gets pissed off if he does something wrong, wins headers against people a lot bugger than him, he's the only player that I know will tackle hard and take the man and the ball. The lad gives his all every time he plays and has been very good recently, so you can feck off with this shite.

He wasn't giving his all at 2-1 the other night or busting a gut. He was happy to watch De Gea actually try to stop a goal. That's blindingly obvious to even the stupider members of society.

disagree with this

he just horribly misjudged what was happening, what de gea was doing and wasn't aware of where the bilbao player was

can't believe you could suggest he was being essentially lazy

He just misjudged what was happening? That in itself is an act of laziness. It's his job to be aware of what is going on around him. Instead he watched De Gea scramble to make a save and then thought 'I'll just leave it to him'.

I love Rafael but tbh if you see your keeper parry a shot your first instinct should be to clear the ball as soon as bloody possible.

yes and he made a mistake in his judgement

I wouldnt say he wasnt putting the effort in

he simply made a mistake of judgement

very much like Phil Jones who decided to challenge Jonny Evans in the air about 5 seconds previously

The difference being Phil Jones tried to prevent a goal. Rafael didn't because he thought he could just let De Gea do it for him. Despite the fact he was lying on the ground. By all means defend Rafael as a player but we can't dress up what he did last night as anything other than laziness. Had he tried to defend and made a hash of it then your comparison to Jones would be apt.

Don't be daft. It isn't at all laziness, if anything its a huge lack of concentration probably thinking about the next move already.

Huge cock up obviously, but he won't need telling. Players make mistakes all the time, as do managers.

A half arsed stroll towards a ball dropping in the six yard box isn't laziness? Okay then.

yep, as soon as he realized Muniain was behind him he could only hope De Gea saved his bacon. Which he couldnt and was left a fool.

Not if you believe there is no danger before the keeper picks up the ball, no? Its a mistake, lack of concentration, unawareness but not in any shape or form laziness.

Not being in position was lazy. It's his job to be aware of what danger there is. He wasn't doing it because he couldn't be arsed concentrating or running seemingly. The keeper was lying on the ground. It's actually more of a crime to be that stupid.
