Manchester United vs AS Roma (Pre-season Friendly)

Lazy was perhaps the completely wrong word. I'm tired.
What I mean is, a couple of times I've just got the sense he gets agitated or stroppy if things don't go his way which affects his performance. I remember the City game 2 seasons ago where we lost 2-1 at home and Rafa had a stinker. He gave up in a way... got way out of position, made bad tackles, stopped running at all sometimes. That's complacency - possibly a bad example because he had a bad game but still.

Please don't suggest Jones or especially Smalling as a back up right back. They just can't. Imagine playing Smalling as a wing back in Louis' 3-5-2 formation
Rafael is an all-action type of player, we have to deal that with his strengths, will come mistakes and moments of madness, that's only natural. He has matured greatly though.

In regards to Jones and Smalling, that's why I said probably not this season as they will be forced to play in the middle 3 and will also see more time due to Rio and Vidic leaving. I am not expecting either of them to ever be considered by van Gaal as an option on the right as a wingback.

I'm guessing Van Gaal has either finished his presser, said something controversial or is having an emphasis moment currently.

We really should be looking into bringing in Cuadrado now. Would be absolutely perfect in that RWB spot.

Van Gaal doesn't beat around the bush does he? Brutally honest.

Is this a joke? If so, haha?

Its not a joke. Rafael is a sicknote. You know this. Varela is 21 this season. Its not crazy to suggest LVG could promote him to the first team proper. I think he's a better defender than Rafael, his potential is huge. Keep laughing.

A lot to ask given that he's basically out of position there, and will be playing against a better team.

What does anyone think of the idea of dropping one of the 3 CBs from the Galaxy game (maybe Smalling) for Shaw, and then starting James in the left wingback slot? That would surely be a better way of getting people in positions that actually suit them.

Hello brightonian! I see your posts in the mains and you seem like you know your stuff. I don't post much in the newbies as its a jungle in there but really like posting here now it's open to all. I actually think Shaw could do that job but I think he would be better off settling in without anymore expectarions/pressure being put on him if you get me, as in I'd like to see him have an 8/10 at wing back rather than shift him around again for Roma. He's going to be a wing/left back essentially so why bother? James was deadly when he came on v galaxy and I'd certainly like to see more of him too.

Im really going to miss the top form evra, hes cool as fook and really 'got' united. Easily the best since Irwin. Will shaw get to that level if he's moved around a lot? Paddy in his prime would have relished the wb role. I'm a tiny bit drunk....hopefully Shaw has a Herrera in the next game. On a side note, Vidal totally isn't happening. Why louis whyyyyyy??

Zaha shouldn't start either. The missing the optional training just says no to me, although if he starts and does well... that's management lads. He's brainless like a nani or less talented Ronald but I think he's talented too. How talented? No idea, but I don't doubt he could be a good player with his raw attributes. What an eejit missing training, learn something man! This could easily be his last season here. Wasted talent is the worst.

I get the feel that this might be LvG giving Cleverly the full 90 mins to prove that he have what it takes to stay at Man Utd.

A few of the lads should be playing for their future now. Cleverley, chicha, mop head (when he's back), nani and young. Also if it's true Zaha missed optional training he's a fool to himself. For all his faults I'd assume clevs was there?

I'd look at getting some of the younger lads into the 352 system see how they fit in. That said I trust LVG and it's great to have some positivity surrounding united again. The bloke has an aura that could be very successful here.

I want to see Wilson more this season I have a feeling given time he will develop into a top top player.

Yeah, I have that exact feeling, too...maybe because LvG announced it in his presser...

Total guess from watching the clips of the two teams in training on MUTV but it looked like Blackett and James in for Smalling and Shaw, and then Cleverley in for Fletch. In the second half team I think Lingard and Zaha were in bibs.

Rafael's injury means it looks like someone will be getting 45 minutes in an unfamiliar right wing back role. You can't imagine it'd suit Smalling much but not sure who else would get a go there. Michael Keane perhaps.

In that system it's more like being a winger than a fullback, so probably Valencia again. Shame he didn't bring Varela or Janko.

What a ridiculous opinion. Cut our losses on Rafael? It's a little groin strain. Reel it in, mate.

Stab in the dark time:

de Gea, Valencia, Jones, Evans, Blackett, Shaw, Cleverley, Herrera, Mata, Young, Rooney.

Lindegaard, James, Smalling, Fletcher, M Keane, Blackett, Cleverley, Lingard, Kagawa, Welbeck, Hernandez.

Does anyone know the payout times for this? Or if someone be saving the game and uploading it later?

90 minute audition for Cleverley in the sweltering heat. He's going to get shown up.

Time to cut our losses man. I want Varela to be given a chance.

Yeah time to cut our losses on big money signing Rafael. We might be able to get half the fee back for him if we're lucky, what with him being 24 and one of the best right backs in the league.

I am already counting down the hours before kick off. I can't wait!!! I missed this feeling last season.

Love how the match day section tells you what time the game is, even taking your location into account (6am in Melbourne).

Would be funny if Cleverley turns into some sort of Xavi-type under LVG haha. Would vindicate the choice of getting his name on the back of my United shirt a few years ago!
